Ian & Matt, I am absolutely addicted to your channel. Fair and balanced reviews that really benefit the average golfer. I currently play a Ping G400 driver and love it. Miss hits always fade to even a slice. The Ping G410 with the adjustable weight sounds right for me. I wish you guys were in the USA. I would be down at your shop today. Thanks for all the things you do for golf it is greatly appreciated.
Ian all this proves is that Matt is so good that even when he tries to hit high/low toe or high/low heel or high/low mid or bottom of club, he can't do it like Billy Hull who really hits nowhere near the sweet spot. Yeah you really needed to bring in my very dear friend Billy for this test. But still for the rest of the golfing world this prove help is built into new tech for the masses. Thanks guys.
72 YO 85 mph speed Went to Mav Max this year with stock riptide shaft have never hit it better index is down over 2 strokes. Game is more fun from the fairway.Sucker is long too. Cheers from NorCal
I have 3 drivers, and the Ping G400 sft is the most forgiving for me. The Callaway Epic goes 10 meters further and the Cobra F9 sits inbetween. I also had and sold a M1, M4 and ST180. I love experimenting and doing my own head to heads using launch monitors, but the G400 is currently in the match bag..
Love the channel fellas, arguably some of best reviews I've seen. Keep up the great work! I tested out the the G410+, Mavrik Max, TM SIM, Mizuno ST200, TS2 & TS3 at a fitting y'day. The Mavrik and G410 came wildly out om top with very similar numbers offering me a staggering 55 yards more than my old driver (a RAM I was given last year when starting out). The rest I tested really did not compare, ts2 and ts3 were disappointingly inconsitent for me forgiveness-wise. SIM good but not as much distance as the aforementioned - its look personally less desirable for me. Decision came down to looks/feel in the end. It may have been the lighting indoors but I actually preferred the matt finsish on the G410. Helped me to align better than the gloss top of the mavrik max (and the others) My natural shot shape had been a fade, however with weight in neutral position on ping I hit straight or slight draws. Beautiful to see. Also went from regular to stiff shaft increasing my club head speed from 85mph to 101mph with no loss in accuracy. More to throw at it still which i'll do as I get confident. Review content really helped me get the most out of my fitting session, so once again thanks amd kudos for a great channel. Any vids on gapping between driver and 5 iron appreciated (I use AP1 irons now) Also review of phantom x putter range..?
Fitted for a driver last month & came out with the Cobra SZ (not the extreme) on the 55g Helium/light regular shaft. I was shocked as I was moving up from my old Cleveland XL on a senior shaft & anticipated needing the extra forgiveness of the Cobra Extreme. Since fitting my swing speed has risen from 85mph to 93mph and i've flipped the weights to 14g from & 2g rear shouldn't work from me but i'm now hitting 230yds+ down the fairway (was sub 200yds) & a very happy bunny. They say a bad workman blames his tools, but being fit properly does put the right tool in your hand 👌
My brother and I both got fit last year, he with Ian, and myself with John. Both at the time hovered around 10-11. I'm currently a mid- 6, and brother is a high 7.. One thing that certainly helped as well, is I went to the Cobra SZ, and just like the test played out, I'm hitting WAY more fairways than last year. All in all, highly recommend the gang at TXG
Loved the vid. Don’t hear as much about the mav max as some of the other drivers but held up excellent. Would have loved to seen the exs 220 in this test.
Changed to a GBB Epic 9.0 a few seasons ago... Having lie/loft adjustability at the hozel + ability to use sliding weights has been a huge game changer for my driving
@@thelampman6582 Take a lesson with a pro that has a good simulator program. They'll break your swing down immediately, and help you add 40 or 50 yards on that.
Hi Matt and Ian, love your channel, very in-depth and informative. keep it up guys!!! I play off a 4 handicap but always had issues with my driver, just couldn't get the driver in the air, but since changing to the Mavrik Max driver with a stiff Fugikura Tour spec shaft, im a happy chappy again. I'm getting good distance and more importantly I'm back to my accurate self again. i think the point is, even if you are a low handicap player it doesn't necessarily mean you must go for a low spinning driver. After watching the driver comparison i visited the local Proshop for a fitting it was quite evident that Mavrik Max driver was the one for me. Thanks guys and keep up the good work.
Great insight into how a fitting works, and always unbiased, result based opinions, don't know how you guys only have 88k subscribed, one of the best channels for showing the technical aspects of golf
Same three drivers I tried and I play off 6 and hit a good driver but still got the best numbers from the mavrik max. Absolute beast the mavrik as long as anything I have hit but this thing does not miss fairways. I was going in for the sim or std mavrik but I could not look past the max
Mizuno ST200 is also very forgiving. I think it has a tad shorter shaft to help in forgiveness, although you may lose a bit in distance. Great stuff guys - thanks!
Will either of you be working the new Mississauga location? I'm hoping to do a putter fitting when it opens. Now I want to do a driver fitting. You guys are great.
These 3 drivers are exactly im torn against. Im happy I found this video. I get a couple mis hits on the heel. I do not want to spend $400 on a driver just for it to break. I need a bigger face with durability and forgiveness. If I break one more driver, I'll never put a driver in the bag again. Quick question, I feel like I'm putting the tee at the proper height but I'm getting alot of launch with a 10.5 degree loft which I feel like I'm losing yardage. Should I switch to a 9 degree?
Excellent work, boys. I’ve been playing a PING G410 Plus driver for a while now and love it. I’m a decent(ish) driver of the ball but it just gives me so much confidence that a half decent strike will return a good result.
Great job guys. Tried them all and fitted the best with the Cobra. I hit more fairways now and I’m very happy. Thanks for all your info. It really helps us weekend golfers find what we need.
Another great video guys. So informative and easy to understand the way you break things down into specifics without getting so overly technical that it becomes overwhelming. I have almost as much fun watching your videos as I do going out and playing... Almost. Great job gents.
I think you should show the Taylormade R1. I know it’s an older driver but it had so many adjustments it would be good to see your expertise in tuning it. For average golfers it can get very overwhelming with all the adjustability of the R1.
Asking Mattronome to do some 'inconsistent' swings is hilarious. Knowing his swing so well he can fudge his way in to the variety of launches that a standard human does when trying to be consistent!
I demo's the SZX. Could not get over the sound. It sounded high and hollow like a beer can. Really weird because I really liked the sound of the F9 and it doesn't sound that bad here either.
Got fitted.. moved from hazardous black handcrafted ( lost a bit of club head speeed, getting old) to Ventus blue in my 917 then tried ventus in 410+.....WOW the most forgiving combo I’ve ever hit
the more videos from TXG i watch the more I need to get myself to TO at some point for a full bag fitting. I am convinced that it would shave multiple strokes off my game.
I had the SZ Xtreme for a round, couldn't get on with it - shaft no good for me I'd say. I've now got the Ping G410 plus and love it. So much better for me. I struggle with my shot fading away, if I put the weight into the Draw setting, does that mean it may straighten me out? - I'm right handed. Swing around 105mph, distance doesn't correlate to swing and ball speed. Thanks.
Ian can you show how adding weight in the back to show how the moi changes on a driver if possible I am enjoying this Top 3 forgiving drivers but I want to see you add weight pin the M6 driver or other drivers that can interchange weight in the back side?
I was fit into the SZ extreme last week. Should have it next week....super excited. I generally dislike hitting driver, but the extreme performed very well for me.
I think it's important to mention once in awhile that higher handicap players shouldn't get down on themselves, as Drivers have grown [??] from a 43" length to a whopping 45 3/4" . Of course i'm giving it away that i'm a Old Duffer that's still Lov'n the Game even though everything has gotten slower & shorter in my golf game. I really didn't get why Cobra & Callaway got away from their adjustability in their club heads. Newer golfer hasn't a clue when you talk about using Lead Powder, Corks, Swing weighting & other terms. I find that on these newer drivers i can handle 44 1/2 " length pretty well [adj. w/ new weights or Lead & Cork for a swing weight of D-2 to D-3. Just a Old Hackers 2 cents worth. I Just Love what you guys are doing & to Matt [yeah !!! I'm a "Lefty" also.].. Keep doing what you're doing with these Great Videos guys!
With club adjustability, shaft and ball options, I think these high MOI drivers can fit anyone regardless of handicap. I never seen Matt hit the ball better than when he's was getting for for the G410+ in one of last year's videos.
i read a comment below, and agree. can you run a get fitted by Ian contest? I would fly up from California in a heart beat if I won. Ian, there are no other fitters like you. None of the fitters I have interviewed have more that 10% of your knowlege. They all want me to suggest solutions.
Ian and Mat I guess this is for me since lockdown and earlier I changed shaft clubs different degree of could not find my confidence with driver I am relying a lot on my 3 wood and power hybrid 19 degree, let's see if I can get any benefits
The Cobra was interesting. The earlier Cobras used to do best when impact was above the center line. I assume this was because of a higher CG location, either because of design/material limitations or to produce lower spin rates. As a long term Cobra driver user, the shift would be very confusing.
Ian. I hit the low heel a lot but I don't slice - it is a slight pull but weak (I used the foot spray on the driver on my Skytrak this week and I hit 5 consecutive balls in the EXACT same spot in the low heel, with different tee heights and distance I stood from the ball - it was funny because it looked like I hit one shot but the marks were right on top of one another with all 5). My question isn't about fixing my swing - I know I need to get the hit off the low heel. But, if I am going to hit it there, does it still make sense for me to put the weight in my Ping G410 Plus in the heel, even though I don't slice it? You mentioned putting most of the weight where I am going to hit it and I definitely heel it, but Matty was fading all his heel shots so I wasn't sure if you moved the weight into the heel because of the strike location OR because it was a fade/slice. Thanks and this was extremely helpful.
How would you compare the titleist ts2 to those included in this. As someone who has the ability to hit a high cut off the toe I thought that the squarer face may be helpful but curious on how it compares to those included.
For a lefty who tends to hit draw/hooks with a 88-92 swing speed and wants a fairway finder, which of these three drivers would you recommend and which shaft?
Awesome review. I would love to see Matt hit my Ping G 410 SFT version driver. Would love to hear what you guys think of that version since I own one. Seems very forgiving to me. Hope you guys are having an awesome weekend. Joe
Hello I have now the g400 lst and am struggling of the tee strike it left and right and also center fairway but not consistent. Tomorrow have fitting session. What would you advice? I guess ping g410+ have hcp 8.4 swingspeed 100 mph
If i cheat properly I can shoot around 100-105. What drivers would you recommend for me at my high handicap? Also, if I select a driver am I really selecting the head only? I plan on being fitted for the club shaft and grip, correct? Is that how I purchase a driver at a fitting shop?
So I accidentally cracked my old driver taking it out of my bag(dropped it). I never hit driver but this year I want to be able to hit driver so I’m going to finally get lessons. Would you suggest getting lessons 1st or buying a new driver first? I have a very old one from my original Wilson full set I bought when I first started golfing that I could use for lessons.
I think it would be very helpfull to test some of the drivers with someone that has a swing speed around 90 MPH. I think that is the majority of amatures swing speed.
Love the comment at 2:40 from you Ian about these drivers are not just for people struggling, to many consider them "game improvement" and wont consider them cause of their ego. I would have defo gone with the Maverick Max just to make drawing the ball easier if i didnt spin the crap out of it so the sub zero ended up a better fit for me. If the SIM Max is good enough for DJ it's bloody good enough for anyone else lol. Great video!!!
Do you guys often find yourselves adding aftermarket weights or lead tape to driver heads? I noticed that Rickie Fowler is still gaming an F9 with two strips of lead tape on it and wondered how common that is.
yes lead tape to every single driver or 3 wood. 1 cap. 1st off i play 44" so i have to add a bit of weight. then i use it to dial in direction. not always needed for direction but definitely for weight. i used to use hot melt but ive had some issues with coming loose eventually and today heads it is not smart to heat up head...most heads anyway with composites....multi material and pieces..
Cheers boys. I've asked this one before....what do you recommend for weight position if you're an early extender with inside out path but strike it consistently in the heel?!
I have a high swing speed and often a high ball flight. When I connect, I carry 300+ but I find that I often miss with a large slice. When I go to correct it I hook it. So only about 40% of the time I can get it down the fairway. What do you recommend for a lower priced option?
Maybe it was just from being indoors but the sound of all of those drivers at impact was so hard on my ears I wouldn’t be able to hit any of them. I’m not talking about how loud they were but rather the tone. I’d love to hear them under the same conditions compared to a Taylormade SIM or Mizuno ST200.
Hands down the most informative golf channel!!! Ian why no SIM MAX in the challenge? I bought that based on your review, and the fact that you also game SIM.
@@clubchampionmedia I am a 18 handicap, hit all over the face.. MAX was not longest but the straightest for sure. In my mind that is forgiveness, when you hit it bad but the ball is in the fairway, live to play another shot!
I buy packs of face stickers to use on the range. You could bring some of those to your fitting to help with shaft selection. Just make sure to validate with the stickers off bc you might get some wonky spin readings with the stickers on.
Cracking video...I'm going to check my strike with my Rogue (which I'm struggling with) & then try some of these out. 👍👍👍probably edging towards the G410 if it suits my eye
Ian: do you think you could put some different swings on the ball, make it more inconsistent Matt: yeah sure Me: (screams internally because I cant put a good swing on the ball but matt can purposely miss hit drivers)
15:10 is exactly how I'm hitting it right now. I'm losing a ton of distance with that type of strike and my ball is not in the fairway with usually some sort of punch shot out. Any suggestions?
Ian, would you say there is a direct relation between swing speed/ball speed and total carry in normal conditions?. Let's say if your swing speed is 105 it's expected your carry distance will be 260-275?
Hey guys! Wanted to come up your way, but COVID interfered. Is there anyone you can recommend near Houston TX that might offer something similar? Really appreciate your videos as an 8 HCP trying to get to scratch!
I haven’t seen that MyGolfSpy has published MOI numbers yet this year, but from your experience, which Ping driver have you found more forgiving: G400 Max or G410 Plus. Great vids!
I have a major problem work hitting off the toe. Way out on the toe. Set up center and hit on the toe. Set up with the shaft and hit on the toe. They go straight around 7/10. The bad ones go right. I know I'm losing distance from it. Total distance is around 250-265. Using a 16 m2 with 65g stiff shaft. Club head speed is 105-108 and head 10.5 and set on 12.5. That's giving me a closed face to hit it straight and I have a low ball flight. On 12.5 it looks like a normal flight for anybody else. By the way... I'm left handed but play right handed. Any suggestions? You guys put out some amazing information. I watch every video. Thanks!!
I had a similar issue a few months ago. I'm a 4 hdcp but short game is my strength - I hit the long clubs all over the place. Also a lefty playing righty. You're likely standing up on it or pulling out to the left with your shoulder or hip. Some things to try: 1. Hit a few balls on the range with your eyes closed. Pay attention to your hips through the swing. 2. Take some half swings with the ball far back in your stance and your hips very closed. Adjust until you're hitting duck hooks. Then go back to trying a normal swing. 3. Try keeping your hands higher/closer to a single plane. Sometimes my toe strikes happen because my hands are lower at impact than they were at address and this can give you the dreaded low toe scuffball. 4. Tee in the ground just in front and to the right of the ball. Try to nick the tee with the toe of the club right after impact. Good luck - I know it's maddening.
Anyone else think that the only way Matty can really model mis-hits like us mortals is to first consume 4 pints or so ? To keep it fair, Ian can have a sippy cup of something from the old country while running the GC Quad...
Which one performs best off the crown? :) BTW, the larger head has the opposite impact on my psyche. I swung the G400 Max 10mph slower than the regular.
Have no idea how TXG is not bigger and have more subscribers. Best golf channel out there. 👍🔥

I'm convinced that getting fit by Ian will take 10+ strokes off a high handicappers game.
That’s why I want to get to Toronto after Covid
Based on my round today, I can drop 6-8 shots a round by simply hitting the driver straight(ish) and I play consistently off 10

Ahhhh yes, the 290 yard swipey heel cut... I'm sure very common out on the links ... :'D
Great video guys.Keep em coming. Need a Ian new iron gapping session!
Great video! I appreciate the review of bad shots and mishits.
Matt's 900rpm with the Speedzone is my classic miss. So good to see someone on UA-cam hit my miss.
Matt you are a great manipulator of the golf ball as I struggle with a terrible slice it looks like cobra might be the way to go thanks...
It would be interesting to see the forgiveness and distance levels of the G400 Max compared to the Speedzone Xtreme.
Can you do a video talking about moving mass behind strike zones vs moving mass to encourage a shot shape like club makes advertise.
Given the results from MyGolfSpy I'm surprised that you didn't include the TaylorMade SIM Max D in this comparison.
Please try ben hogan icon irons!!!! Would love to hear your opinions.
video coming this week
Thanks guys. In a saturated market you're the best.
Do you have any advise on shaft weight etc for someone who doesn’t create a lot of club head speed due to have a previously broken back.
Nice one again! I still play my Cobra F9 with HZRDUS Smoke 6.0 and love it! Maverik seems to be a beast as well! :)
I tried all the latest £400 drivers on trackman at my local range but found I hit my 10 year old Wilson Deep Red 2 further. I don’t get it.
The g410 is a great club. I'm finally getting coached on my swing and can't wait to see what this club does with a proper swing vs what I used to have
Great video guys. I’ll be looking to by a new driver soon. Ping 410 is at the top of my list.
Awesome video. Just what I needed. Thanks!
I have a high swing speed and often a high ball flight. When I connect, I carry 300+ but I find that I often miss with a large slice. When I go to correct it I hook it. So only about 40% of the time I can get it down the fairway. What do you recommend for a lower priced option?
Great video guys, so much info.
I bought that based on your review, and the fact that you also game SIM.
sim max is great, just wouldn't put it in quite the forgiveness category of these three
@@clubchampionmedia I am a 18 handicap, hit all over the face.. MAX was not longest but the straightest for sure. In my mind that is forgiveness, when you hit it bad but the ball is in the fairway, live to play another shot!
Club Pro uses Trackman, apart from foot spray any hints regarding where the ball strikes the face as I can’t access GC Quad fitting. Great Vid 👍👍👍
Ian: do you think you could put some different swings on the ball, make it more inconsistent
Matt: yeah sure
Me: (screams internally because I cant put a good swing on the ball but matt can purposely miss hit drivers)
And purposely “miss hit” drives that end up in the middle of the fairway... 😂😂😂
Which one is best for lateral dispersion ie getting it in the fairways for inconsistent hitters.
Two questions:
Any thoughts on the Krank F11X?
How about the matching fairway woods to these drivers for high handicappers that are improving?
I haven’t seen that MyGolfSpy has published MOI numbers yet this year, but from your experience, which Ping driver have you found more forgiving: G400 Max or G410 Plus. Great vids!
Foot spray is a great (cheap) alternative to GC Quad for strike point
Some things to try:
Do you think most peoples bad shots are a reflection of club face v path creating huge curvature on the ball over mistrikes all over the face
Sim max?
Which one performs best off the crown? :) BTW, the larger head has the opposite impact on my psyche. I swung the G400 Max 10mph slower than the regular.
Hi lads, booked onto my first demo day next week. Any tips for getting the most out of it? Don't necessarily want to be forced into buying clubs
Great video guys. If u guys ever need real life heel striking statistics “put me in coach” 😂
Do you think Pxg 0811 XF gen 2 would
be in this conversation?
I have a negative angle of attack (2/3% working flattening) are any of these more suited/less spinny in that scenario?
spin profile of these 3 is pretty similar, it will depend on your strike pattern
I need a new driver and would love a lesson and fitment from yourself. I live in Glasgow is this possible?
