I would describe this podcast as a piece of unpolished quartz. Its kinda crappy and not that impressive, but it still has a special place in my heart. Honestly, i really love that you just seem to be having fun and enjoying making it. And the fact that you dont take it that seriously makes it the perfect blend of chaos and authenticity. Love the podcast and i hope you keep making it until the heat death of the universe.
I live for this kind of thing. It’s what I want in my group of friends when I hang out. It’s like hanging out with friends for a bit. It’s more like homemade Ruby. It looks nothing like a polished and cut stone, but shine a UV light on that pink rock and it glows like Ruby.
33:39 William, as a person who sews and paints while listening to this podcast, i appreciate hearing about this newfound enthusiasm for embroidery machines :) just know that at least one listener liked it enough to leave the realm of Spotify and leave a comment. Keep it up!
Worked in produce for years. It was closer to 50%. Highest waste in any retail environment. Which makes sense since shoes don't mold. We'd often (by often I mean 5-10 boxes a day from 3-4 pallets) get boxes of fruit that were already half rotten. Sometimes we'd get our money back but we still tossed the food.
That's not the ugly produce stuff though. That stuff usually gets diverted to processed foods (for like canned tomatoes or sauces, etc...) or sold at discount supermarkets.
5:30 for somebody that turns the quality down to 144p so my game doesnt lag as i listen to you minimised in the background, i appreciate the improved camera quality
jakes face: why did they invite me if they’re just going to sit here and talk to each other it looks like he’s really trying to find a good place to jump in the convo
Will, the last time I felt like I could relax and do nothing was the four weeks I got paid vacation at the start of the pandemic lockdown. Bills were paid, fees were delayed, I was getting emergency pay. Life was good. I replayed Mass Effect. Then it was back to work. Then I lost my job and turned into a content creator, and now I can't stop working. Written on my second monitor as I draw assets for my next project. I resonate with this podcast immensely.
on the topic of not being able to shut brain off/enjoy time/work on other projects. I understand that cuz i have a never ending project list but i feel bad doing those when i have "more productive" stuff i should be working on like cleaning, organizing, working out, making food. I found my escape that forced me to truly be able to shut off my brain was camping. It's a physical removal of the stress and i generally dont have service so it forces me to truly take time to rest
I'm not sure if you will read this but I wanted to say thank you. The past few weeks have been extremely stressful and being able to listen to this podcast really helped me in the evenings when my mind was racing. Also side note, I really enjoy you all speaking about your experiences becoming youtubers, dealing with video creation, challenges etc. I find it extremely interesting
The two concurrent conversations separated between the left and right audio channels has become such a recurring bit that I miss it when it's not in an episode. Also I think last week you asked what everyone's favorite thing from the podcast was. For me, it's Exodia Baby. I lost it laughing so hard at work over that.
I can't think of a single word descriptor that's really applicable, closest I can do is "chaotic fun". There's no rhyme or reason to most of it, yet I enjoy listening/watching to the whole thing anyway.
Oh will. I was stuck in hospital for 3 months. I was too far away from home for my kids to even visit much. It was incredibly distressing. But also probably the most rest I have had in my entire life. Sometimes on very difficult days I fantasise about the lack of pressure to do ANYTHING that was in hospital. I just had to keep breathing.
Dunning-Kruger Effect as a podcast… seriously. Each is gifted in specific areas and then talk out their a$s for 90%+ of the rest of the podcast episode. The ‘farm-to-table’ conversation was particularly exemplary of how they’ve never been food insecure nor interacted with anyone outside their socioeconomic level. Supermarkets constantly move their food into local/community food pantries. It’s why startups like imperfect foods aren’t actually diverting much from being wasted since so much already goes to those food-insecure or pantries.
Give Chelsea a mic and a cut of the Patreon already. Girl's on every damn episode lol. If nothing else, I would love a guest appearance from her. It'd be interesting to hear about her perspective on the circus that is UA-cam science.
Can't tell how this works in NA, but in Central Europe fruit from plantations gets collected/harvested and then is presorted at the farm into different categories by looks. The ones that don't look pretty sometimes get sold to big food companies for apple sauce or juice, but depending on the market price they could get tossed because storage and transport is just not worth it financially. For grains and stuff farmers usually make contracts with companies a year in advance with how much they buy and at what price, if you produce too much you're stuck with it, if the market price is higher you lose out, if you have a bad year you pay a fine to make up the missed quantity. What really grind my gears is that it is financially better for a lot of farmers to just grow stuff to turn into biofuel, because the seeds are cheaper, they can use cheaper fertilizer and more aggressive pesticides because no human is going to consume it. And in the end they are right to do so because they make more profit that way.
About the embroidery machine technical problems: I've worked as a line worker in an clothing company and, i can say that Will isn't far from the truth. Many business outsource the embroideries to "specialized" companies that only do that part of the job. Not only for cost reasons but, also because of the technical hurdle of needing a specialized technician to fix every little tiny problem. Even a single loose thread can be potentially catastrophic, you either call the expensive (and busy) technician or you do it your self and accept the risks of having low quality products. meaning its less expensive to lose a few bucks in quality control than paying hundreds every time a sewing head is 1.5 mm off position. On a more personal note: i worked for 15 minutes in one of these embroidery machines, trying to put a design on denim back pockets. I remember making a total of 11 badly done pockets before they changed me to other machine. So, yes they suck! 😒
You can buy lower grade produce in bulk, its a thing. Different stores may also buy different grades, so they aren’t using the same rules for throwing things out.
want to add that regulations , like food handling laws prevent most unsold but still good food from groceries, restaurants etc from being redistributed to charities, homeless etc. many places actually see the issue and try to set something up , but get shut down by the state.
The topic at the end, and the fact that most "old" youtubers tends to slow down and eventually not post anything anymore... It really hammers home that youtube burnout is real. and that goes with any platform really.
this podcast reminds me of American healthcare, an absolute clusterfuck that everyone suffers from but nobody really bothers to fix the system so it just continues
You guys think the podcast is trash but it really isn't. It's kinda like the Gus and eddy podcast was. Not the most polished and professional set up yet really good. Granted this podcast is a bit more chaotic, it slaps.
I was getting distracted a lot of the time by the fact that what i think is a curtain was blurring the light and making it hard to tell if the TV was lined up with the window frame or not and if it wasn't and if i was there as the camera i would position myself to where the TV lines up with the window frame until i am am satisfied
I've never played League of Legends, but I help with broadcasts in my school's ESports Center. One of my jobs is to edit highlights of previous matches for rebroadcast, and I had (and have) so much trouble editing League clips. A single League broadcast just seems like two hours of constant chaos. Nonetheless, you have to respect people who play it just for being able to interpret that much sensory input for that long.
52:49 I think that would be me, I honestly have so little stress about it that i haven't uploaded in a few weeks. Also I'm listening to this while editing, It makes the process so much more entertaining.
Need more weekly maker vloggers, take us on the ride of the project. Instead of pushing release dates cause its not done show us why it's not done. Waiting on parts have a 2nd project. etc. etc. much more relatable and watchable material imo
Since I started watching this podcast, I have not been sick. Until this week when you decided to release the podcast 2 days late. I am now sick and it is all your fault. Also love the podcast btw 👌😍
I was listening to the "bad food thrown out" conversation and looked it up. "the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act of 1996 (PDF, 207 KB) (42 U.S. Code § 1791) provides limited liability protection for people who make good faith donations of food and grocery products to nonprofits that feed the hungry? The act also provides limited liability protection, both civil and criminal, for those who distribute food and groceries, such as food banks." I kinda feel like people/companies are just misinformed.
Hey William I recommend picking up some Madeira thread if you haven't already it's a lot higher quality thread and they have retro reflective thread along with conductive thread
Rofl, this podcast is so chaotic. I have no idea who the guest is, and the only real thing I learned about him is that Marvel rejected his invite to a movie premier.
Just give Chelsea a mic so we can hear her. She is literally on every episode.
fr lol
for some reason she's really shy but she doesnt understand how badly we need a voice of reason in this chaos
When she isn’t talking she’s walking behind William, because he never has the door of his office closed.
Or give her her own episode
She doesn't have to show her face but just give her a mic.
Love that chelseas voice in on the podcast more now. A voice of reason and stability.
The Only* voice of reason and stability
Chelsea perfectly described the podcast in one word: “downhill”. We’re all here loving every minute of it!

I'm here too! I would love to see Williams adventure of trying to get an embroidery machine working.

Nigel sitting on Jake’s lap has awakened something in me.

Why is Nigel so muscular suddenly lol, has he been working out
Rightt..
I think it’s his new vitamin d levels from spending time in Cali and not up in Canada
No, this podcast is not shit.. It's more like how mothers tell their children: "You're not weird son, you're just special"
This podcast is a trainwreck full of swimsuit models.
It's horrible AND beautiful, and I can't look away
Lol
16:12 Nigel is as bored as we all are of hearing about Marvel

I want to see Allen turn himself into a quadcopter
*Oh and of course the man who turned his cat into a quadcopter* -vcauce
Williams damn smile when he says "We launched it with a Battlebot" is the single line that makes this podcast worth it.
always a good day when the science boys post!!!!!!!!
It really is
I'm loving the in person episodes. Great to see Nigel in America sitting on Santa Laser's lap.
The weird obsession for 2-3 weeks legitimately describes my entire life.

I love Chelsea being in the pod even if only off screen. She should be in more for sure.
