When I was a kid I used to listen to it as entertainment but now that I'm an adult I hear the message in the music, and that leather suite looks good on him 😊
"If I Ruled The World". That was probably his greatest release. Because he crossed over two music genres and was one of the 1st rappers to introduce the rest of the world outside of Washington DC,to GO GO music which had already been out for decades, and most people even in New York did not know about it. All we knew was the song was a hit,and that Kurtis was DOPE! Even in 2021 that song will still slam.
Ah that's some amazing history! Because after that Kid n Play and Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince all used the Go Go swing in their beats heavily, good to know who did it first! 👏🏾
You 100% right I was living in Brooklyn at the time that song had a beat we never heard before and it was a smash hit later on as I got older and traveled I found out it was go go that shit he did was no less than genius
Thank god we still have Kurtis and his Musical Genius among us, Cause I can confess I wish we still had the Human Beatbox Buffy Love and the Prince Markie Dee among us still the Fatboys deserved a Good Bye tour for all Hiphop fans.
I miss them good ol days classics now but man as a kid I totally remember these jams. Now I'm an adult I miss this hip-hop now more than ever. From the 80s till now kurtis blow and the old heads that was spit verses I won't ever let die out. I miss these good old days
THIS WAS IN MY TIME ! I STILL LOVE THIS SONG AT 54 YEARS OLD, MUSIC IS NOT LIKE THIS ANYMORE. THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS SATANIC NOW & OUT OF ORDER. 🙏😁♥️💪☝️💯
@C C Nah. Rakim rapped that verse smoothly. Which no rapper was really doing. Most of them were screaming or at least talking very aggressively at the listener. Kurtis Blow used that "Ha, Hough" style of the first school and Rakim never did. Lyrically I don't think the fish line was anything new or different than what Moe Dee had already done. Moe Dee was had most advanced rhyme patterns and lyrics up until Rakim.
This song Remembers me of such Goodtimes..wasnt really my favorite Song But it was the PERFECT Vibe Rap Hip Hop & FUNK a GoGo No other Rapper made this mix Pure Bred Trouble Funk Kurtis Blow will always be UNIQUE!! I'm Chillin'
After watching Kurtis Blow in an interview posted online regarding a possible upcoming event with other 80's hip hop artist, I had to come to YT. Gessh, I was 8 when this came out. 🙂

Early 80’s rap was soooo smooth
Kurtis, crushed this, I don’t care what anyone says! *(boy was lit 💥)
Oh yes he did! ❣️
And he was easy on the eyes 😏
When I was a kid I used to listen to it as entertainment but now that I'm an adult I hear the message in the music, and that leather suite looks good on him 😊
I remember this lol. Good tines
I was just thinking the same thing
Same here with me in Nigeria.I heard that Kurtis is now an evangelist... Well I am trying also to be one...

Kurtz crushed this..❤❤❤ I am happy for him now that he is now for Christ.❤❤❤
Back when my parent's and grandparents were still alive. Man i LOVE the memories ❤
Listen to the lyrics back then. The message of the music was always uplifting and encouraging.

Showing my 9 year old son what real rap is and what I used to listen too
This is too early for raps peak show him Eazy E, Pac, Nas, Biggie, DMX, Dre, Ice Cube
@Foolish Genius You cant be showing Nas without showing the foundation for Nas.

Damn a lot of those Fugees songs were covers
Most of the music back then is way better than music today. The music today is low vibe with negative affirmations

Years later still a great track and video!
Yes 1985 was the best year
Amazing how Rakim came in and overnight nobody rapped like this again.
This style wasn't aggressive and suppressive like Rakim's flow. He and Kane in my opinion are the first that came with that hardcore New York style.
Kool g rap
Ramim still rapped a bit like this at times. " Fish, which is my favorite dish. But without no money it's still a wish."
@C C Nah. Rakim rapped that verse smoothly. Which no rapper was really doing. Most of them were screaming or at least talking very aggressively at the listener.
