Not sure if it has been mentioned already but another benefit of grabbing them after the first shot is that if u have sparked them, they won’t smash their head off the pavement and get their revenge on u from the afterlife. So many idiots have started fights, got knocked out and killed from secondary impact with the floor leading to innocent people being portrayed as monsters and jailed for defending themselves.

Much the same as the Japanese principle of Sen = Before. The 3 preemptive attack initiatives.
Sen, Sen no Sen ( Before the before) Act as soon as you sense a threat,
Sen no sen (Before) Act if the opponent motions to attach
Go no sen (After the before) Avoid oncoming attack & counter. Body movement & striking is as one.

Great insights. It's uncommon to see modern practical interpretations of Mushashi's work, especially for empty hand fighting. I would also like to give props to the guy with the pads for being a good uke(training dummy) he'd make a good stuntman. His reactions to the strikes looked so real it made me think he studied at the Lebron James school of flopping😁

  • @michaelreynolds6543

the only thing i will add here is; Musashi lived in a bygone era where the rule of self protection wasnt as it is now "reasonable force" hadnt been coined, and today's enemy is slightly different.
Dont get me wrong Im all for pre-emptive strikes. My whole "system" is based on avoidance and preemptive attacks (as we all know blocks dont work) and my "base art" is Wing Chun thats been modified
Being "pro active" and "preemptive" is the way to go Geoff Thompsons teachings taught me that, but you have to be careful here the law is generally regarded as the "SECOND ENEMY" ha Musashi didnt have to deal with plod . . . . so watch your body positioning keep that distance employ that fence and watch how you "talk with your hands" coz as we all know big fucking brother is watching you and the evidence will convict you, so play to the cameras play defensive whilst laying that trap, play dumb play non threatening coz you never know who is watching!

    • @Peacekeepa317
      @Peacekeepa317 3 роки тому

Thats true but it sounds like a lot of training to just practice that posture for the camera's sake. If one doesn't do that then that's some wasted fractions of a second. If I have a situation, I'm assuming he's trying to take my life. Ill worry about the law later. Rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. FYI, Wing Chun is my base style too. I love the frame, sensitivity and reflexes it breeds

So totally refreshing to see this on UA-cam amidst the one touch knockouts and chi masters, Morrison is one who says the truth- HIT THE SON OF A BITCH!
Fighting is basically physics with rhythm. It involves force vectors, angles of attack, and so many other variables. He is not wasting time on pseudo-spiritual bs. No fancy uniforms or rituals passing as talent.
I like Geoff Thompson a lot also. I don't teach anymore but I developed the "6 to 10 hour training model." People have busy lives- wife, kids, job, school. How many can get to a gym even 20 hours a week? It is about impossible as an adult. But if you can train say 6 to 10 hours a week you can develop some decent street kills. And you have to keep it simple- some decent strikes, some groundwork and weapons. Better to be good at a few things than crappy at a lot. You will never be Conor McGregor or even close, but you may be more than good enough for a street thug or just be able to get away. Running is not discussed nearly enough in martial arts programs.

I made the mistake of letting the guy get right in my face instead of keeping him at range with my lead hand like this guy says...So we grappled and it was a stalemate, I fell down and back but got up quickly, he advanced on me with with hands half down, I said stay back a few times but he tried walking me down so I angled away from his power hand and hit him with 3-5 hooks starting with a right lead, right to the jaw. His eyes glazed over as he took a knee and said "WTF man!" and I backed off at an angle towards my room door, kept my guard up with my power hand showing, saying leave the room now or else I'll go again. He left. So if I coudl go back, I'd punch stop him with my lead hand and if he pressed, I'd punch him with my power left cross, and and slip/ duck, crack him with a right hook to the dome as I angle away and walk back to see if he wants more

This instructor is genius! I love the psychological aspects he makes everyone aware of i mean ive been in so many bar fights street fights in my younger days and looking back on it noone grabs the other everyone seems to hit and wait like their in a mma ring or boxing match and hes right that is very dumb and could eventually get ya killed... this man is amazing his insight is amazing! Well done brother!

Red-headed step-child here, had a dozen street fights, was jumped, cracked ribs, faced stitched up, etc. Then I started training at age of 25. By 29 I was fucking formidable. I am now in my 50s and can honestly say I have not yet had to use my skills outside of a Dojo, Gwoon, or Tournament. However, I have had several occasions where if I did not have those skills, I would have been a victim again. Mr. Morrison is very correct, listen to him, develop your Inner Reacher!

bull! Always defend yourself and hit second, just after his shot flies... if you're not a coward. If you're coward, and you are afraid, hit first. What a Hell, than carry a gun with you. so the mommy's little precious girl won't have a bleeding nose from time to time. The world these two-fights-in their-lifetime "legends" create is a world of brutal cowards. Be strong, never hit first! You'll be alright! These days, when people fight less, are more brutal and less gentlemenesque than the good ol' days when we were fighting every Friday and Saturday night at the pub. No respect!

Thanks for the tip on the open hands. I had a couple of individuals Try to provoke me into striking first because they knew there was cameras present These people were so not fighters. If the camera was not there they would not tried to provoke me. Like that Baby Huey got himself shot provoking that delivery guy. UA-cam it. And as Musashi said " Do nothing that is not of use."

I don't know. The last time I used a preemptive strike it didn't work. My fist strike to the chin was not enough as the guy was though as nails. Then the fight began and the next thing I was being choked to death. I mean how could he took my full force hit so well ? Just saying there should be a plan B.

I haven't found such comment like yours before, very interesting, good that you've shared your situation. Indeed we may meet sometimes someone who is really though and I guess it is quite difficult situation...
I think that you did well anyway if you wrote that comment haha.
Plan B is needed, but I think it is split second decision then, so maybe better to follow up the preemptive strike with a kick to the groin? Just thinking out loudly... It would be like plan AB - if A works, then great but you make sure guy won't hurt you just in case he is some though mofo.

@@Christopher26021994 I heard on the internet that guys with very solid necks take puches very well. That guy sure had a very strong neck. So we should watch out for a wide, muscular neck ! Plan B... maybe a pen or something. Anyway a stunned reaction as to "why my strike didn't work" is the worst reaction.

Agreed, hit then keep hitting, or hit and get in close for a choke from behind.

Great video. I have always believed in hitting hard, hitting fast and getting away as fast as possible. The risks are too great in a street or bar brawl. Getting suckered or jumped, getting hit with an object or even worse, stabbed or shot to death.

Yes, if you reasonably believe he is about to attack you. Also, the amount of force you use must be reasonable AND, you can't keep banging away once the threat from him is no longer there.

Learn the law mate. You are allowed to hit first in self defence if you have an honest belief you are going to be attacked. The law doesnt state you have to wait to be attacked first. But if thats what you wanna do, good luck with that. Hope you're health insurance is up to date.
