    I rebuild my first EJ25 engine and I installed the wrong main bearings (STDX) 0.001" extra clearance, what I needed was STD. Now I get to do it again 😁

    Hello Andy. I hope you don't take as criticism but it seems like there should be a more secure way to hold the crankshaft when torquing down the connecting rod caps rather than holding it in a vise. The pressure pulling sideways on the crank may not be bending it at all but if it was secured in a sturdier fixture of sorts it just seems like it would help you too so you would not need to hold back on the crankshaft while torquing. I know you are an expert builder and have many engines to prove so. This is simply a neutral statement from a loyal fan to possibly assist to bring your builds to another level of refinement. I love your channel my friend.

    Привет.По моему мнению , одна из лучших серий по сборке,прогрессируешь и прислушался к просьбам твоих поклонников по поводу перевести на тот или иной язык,молча ,но все понятно и снято детально и со всеми не маловажными(я бы сказал основопологающим при сборке щепетильности в допусках размеров),круто было бы если паралельно выводить на экран допуски размеров, и будет хоть в университет это пособие обучения,как относится к сборке правильно.Спасибо.

    Wahnsinn wie genau du ihr das macht super saubere Werkstatt und arbeit ich hab meine vespa getunt 46ps am Rad haha mit dem hab ich gumistreifen gezogen hat weil die so laut war hat sogar die Polizei dann nach geschaut aber da war ich schon zuhause. Ich liebe das zerlegen schmutzig auf mega genau und sauber zusammen bau und du bist Vorbild für mich was arbeit betrifft mach so weiter lg aus Wien

    Oh man, the EJ20 crank is so tiny and lightweight. No wonder they are such lovely engines. But don't put lightweight pulleys on the front of the engine! The crank speed needs damping at idle, so a heavy pulley stops the crank getting wrecked on #1 & #4.

    Why measure the connecting rod bolt before torquing them down?? Pleasure watching you work, real perfection👌

      They are stretch bolts. He measures that they stretch as specified by the manufacturer, which means that they are torqued down perfectly. Lesser builders just torque it until it beeps and call it a day :)

      He's a pro, leave him be. Arguably one of the best Subaru engine builders in the world. He's got all of the machines for that, just watch his channel and be amazed.

    Why do you not use plastigauge to check main and bigend bearing clearance? Even after all the measuring, i still like to double check.

I've built a great many engines mainly RB26's and a handful of EJ's/4G63's and i always liked to double check my measurements with plastigauge, it has on a very few occasions highlighted slightly tighter gaps that localised measurements would have missed. Am always keen to learn from others experience.

      They are designed to withstand thrust. I personally would have used a towel to guard the bottom though.

    Sure seems like the wrong way to torque the connecting rods, really bending the crank in the vice like that. Dont they sell a fixture? I get the block is two halves and its inaccessible compared to a traditional build, but there has to be a better way.

      He's measuring bolt stretch on the rod cap. Properly torqued to spec. No engine builder goes the same distances that he does.

    Why all install this black crankshaft from Spec-c,a lot of test were made and show that hardness of all crankshafts the same.Its just advertising action from subaru. Just a Marketing.
