It’s also funny because Claudia has quite a broad Australian accent, which is stereotypically associated with sounding less smart in Australia (of course it isn’t the case, but it is the stereotype).
One of the things these videos has helped me understand is the FEET thing with dancers, lol. The first time I met my cousin, who did ballet for years, she stayed with us and kept commenting on how gorgeous my feet were and how she wanted them. I was so confused at the time but it makes sense now, lol.
I took one semester of ballet in high school. All the teacher talked about was my feet...how she wanted my toes. In any other context, this would have been weird.
@@NoThankUBeQuiet it's only weird because you've been conditioned to think it's weird. No one thinks it's weird to say someone has beautiful eyes or hair. Feet are just a body part, it's not weird to have opinions on how they look.
Bought pointe shoes from wish once to make a dream catcher for my younger cousin who wanted to be a ballerina. It worked out fairly well I think. They were never used for anything other than decoration though. Kinda regretting not using one of my dead pairs, oh well you live you learn. Much love ❤️
I remember when Claudia dropped this I laughed so hard watching her cheekiness. She's so fun and awesome. I would love to see you do a fitting with her and I need to somehow fit *Dodgy point shoes* into my vocab somehow. 😂
I actually sew my pointe shoe ribbons in a loop! I use the elastic kind and do it myself of course so it fits, but it really works for me! It makes quick changes in and out of pointe shoes SO EASY and no more lump on the side from the knot!!
I'm 17 and thinking of trying out ballet. Can I still learn? What do you think Josephine? Anyone else got any opinions on this thought? Edit: saw the replies, I'm gonna look for ballet classes in my area! Edit 2: would it be a problem that I'm asthmatic and quickly loose breath?
To me it is never ever to late to start ballet. I think you should go for it! And the opportunities for dancers who start when they are older are growing. Good luck, and have fun!!
I was so glad to see your edit!! I started at 26 and have people in my open class in their 50s. We all get treated equally and with respect and the classes are serious. I love it!! So glad I found ballet and I wish you luck and enjoyment in the future!
We love how our aussie accents are adored around the world, they just sound daggy to us. Please do come over and say g'day, we'd love to have you here! Thanks for having heaps of great content!
Love Claudia!! That would be a GREAT COLLABORATION!! The Center Stage red shoes OR The Red Shoes (1948 classic The Red Shoes with Moira Shearer if you're a little bit older 40's or you just grew up on really old movies and no one else did!😄)
Honestly, confession time, I bought wish pointe shoes for a wreath for my niece’s bedroom door. But wouldn’t recommend that people actually use these for dancing.
When will the DVB guides for purchase be released for the 2024 park season? We're planning a February trip and would like to purchase one when it's released 😊
I’m with Josephine on this, too scared to look at the potential for injury in these shoes! I’m like “Noooo! You’re going to hurt yourselves!” When I was young there were few places that carried anything that could be called a “range” of pointe shoes, by which I don’t just mean shoe sizes but width, vamps, brands available and any other metrics. If I have taken anything away from these fitting videos it is that the right shoe is a crucial component of the kit!
I watched the Nutcracker movie over the weekend and thought "I want to see Josephine react to the Misty Copeland dance scene... especially bc they do a bunch of close ups on her shoes 😂😂"
Have you ever seen the movie "The Red Shoes"? It is a movie about a ballerina. It is very old, late 40's early 50's. Just a warning it is very depressing.
This is random and not related to the video, I have a hard time pulling out of my pointe shoes and I also have a lot of pain on pointe, do you have any tips that could maybe help with that?
Love this Josephine 🥰 And yes Claudia Dean is also super sweet just like you 🥰 I love Kathryn Morgan too, Mackenzie, and others beautiful ballets dancer 😊🙌 Love from Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴
Ommggg listen yestraday i gkt my first poimt shoees aaaaaaaaaa its amazying and i just realized i am actually doing it without even touching something omggggggg after like 6 7 years plus covid aaaaa i am so excited
Could you do a video explaining why professionals break in their shoes by *literally* breaking them and why the average student doesn't? And what does that do for each group? Because I've always been confused why, if breaking shortens the lifespan, they do it at all? Unless they're just miserably uncomfortable to break in naturally? I left my ballet studio the season after I got cleared to go en pointe and never got to try it. I'd love to try adult ballet now.
From what I caught on some of her videos, professional ballet dancers get free point shoes, so they break them to be very confortable in them and danse their best, even if they die fast because they don't have to pay for it. A student has to pay for shoes so breaking them would cost too much money, and when you're a student you don't dance for as long as the pros so you can bare a little discomfort
BUT, Can you distinguish between, the Australian (Ozzie) and the New Zealand (Kiwi) accent, wish I could have popped in when I was in NY, in July 2019, but I could only find Capezio, and it was just around the corner, from where I was staying 'Broadway on 56 and Bradway, a block over from McD? I am a UK 5 NZ 7 but take a wide 4 triple x? hope this helps in sizing Australia is same as NZ
A meet up with you and Claudia Dean would be 😎. ❤️ Center Stage movie I was in grad school. I have been following her for years and she has own her UA-cam channel.
I feel like those wish shoes don't even have an actual shank in them, like, they are 100% dead out of the package, there's like, nothing there, it's about as stiff as maybe a street shoe ballet flat that has a more durable sole.
Hi, if I'm 13 and have never done ballet before, should I start now because if I leave it any later, I will miss my opportunity, but my parents don't want me to do it, they say I'll break my ankle I want to hear your opinion. Love the video's keep it up
OMG those shoes are everywhere. EVERYWHERE! They're on Amazon and eBay and they have what looks like tar as the shank. Save people, Josephine!! Tell them to run away! I've seen people selling them for as much as $50. It's ridiculous and potentially dangerous. If anyone can do it, you can Superhero Josephine!!
Artisanship shared between shoemaker and dancer: As far as I can see, you haven't interviewed a(n) (active) shoemaker! I assume "the trade" doesn't allow for that. BUT, perhaps it is possible to have a retired shoemaker and one of his retired customers having a conservation about how they, "built together" "their shoe"? I would love to see that! I wish you peaceful Easter holidays!
When she said "she has really amazing toes for feet", I was like "oh, yeah they are nice" thinking that was a thing ballet dancers say. Then she laughed at having said it wrong, and I 😳😳😳
Hi josephine! I have been watching and enjoying your videos for a while now and i was wondering if there is anything you can do to help me. I am a dancer in a 3rd world country with no pointe shoe stores or fitters whatsoever.(we do have classes for students that are able to get pointe shoes from other countries). I have a relative that can buy me the shoes but i have no idea what brand or model i should get. If there are anyy tips you can give me or any way to help i would really appreciate it. (And i can't access the website for virtual fittings from my country)
Hi Josephine you shoud react to the vidoes . Teen ballerina's daily routin. And part 2. And YAGP Pre-Competitive Winners From Around the Globe - "Baby Ballerinas"
Josephine, would you consider a collab with Dancing with Mackenzie on fitting her for shoes?? She recently did a video on breaking in her new shoes and talked about finding a new brand, but is buying on her own, trying different ones. I think you'd do an amazing job of finding her the perfect shoe!
I swear- they are still stunning even though those shoes are from wish and basically un-danceable in- but listen. If this amazing woman makes a series, she need to react to the Rybka Twins doing the wish shoes thing! 😭
I actually bought a couple pairs online and they're not bad but not clearly proper ones... And I'm tempted to get fitted for real ones but I know they're expensive and I do this as a hobby but I have bad self-esteem and feel like getting good at this for myself will help. The Pointe Shop, should I get real pointe shoes? ❤️ Also I would totally sew mine as a single ribbon to wrap around cause I suck at tying them 😂😅
As an Australian I don't think I've ever heard someone say they thought our accent sounds smart! That's really sweet
Same! I always thought it made people think we sounded stupid! 😂
same gurl!!
Yes
Like people think we say naw
It’s also funny because Claudia has quite a broad Australian accent, which is stereotypically associated with sounding less smart in Australia (of course it isn’t the case, but it is the stereotype).
@@polishedperidot no you just make me want to be you and is it true that you call everyone “Mate”?
I love how Josephine makes having a foot crush not seem like a creepy fetish!
I just love how this amazing woman finds a way to make everything funny. Even a wish pointe shoe you could potentially sprain your ankles in.
Same!
One of the things these videos has helped me understand is the FEET thing with dancers, lol. The first time I met my cousin, who did ballet for years, she stayed with us and kept commenting on how gorgeous my feet were and how she wanted them. I was so confused at the time but it makes sense now, lol.
Yah they need to keep it to themselves and their dancing people. It's just odd.
I took one semester of ballet in high school. All the teacher talked about was my feet...how she wanted my toes. In any other context, this would have been weird.
@@NoThankUBeQuiet It’s weird to other people, but for dancers it’s completely normal lol
@@NoThankUBeQuiet it's only weird because you've been conditioned to think it's weird. No one thinks it's weird to say someone has beautiful eyes or hair. Feet are just a body part, it's not weird to have opinions on how they look.
@@NoThankUBeQuiet that's kinda rude
This woman can compliment feet and not make it look/sound weird
Bought pointe shoes from wish once to make a dream catcher for my younger cousin who wanted to be a ballerina. It worked out fairly well I think. They were never used for anything other than decoration though. Kinda regretting not using one of my dead pairs, oh well you live you learn. Much love ❤️
I feel like an actual pair might be too heavy for a dreamcatcher though
And a bit smelly….
&2:17 pointe shoe QUEEN does angry Korean grandma face and it’s ADORABLE
We need a Claudia and josephine collab
I remember when Claudia dropped this I laughed so hard watching her cheekiness. She's so fun and awesome. I would love to see you do a fitting with her and I need to somehow fit *Dodgy point shoes* into my vocab somehow. 😂
Just got my first pair of pointe shoes today - it was amazing. And thanks to your videos I was very knowledgeable 😁
I actually sew my pointe shoe ribbons in a loop! I use the elastic kind and do it myself of course so it fits, but it really works for me! It makes quick changes in and out of pointe shoes SO EASY and no more lump on the side from the knot!!
I saw another UA-camr dancer demonstrating how she did her shoes, and she did the same thing, also using an elastic type ribbon as well.
Anyone else holding their breath throughout this whole vid?? And internally screaming “Please don’t injure yourselves!!!!” 😖😖😖😂
Yup xD
Yes please we need Josephine and Claudia collab!!!!!
I love Claudia Dean. Her channel is so wonderful and funny. She is a great dancer.
I absolutely love Claudia’s channel and her brand Claudia dean collections so much, this is such a great video 💗
What a combo!! these two are the best xxx
I'm also Australian and I love how much Americans love our accent and how we all probably find theirs funny to.🇦🇺🇺🇸
if I unwrapped shoes and they were ready sewn I would be like "how DARE YOU!!"
I just rewatched the Amazon haul from her this morning! Love to see a reaction from that video too!
Claudia is super sweet, all her staff (and her sister Simona) are wonderful.
You can start ballet at any age.
Do it! I started at 21 and have been doing it for 11 years now. It's not easy but it's so exciting and fun!
Ofc! Some start in late 20s or even older, you are plenty young to still try ballet! Just make sure you use slippers not pointe shoes.
"Aged yourself" because red pointe shoes make you think of "Centre Stage" ? Think of those of us who associate them with Moira Shearer!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My thoughts exactly!!!
Exactly!!
I love Claudia Dean videos. In fact watching her reaction videos is how I came across your videos in my reccommendeds.
We love how our aussie accents are adored around the world, they just sound daggy to us. Please do come over and say g'day, we'd love to have you here! Thanks for having heaps of great content!
I saw Center Stage in the theater…when I was in law school. And I just rewatched it in January. Still awesome.
All of my friends that do ballet just spent a day with Claudia dean!! I wish I was there!
Josephine is the only person that can say “ her feet are so beautiful” and I am not worried!
I am getting on pointe soon and am going to my PT I am so excited
Love this and Claudia Dean! I’m not big into UA-cam so the fact that I follow you both is saying something. Lol
Yeah! I love both of you. It would be amazing to see you both together!
Yep, I am girl crushing on Claudia. I love her videos.
Love Claudia!! That would be a GREAT COLLABORATION!! The Center Stage red shoes OR The Red Shoes (1948 classic The Red Shoes with Moira Shearer if you're a little bit older 40's or you just grew up on really old movies and no one else did!😄)
Really showing my age - my immediate thought was Moira Shearer followed by "What's Centre Stage?"
The only explanation I can think of for those looped ribbons is that the shoes were meant for decoration. Which I hope to God is true. XD
Yass I would love this collaboration 😍
Honestly, confession time, I bought wish pointe shoes for a wreath for my niece’s bedroom door. But wouldn’t recommend that people actually use these for dancing.
I love that I had watched the original video and now I’m viewing the review of the video. My life is ballet basically. 😝
when you did mouth breathing 5:37 have you ever done that while dancing?
Yesss come downunder and collab with Claudia dean!!!
When will the DVB guides for purchase be released for the 2024 park season? We're planning a February trip and would like to purchase one when it's released 😊
OH MY GOD!! Two of my favourite channels collide!!
The claudia dean video straight up scared me when i saw it - especially where the girl was wearing them without being able to fit her heel in it 😱
This video was basically Josephine advertising she wants to go on a foot-date with Claudia and I'm all for it!
I’m with Josephine on this, too scared to look at the potential for injury in these shoes! I’m like “Noooo! 2:21 i use a toepad that looks like that and not that bad just kinda too thick that makes my feet feel tight in the shoes
