- Any one in or interested in REALITY FIGHTING and SELF PROTECTION is familiar with the "GOD FATHER" of that arena, GEOFF THOMPSON. Like me, he is the product of being bullied and like me, became something he did not like before turning things around and embarking on a spiritual journey. By the time I had heard of him, I had already been training MYSELF and researching to learn more about CRIME STATS, CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGY Etc. That was on account of me almost being killed in 1981 when a friend of a friend attacked me with a steak knife. THOMPSON is, TODAY a different man who is STILL remembered by UK Gangsters as one of the most feared men in the entire UK. This is NOT to praise the man, but to shed some light on others who came before myself who also believe "romanticizing" about martial arts can be dangerous and life threatening in an increasingly violent world.
He was derided by so many in the U.K. martial arts scene. He wrote for combat magazine and people would say his opinions were based on the fact he couldn’t do things like high kicks. He could. He just knew what real fights were like. Everything he said turned out to be true. The rise of mma showed what he was saying to be true about how the majority of people train in martial arts. Read most of his books back in the day. ‘Watch my back’ is a great read

Yes he is! I communicated with him in the past a bit by email. He thinks high of Muhammad :). That is hard to come across in the states really! A good guy. My peers really are there in the UK. Here in America, a man can have his freakin face ripped off and he still will not wake up to REAL training!

I have been doing self defense.most of my life and I can tell you from experience.U.K combatives is the most realistic approach to self-defense.
I have an old black belt magazine from 2006, and he made the list of toughest street fighters on planet earth. He was # 3 out of 17 others. I believe the late Gene Lebell was # 2 and Terry O'Neill was # 1.
When I was a boy training at my dojo in both Karate and Judo. We had a Vietnamese guy named Munn. He was a full contact Karate champion with numerous titles and trophies, he was incredibly fast, by the time you felt his first punch, he was hitting you with the third. Years later when I was in my 20's I heard from a friend who also knew about him, that Munn had gone out to a bar with some friends and a fight broke out. Apparently, Munn lasted about 60 seconds in the fight and later woke up in the hospital with a skull fracture and a brain bleed. He was utterly shocked that he'd done so poorly in the fight and ended up training in WWII Combatives, sometimes called Defendu with another instructor that I'd also trained under, named Carl Cestari. It's a more Special Forces, hand to hand, style of fighting geared towards battlefield conditions and very brutal. That bar fight was a real wake up call for him.
Have been a fan of Geoff for years now. Great to see your channel, that I admire greatly as well, to endorse Geoff.

Geoff was well known with a certain regiment within the Army. He has always been a man of incredible wisdom. His “matter of fact” way of instilling realism in to his teachings have always resonated in me a deep respect for him. Him and Peter Consterdine were two of the original men who really bought the psychological side of violent confrontation, situational awareness and understanding fear and how to overcome freeze from fear and to learn when you need to resort to action using a threat thermometer system. Two of the most important men in UK real life street survival.
