Glad you added the Taylormade mini driver. That club is a perfect driver for a ton of high handicap golfers. Personally I game the Ping G410 because it’s the most stable driver I’ve ever swung. It allows me to feel confident on the tee box.
I am sticking with my Taylormade M-1 Driver, I may buy the Callaway Flash in a couple of years. $500+ for a single golf club of any type is just to much.
BEST video you have ever made, bro! Directed at 99.9% of your audience; golfers who are more like Mark... and maybe even a higher handicapper. We don’t want magic; we just want a driver that gives us the best shot at scoring our best. Being a Ping driver owner for quite a while, (Ping 25), I am looking to buy a new driver, knowing my trusty Ping is still a great choice. My biggest fear is spending $500 on a driver that is worse than my current Ping, but is a driver that I just can’t hit consistently. My carry is generally around 240 yards, with a sub 92 mph swing speed. Your video gave us lots of great options. I feel confident I could choose any of the top 3, and be quite happy. Before your video, I was coin flipping between G400 Max & G410. I still feel either choice will be great. But hmmmm... I really enjoyed hitting the Titleist 915 series. Having owned DCI irons, I always thought of leaving Ping, and coming back home to Titleist! Maybe it is time!
Always entertaining and enjoyable to watch James. I've just been fitted for Epic Flash and found more fairways with it than thePing and M6. Also felt better overall and looked the best. But really there's bugger all difference between them....so you're doing well building a career out of comparing them!! 😂
Hi James, I’ve not watched whole vid yet, but wanted to say that being money conscious I recently bought a used (but in excellent condition) Cobra King F7 from a chappie on Facebook. Got a regular and stiff shaft and spare weights (extra 12g and 6.5g) giving me loads of set up options. I’ve currently got it set regular shaft (95 mph swing speed), 10.5 degree draw setting and 12g in back and heel ports with 6.5g in front. Bomb balls !! Cured slice and now sometimes hit a slight draw... very forgiving driver, but people should get proper fitting. I tested one at American Golf store before looking to buy. It snook ahead of Ping G410 in draw setting, for my swing. But price did it for me. £100 bargain!! Back to the vid .....
I'll list my top 5 forgiving drivers before watching as James usually asks... 1) Ping G410 (NOT LST) 2) Titleist TS2 3) Taylormade M6 4) Callaway Epic Flash (NOT SUB ZERO) 5) Mizuno ST190
@@JamesRobinsonGolf Did I get it right? Still watching your video! lol! As for my golf....I've had some amazing rounds lately and 2 very, very forgettable ones. We finished 4th in another scramble on Monday....mostly because I was so mentally not in my game....sigh. I feel very stuck between my old swing and the changes we've worked on sometimes. Other days it's effortless and I feel like I could bust through that 5hcp barrier I've been grinding toward. I'm a 6.8 right now. On the days I feel stuck in the old I can feel myself hanging back, not really releasing my hips or getting my weight forward enough so that I have room for a good full finish. I notice it the most with my long irons. I guess it's progress that i can tell what I'm doing on my bad days right? I've taken a break from golf since the tournament on Monday to finish prepping for a Triathlon I'm competing in this Saturday. Then it's back to my first love/obsession! I'll be ready to start grinding again on Monday. lol. I'd love to catch up some time soon. I'd appreciate some feedback on what you see in my swing now and what I should be focusing on next.....not that I'm not still working on the main points we've already talked about.....because I am. I'm beginning to actually believe I can get to a 5hcp in the next 6 months and to a 2-3hcp in the next 12 months. I want to grind toward that goal (intelligently) and see where the journey takes me! I LOVE/HATE this game..... :0)
I have the Mizuno ST 190 with a Tensei Orange shaft, which is supposed to allow lower spin for longer distances. I ordered this online after hitting it in a golf shop, but researched the shaft options before deciding. I've been extremely happy with the club so far. In fact, my regular playing partners have said that I need to move back to the men's tees from the senior tees. I'm 68 so that's a great thing to hear. I guess that the club is doing what I wanted.
Surprisingly, For me, the TS3 was more forgiving and consistent than the TS2 and epic flash when I got fitted. I was caught by surprise when that happened, but I’m very happy with the TS3 after playing a few rounds with it
Hi James, my most forgiving Driver is the Ping G410 Plus set to a draw setting. It is fitted with a three wood shaft and on a good day I regularly hit it 250-260 yards. Driving I find is all about confidence and if you play a driver which gives you this, stick with it. Sorry for the delay in replying to this video, but the weather here is PANTS, namely pouring with 🌧.
I had to comment on the video as a whole now that I've watched it... James! What a fantastic video! I am so impressed with how thorough you were in your explanation of the technology behind each club and your reasoning for your selections. Unsurprisingly, I particularly appreciated your Titleist segment! It's the best explanation of what makes the TS Project special that I've seen to date. It is THE reason I went with a TS3 (ball speed across the face) instead of the M3. I hope this video gets huge viewership numbers because I sincerely believe that it could help a lot of people with their Driver choice for 2019. Well done James. Really, really, well done! 👏👏👏👏👏
I use the TS2 driver, as a 50+ player, it really helped me with my score per round. I'm able to concentrate more on my short game and not having to worry about hitting the fairway.
Hi James what about the the Cleveland high launcher driver,,I use the 2018 model and for me it's the best driver I've ever used I'm 62 my AVERAGE drive is around 220 meters I playing off 15, I had a 77 off the stick Wednesday par 71
I think the new cobra S9 should have been in the top five but then that is my opinion and you know what they say about opinions? Thank you for yours. Love watching your videos please keep it up. Many thanks.
Great video for a high handicapper just coming back to golf James. I'm going to head down to the local golf store & try out some of the drivers above and see what happens. Keep up the good work. Really informative mate.
Love the videos. But some cheaper brands would be nice. I know most people will want the Taylormades and Ping driver ect. But brands like Benross, cobra and Wilson that are slightly cheaper would be cool to see you review them.
Bought the M5 d-type few weeks ago. It’s definitely changed my mad slice to more straight or draw hits. I’m confident I can start shaping shots within the next year
I’m using the Callaway Epic Flash and getting great results. I’ve tried moving the weight around, but really don’t see much difference between in the middle or at either end.
Howdy James thanks for the vid. As a high handicapper this really interests me. Did you look into the Srixon Z585, Wilson D7, or new Exotics driver? I hear these are ultra forgiving & straight as an arrow with large faces (which also really help)! Thanks again
Maybe I missed it but hard number/graph comparison chart would have been a nice visual to back you up. Not having tried some of these I do find your opinion valid as it includes a couple of drivers not from the big 3 (or 4)! Its easy for other testers (like golf digest magazine) to pick 1 from each mfr and call them all #1. I guess they rely on advertising $$$ coming in so it's hard for them to be biased! Then again in my opinion, shaft selection plays a large part of the forgiveness equation as well so any of these could outperform the other given the shaft is better matched to the tester. That said, thank you for your honest review!
Great video! I've started playing one year ago so this kind of content is pure gold for me. How about the Cobra F9? Why it is not in the list? Thanks again mate, greetings from Italy!
After testing many drivers (and shafts - really important to test different shafts and shaft weights and also if adjusting length to adjust weights to maintain swingweights), went with the ts3. Did compare ts3 and ts2 but the ts3 came out better in terms of consistency. Did not try the cobra though but did try the others. Previously had a ping g30, the ts3 is so so much better.
I've been playing 60 Years (Yeah I'm old).. I'm looking to pick up a new driver and hence I found your site. I picked up a used 915 a year or so ago and I was shocked at how forgiving it was. I love it. Maybe not the best distance as some others but we're only talking a couple of yards and with my swing speed that's not a major factor. Your site is the best and I especially love your reviews with your midcapper wing man. You' re a great team. . My nephew is a teaching pro and he recommended the TS2 but what does that young whippersnapper know ? Thanks for what you do.
Like you said all subjective! So my top 5 are: 1) TS3, a real revelation to me and I wish I had got it sooner. 2) G410, I’m a Ping fan BUT don’t get on with the woods but my son bombs this! 3) M6, always done well with TM but a new driver every 5 minutes🙄 4) Cobra F9, if I hadn’t mullered the TS3, this would have been in my bag 5) Epic Flash, Callaway drivers have always been easy to hit this is no exception.
I feel like writing a comment even though I have nothing to say but everyone else seems to want to add their opinion so here’s my 2 cents “if you don’t like what’s been chosen, make your own videos”! Love your work JR
Personally, I would have replaced the TS2 in #1 place with the PXG GEN2 0811 XF. I was amazed at how forgiving it was and has even replaced my PING G400 MAX which I thought would be in my bag forever!
I am just going back and watching all your old videos. Such a job well done. I hit every single driver out there for 2019. I ended up buying the Cobra F9 Tour version because it feels so effortless to hit. My opinion on forgiveness: 1) Ping 410 2) Mizuno 3) Titleist T2 4) Epic Flash (it has a weird rotation that the ball seems to spin off to one side at the end of the flight unlike a draw/fade) 5) Taylor Made M6 6) the cobra F9 is actually my 6th but it just feels so good to hit. Great distance. The other drivers feel like giant balloons at the end of a stick.
I agree not in my entire golf life would I think I’d have a Titleist driver in my bag! I got fit and I’m finding fairways and hitting shorter clubs into greens!
Just for grins I am going to try out the Ping G 410 Plus to see how I get on with that one this afternoon. My fitters made it happen. Now I will see which I like better. The M 6 or Ping g 410 plus. I do like the adjustments better on the Ping. Easier to see and work with. But will the performance be as good as the M6 ? I will know shortly as tee time is soon.
Hi James Enjoy your videos man. Help i stopped playing golf for 10 years now. I am 53 and would like to start playing again.i played of a high handicap 19-22 last. What clubs and irons do you recommend . Thank you Kobus from south africa
Drivers are very personal choice. I play the standard epic but like many people I really struggle to control a fade (ok, it is more like a slice). As a result I have come to dislike the look of the Epic for the simple reason in standard setting it sits slightly open. That makes me think it will go right. I think I will investigate the draw drivers
Just wonderful, I have been researching "how to apply golf handicap" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Tonayden Senadelyn Remedy - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my m8 got cool results with it.
Very very shocked you don't have the cobra f9 speedback in with these after all the good review's it had but like you said it's your opinion. So were would you put the cobra with these
Hey, James. Been watching your vids for a while and love the way you present the info. I'm having "spin" issues with my driver. I'm currently hitting a 913D3 with a Bassara 50 stiff shaft and am getting numbers in the 3300 plus range with a distance in the 240 range. (On the GC2). I've recently hit both the ST 190 and the TS2 and have hit all the other top 5 without any revelational difference. Is there a shaft/head combination I should focus on or am I doomed? I feel I've lost about 30 yards over the last couple years and it's frustrating the hell out of me!
I've got the Ping G410 SFT. I was semi fitted for it during a demo day. Works super for me. At that time, there were no reviews of the SFT version on UA-cam. As far as I know, there still isn't any. I just wonder what the performance difference there is between this SFT model and a regular G410 with the weight set towards the heal. Could be an interesting test.
I've been playing for 40 years. Of all the drivers I have hit the ST190 is forgiving, I've hit some shockers and still got them out there off toe, heel, top and bottom. I have been very surprised on off centre hits. Also it's the straightest driver I have known and the longest. Last night hit 8 iron to our 483yard 3rd and I've never been that close to the green before, it's a par 4 so long drive a must.
@@rayfreeman2305 No I'm not. I'm an old golfer who owns a wedge and a putter. My driver swingspeed is 96mph. I get out driven by 20 handicappers on a daily basis. But it still stands, the ST190 is very forgiving.
Then I must have interpreted your first post incorrectly and I am sorry. It sounded like your second shot into a 483 yard hole was with an 8 iron so if you hit your driver that far I expected you to be a low handicapper. I also am an old golfer turning 80 next month but I have no idea what my swing speed is but I do know that it has improved this year. Hope you have fun with the game.@@thehairygolfer
@@rayfreeman2305 2 years ago I was off 5. Since then working a 6 day week and no practice I'm upto 7.6 and trying to rectify now. The 483 is downwind and if you get over a rise it's then downhill to the green. I usually hit 4 iron 2nd, sometimes a 5. I have changed from a driver I hit too high and too spinny to the 190 which is flatter and lower spin so I'm running out more. And I'm hitting it straighter. It doesn't look impressive from the tee but when you get to the ball the first thought is - I haven't been this far for 15 years. Thanks for the replies Ray, good to chat.
Great video James and happy to see we agree that Titleist is the most forgiving... And James if you thought the driver was good the 3 wood is a straight bomber off the fairway.. ☄🏌️♂️
Great video owned and sold 915d2, 917d2, m2, m3 still using my 910d2 105mph speed using x flex shaft finds middle of club every time average driver 230yards and the design not far from ts2 lol.
Great video James. I have a question that I hope someone can help with. I have a natural draw when hitting my irons but when it comes to my driver it always goes right/fade/slice. The only difference I make is my stance. Could it be the driver which is an ancient Calloway biggest big bertha? I know I really need to update my clubs.
Cobra pretty forgiving borrowed my old mans and stroked one right out the toe it went miles. Personally I couldn’t get on or see any improvement from my Ping G5 with any of these drivers or pxg/honma but I’m still waiting to try the Mizuno and hope that will be the one 👌
I NEED THE OFFSET TYPE OF DRIVER AS I HAVE THE COBRA M SPEED AT THE MOMENT BUT EVEN THOUGH I STRIKE IT WELL MOST TIMES IT DOES NOT GO NEARLY AS FAR AS I WOULD LIKE. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE ON WHAT TYPE OF DRIVER WOULD SUIT ME BEST? I AM THINKING OF EITHER THE PING SF TEC OR THE D VERSION TAYLORMADE.ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT.
I would say that these drivers, because the amt of backspin, would grant forgiveness but are not for everyone. I tried these and was getting over 3300 rpm which was not favorable for my swing and I am a mid to high handicap. Key is to get fitted.
I bought the ts2 and it is very forgiving, but I'm finding I'm not getting the distance I was from the rogue driver. I'm demoing an f9 and last night had my 2 best drives of the year with cobra. Effortless speed. I'm going to do a head to head this weekend on course
King Cobra F9, TM M6, Ping G410, Mizuno st190, epic flash

Cobra F9 with the D turned up. Test and explain that.

The epic flash definitely is the best looking driver out of the 5.
slicerjohn 189 have you seen the head cover? Looks like a ladies head cover. Very ugly.
@@connordennison3381 yes I would change the head cover mate.
TS2, M6, F9, ST190 and G410.
I got 4/5. Choose the F9 over the Epic Flash.
Great review, I also tried many drivers before I chose the T2
What happened to the f9 cobra. How do the pxg and honma driver fair in these tests. Cheers Andy
What software do u use for your simulator ? I’m always curious cuz ur driver only has 1 yard roll sometimes 🤷🏽♂️
Hi James would love to see you try the cobra speak zone driver with your mid handicap tester and get his opinion on it
James have u ever tested the 2019 cobra f max driver? stupendously forgiving I use last year's and to be honest Al prob never give it up!
Ping G410 all day. Best driver I’ve hit.
I was fitted for the Epic Flash this spring. I hit it great, played Tuesday missed 1 fairway; I have the hosel setting at +2* with a Draw setting.
Hi James, I missed the "Flash" 🤣
Would love to see a 2018 vs. 2019 comparison (M4/M6, G400/G410, ST180/ST190, Epic Flash/Rogue)
Just wonderful, I have been researching "how to apply golf handicap" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Tonayden Senadelyn Remedy - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my m8 got cool results with it.
How about the XIXO X driver? Can you get s hold of that club for testing its accuracy and forgiveness.
Nice video again James...Please do the G410 SFT vs the Plus comparison ...I’m loving my G400 SFT but interested in one of those 🍻
Very very shocked you don't have the cobra f9 speedback in with these after all the good review's it had but like you said it's your opinion.
Fabulous
How about doing a comparison with clubs on price too?
Low handicapper here
Give me a forgiving driving too!
Not just for the high-mid h/c
G400 Max again🚀🏌️♂️👍😁
I've been playing for 40 years. Of all the drivers I have hit the ST190 is forgiving, I've hit some shockers and still got them out there off toe, heel, top and bottom. I have been very surprised on off centre hits. Also it's the straightest driver I have known and the longest. Last night hit 8 iron to our 483yard 3rd and I've never been that close to the green before, it's a par 4 so long drive a must.
Yes but you are not a mid to high handicapper if you hit the ball that far. This video was about what works for mid to high handicappers.
Good surprise at the end, you had me fooled. Good job on your homework and keep up the awesome work 👍
enjoyed the video James, would love a comparison between the draw biased versions? Top stuff chap...
I prefer the copper on the G400 than the cheaper looking red on the G410 (I own both) but then I'm more stylish...;)
Good idea James, a test between SfTec and d-type. And why not throw in the G4110 and Epic flash with the weight in the heel.
Great video owned and sold 915d2, 917d2, m2, m3 still using my 910d2 105mph speed using x flex shaft finds middle of club every time average driver 230yards and the design not far from ts2 lol.
I really dig your videos. It would be great if you could compare wedges!!
Would love to see the cobra mimwedges
Cleveland cbx
5. Mizuno st190
4. Callaway Epic flash
3. TaylorMade M6
2. Ping g410
1. Titleist ts2
Where is the F9?
Great video James. I have a question that I hope someone can help with. I have a natural draw when hitting my irons but when it comes to my driver it always goes right/fade/slice. The only difference I make is my stance. Could it be the driver which is an ancient Calloway biggest big bertha? I know I really need to update my clubs.
When I say stance I mean playing my driver on the front foot.
What about the new Cleveland Launcher would like to comparison between original and current model
Hi James, nice video. Would there be any advantage to a non-forgiving driver? Do you win distance, or is it about feel and looks?
Callaway epic FLASH!!!!!!!!!! Don't stop doing that I love it!
I would like to see a battle of the D-type drivers.
Should i replace my clevland hibore xl from 2007. I dont really need a longer drive. More accurate would be more my goal.
1 question I have is if you move the head with the tip adapter are you not also changing the spine of the shaft??
Ping drivers are most forgiving specially the ones with SFT easy to hit maintain straight flight
Personally, I like the Top Flight Gamer Tour in 10.5* with a 65 weight normal/stiff graphite shaft.
good video James but for those of us who don't change drivers every year :( we are still using our Taylormade R 15.
I love my TS2
What do you think of Benross clubs
i buyed benross driver, best driver in my 5 driver collection :) better than gbb epic, cobra, yonex and razr fit
