Nike's Secret Shoe Factory In China

  • The last 30 years have seen tremendous changes in the production of sports shoes. When the costs of production began to rise in the United States and Europe, and workers organized and exercised collective bargaining power, sports shoe companies relocated their factories or sought subcontractors in Asia where wages were much lower and where systematic repression of labor movements promised a 'docile' workforce. Companies like Nike and Reebok began to subcontract to medium and small-scale companies in East Asia, particularly China and South Korea.
China is now the biggest shoe producing country in the world, producing over one-third of the world's top brand-name sports shoes. In many ways it is an ideal setting for the sports shoe multinationals and their subcontractors. Massive unemployment, low wages, the lack of enforcement of labour laws and standards, repression of independent union organising

No wonder UA shoes are almost the same as authentic nike sneakers.. it’s the same people making it and they get better working conditions in a sweatshop..

Nike switched from having factories in China making shoes. To a subcontractor making them for Nike. This is to create a firewall/barrier where Nike says, we don't know, we use a subcontractor, talk to them.☮️

Americans would want $25 an hour to make shoes. If shoes were made in USA they'd be $500 retail for most Jordan's & sb dunks especially. Alot of Americans do make shoes, they charge minimum $1000. It's alot of work.

A lot of quality boots are made in the US they average retail starting at 300 to 1000 dollars those are small boot companies
Imagine Nike with their inflated prices we would be paying 800 for some rubber foam and synthetic glued shoes
They will go out of business

This is the main reason i choose to buy high quality reps.
I pay less with almost the same quality.
Since Nike never pay the taxes.
So .. why should i pay for their non taxed products.

Well... with all respect to the points made regarding the labor issues in Chinese factories, I reckon that's why we get good quality products at a good price. Nobody will be happy if Nike now decides to address the issue and sort them out completely but at the same time up the prices double to what they currently sell. Imagine Nike Tanjun becomes $100? Not nice.
