The key dimension is the length of each side of the vertical triangles. The tyre is wedged against lower seat back and upper cross member plus bolted to the frame as you do have to consider what forces would be in play should you have a head on collision. That would be my concern if it was made of thin alloy profiles. My first one was made of wood to get the shape correct but long term that did not seem to me to be a good idea.

People said this when I was making self-balancing one wheeled skateboards and the same thing applied, if someone fell off, they would certainly try to make it my fault if they were injured. There are companies that make space saver wheels/tyres for all sorts of cars. Mine was just the cheapest one on ebay. There are fancy alloy versions for Teslas too, some of which have been reviewed on UA-cam, example: ua-cam.com/video/BFj9U1h82hs/v-deo.html
I do like shopping trays but not usually for shopping, a lot of the time I have old car bits in there - yes, in the trays to stop them crashing around. Go to a car workshop and you may well see shopping trays ! In the UK they used to use bread delivery trays which are similar. A wheel flat in the boot is just totally in the way of anything else - this is the real point. Or, is the problem that I have challenged the great god Elon? Car is excellent by the way :)
I just searched the web for "space saver tyre Tesla Model 3" and bought cheapest one. If you have the performance version with 19" rims then there are more problems obtaining these but for the other models there is more than one space saver option out there you can choose from.
Good solution. I'm currently fitting a space saver under the floor in my Model Y and will have a video on this on my channel in a few week's time.

I just bought cheapest space saver online that fits a Model 3. It has a steel rim, nothing very special.

Great idea, what stops the tyre from sliding back during acceleration?
I usually have a tray in there that is an exact fit. I have a rubber liner which increases grip so it only slips back if you accelerate very hard(!)
Do you know where I can purchase one of these tire supports or have you made any drawings that I can use to have one fabricated for me?
I should measure it and make a diagram people can use. I may do that and add it into the comments under the video.
