healing in ffxiv if ur party knows how to play their class is pretty chill till u get to hardcore content most damage to the party can be avoided and the stuff that cant is normaly quite spaced out so often an AOE regen and let it do its thing is more then enough also every class has some form of self care they can do to give small burts of heals that dont effect their rotation so for the most part unless ur partys making lots of mistakes 99% of the fight its the tank and only the tank u need to worry about once u get used to healing its basicaly 90% of ur casts are dps spells and their dps rotation is often 2-4 spells so its very easy
I started playing as a White mage recently and had never had a problem with a team...besides the other day. I got stuck in a dungeon with a Dark Knight who just loved dragging EVERY single enemy in multiple rooms effectively killing him faster than I could heal him. I thought I was doing a horrible job as a healer but the guy was dragging too many enemies that not even the DPS on our side could handle once he fell. I'm glad I stumble into your vid since I was about to drop white mage, now I know that if the tank wants to die, he will die for all I care, not wasting revives on someone too full of themselves and can cooperate with their healer
I dont see how this is his problem unless he kept doing it and/or wasnt using mitigation. I have a macro encouraging tanks to pull wall to wall, its faster and saves me mana. you should say something if youre not ok with this.
Always play healer as my primary on all MMO I played. I really appreciate Square giving the WHM some offensive capabilities in FF14. I had to grind so hard back on FF11 as a WHM, you can’t even solo anything past LV15 pretty much. Enjoying being a WHM in this game a lot.
Had a healer do that to me (probably) accidentally the other day. Pulled me out of the path of one aoe (I was almost out anyway though) and into a worse one. Pretty sure it was just a mistake on their part.
Recently levelled WHM and SCH to 50, both very good, not sure if I wish to try AST yet. Think I am leaning towards SCH being primary healing job though. Great content as always.
@Keadin Mode Whispering Dawn and Adlo are your friends for healing until you get your oGCD heals. Physicks is a trap unfortunately & you don't want to be spamming heals without Lucid Dreaming active. Usually if your tank uses their mitigation tools properly, you should be fine on MP during trash pulls. I almost forgot to add, your Faerie is also a mini regen for your team, so it can function as a second healer during light parties.
@Keadin Mode I found that briefly too, as soon as I started using Adlo more often and Lucid Dreaming on CD I found I was rarely having an issue. The Faerie does an OK job the rest of the time.
@Keadin Mode not sure which level you're at but I found the 51-60 bracket to be particularly painful with SCH. You're an oGCD healer but lack most of your oGCDs until 70, heals don't scale as well as they do at lower levels and both you and your tank may be in levelling gear in addition to still learning the respective job. Make sure to use Fey Illumination if you *have* to start spamming Adlo, since that buffs your GCD heals by 10% for some time, and maybe craft or buy an HQ weapon off the market board at levels 56, 66 and 76 since that's going to have the biggest influence on how much a single heal is going to do. Use Whispering Dawn but don't waste it when everyone is near full health anyway. Don't overheal, SCH punishes that more than any other healer.
@Keadin Mode Things that are easily forgotton by most new scholars are the fairy skills and sacred soil. With a whispering dawn and a sacred soil on during a trashpack, not much can go wrong. Whispering Dawn is basically your Regen for a tank, so don't think in the way "but it's a group hot, and the dps don't need healing" - you don't have a single target hot, and waiting for dps to get damage in trash is just wasting this resource for healing the tank. Also Fey Illumination reduces damage and buffs Adlo, in case you need it. It's true what some others say - in the 50-70 department it's a bit stupid cause you're missing fundamental OGCDs, but start right away to utilize ALL skills you have and healing on sch will be a breeze^^. I highly recommend watching FFXIVMomos Videos on dungeon healing - they are for max level, but you can get a very good idea on what to use how, even for earlier levels.
I started as a BRD which is still love, then a PLD to tank, and finally a WHM, and by far I enjoy WHM the most. I was hesitant to heal, but I just went for it and it is now my main job. Oh, and when the Tank or DPS are dicks I will keep them barely alive. They seem to get in line quickly after a few scares.
Tanks that refuse to use mitigation at higher levels are the WORST. I recently started leveling WHM an as a tanking main there are some of my fellow tank player that aren’t aren’t even using the bread and butter combinations so that they don’t immediately explode after I just healed them.
I hear that it becomes much more interesting after 50 especially when you get Blood Lily. I'm on 48 as my WHM myself and while I don't hate it, I'm not really as enthusiastic about it as I am tanking (my main role) and DPS. I'm going to stick with it and see how it goes.
Not sure why you hate but if it's because it seems boring you'll get a ton of fun things added to your kit past 50. If it's because it's stressful then it's gonna get worse.
@@meximous2259 I think ARR healing in dungeons is more stressful since you don't really have any instant heal abilities like you do at higher levels and tanks usually only have less defensives too
kind of an old comment but id like to throw in my 2 cents as well, im a healer main and honestly prefer the other two classes over white mage, so if it isnt working out for you might i suggest you give a different class a try? astrologian starts at 30 and is a nice pretty class to pick up :D
i will also add white mage seems like its the hardest to heal with before 50 of them, as it seems to take longer to cast and feel like theres more resistance in attempting to heal the way id like to, and although im 80 on the other 2 and only 60 on white mage, i can say for sure that its simply the playstyle of white mage that didnt agree with me at all and left me feeling stressed out after dungeons, so hopefully giving a different class a try might alleviate some of that
I'll start playing FF next week. In Wow I played a holy priest so I guess White Mage would be best for me. Is there an ability similar to leap of faith (pulling a player to you)? I really loved this ability for a lot of reasons.
I encountered a healer just earlier who treated healing in FF14 the same as any other MMO; healing, but no damage. They were a White Mage too, which have some of the strongest attack-type spells in the game as a healer in my opinion, so no doubt they'll learn that healers are just as important as the tank or DPS when it comes to damage
This is exactly my situation - I mained a cleric in EQ a thousand years ago, and I main dragoon in this game, so it's very counterintuitive to even consider damage output in the healer role. I'm learning, though!
As a career healer, I like a challenge. Good tanks can get boring; I get to test and expand my skills dealing with different types of play styles. Most RPG games are about the challenge more so than the convenience.
Lately I've encountered a shocking amount of 'healers' in dungeons, who always only used one spell, eg. Vita, or didn't even have switched to their second job (although they could have). I really hope these ppl find your guide, next time I'll recommend it to them.
I started playing healer yesterday and leveled to 40. Everything below lvl 30 was fun and easy, but the dungeons after that went horrible... I spammed my healing ability all the time and the tank still died... And then I wiped the party all the time because I didn't fully focus on a one hit boss mechanic for one second... It felt horrible. I really suck at multi tasking and I literally cried after that because I did so bad. Should I try it again or just go back to my main dancer?
your problem there is ur spamming ur healing abilitys for a pull u want to make sure ur regen spell is up if ur whm or ast and if the tank needs further heals dont use cure 1 phisic or benifict u use the teir 2 spell variants (for sch this is adloquium) u may say "but then i run out of mp" the truth is no u wont use lucid dreaming on cooldown when ur MP is below 75% (7500) and ull notice u wont need to spam say cure II most the time just make sure the tanks not gonna die (health is a resorse use it)ull have time to throw a few damaging spells between and as dps spells are much cheeper ull actually normaly gain MP per tick during these phases form passive regen take advantage of ur healing buffs regens and strong heals as well as ur cooldowns to keep them alive a cure spam wont keep anyone alive after level 30 unless ur tanks pulling really slow and popping their cooldowns on trash just to try to out last the mobs also check ur gear like all classes if ur gear falls behind its really noticable with healers ( its just as much of a problem with dps but due to trash and dungon mobs not having an enrage it is not as bad) there is a learning curve with healer but its very fun and once u get the hang of it ull be able to make the judgments on when to heal and when to let the tank take punishment safly
Make sure to use the upgraded versions of your healings spells as well. I sometimes forget that myself and I try to heal with lower level spells instead of higher level ones. Then there is gear. If you feel you don't heal enough it might be that your weapon isn't up to par. (Also speaking from experience. I know what it feels like to run around with a lvl 30 weapon in 45+ dungeons) And then my third tip: Don't give up. If you have dungeons that seem too much to you, ask some friends to train them with you until you feel comfortable. Speak with them on discord if you can. See when the most damage comes in during battles and learn to use your spells at the right time. And the most imporant thing: Just relax and have fun. Having someone die happens. Just take a deep breath and continue and you'll grow eventually. :) Hope you enjoy the game ~

I was a terrible priest on Ragnarok Online - so healer on other MMOs makes me incredibly anxious haha, especially FFXIV because you're expected to not only focus on healing, but DPS too. @_@ Idk if I have the brain capacity to multi-task like that.
i often discribe healer to new player as "healer is all about playing chicken with health bars its about healing with as few heal spells as nessary other then that ur basicaly a dps with a very simple dps rotation " and "ffxiv healer is about healing tactifuly not healing alot"
2:18 It's nice that you mention this, but you don't delve further into it. It's the one thing I didn't already know from the video. What are these mouse over commands and target selecetion helpers? Why can't you just use the F1 - F8 keys to select party members?
@Martin Øverby Yep, i placed the party list a little bit to the left of the center of my screen, once u get the hang of it, it's alot faster with just the mouse AND most importantly, u have ur fingers already ready for the skills instead of first moving over to select a party member...

Nearly getting 2 of my first level 80s. I'm thinking of starting a healer next but I'm so used to my wow addon style of healing (mouseover click healing). Is healing in this game just clicking on people to target and then pressing abilities?
I loved this guide! I am learning to heal on my SCH and I've been loving it so much! May I ask though, how did you add that hps meter on your lower left side of the screen?
I have a friend who really wish to become a healer she loves yshtola and mage but she is scare to screw up in dungeon. So what advised she I gave her to let her know that she can do it ? Any tips on that ?
I am so very late on this video, but how the heck do you switch between the person you heal? I can see you targeting party members by 'scrolling' back and forth between them, but it doesn't seem like you're playing on a controller. How does this work? It seems way easier to do that than clutter the middle part of the screen with my party members, to be able to click fast and heal them up fast!
Your method is way better, i am clicking targets on the upper left of my UI, which is really bad. The reason I am doing it is simply, that I am favoring the clean UI due to recording footage or livestreaming, so stick with your UI close to the center 😊👍
Just a small critique. I am a noob healer coming from wow and find healing cumbersome because I click on my teammate on the healing hud and then press my healing button and it feels so annoying. I don't feel this guide help me addressing this. Is there anyway to make it more easy? Like a healing add on like in wow?
I unblock white Mage yeaterday and i hit lvl 30 and.. I don't know how many times i did satasha dungeon just for practicing and try to calm down myself cause being healer for first times feels horrible in this game, i was so nerveous and have anxiety attacks, i'll keep trying.. is fun though
Probably dps since it's less stressful. If you're experienced in MMOs then you could probably start healer. But dps is easier to understand the game cause it's the easiest, just hit the boss.

As a veteran Healer from other games who never played Final Fantasy 14. The Healer role in this game sounds more toxic than normal, so I can see why there are fewer Healers. The expectation that you both manage attacking and the healing role is unrealistic.
Have you tried it? There is only three dps buttons, a dot, single target and aoe .. it's not complicated at all and there is a lot of time to throw out DPS .. actually adds something interesting
I've had that happen to me at least twice. One was someone who somehow unequipped their soul crystal before queuing up, and the other was someone who didn't know they had to advance to get better skills
So...has anyone ever found a real use for Cure3? Because I can't think of a situation where it somehow served me better than...literally any other of my healing arts.

@@ryno4ever433 Mostly muscle memory. I rarely use keys beyond f4 tho, if I really need floor tanks up and running I gonna manually click them or take my time with it. As long as you can target yourself, tanks and co-healer, you're golden.
@@Marwington I just click everyone and that's usually enough for an orange parse. I'd love to find an alternate way to target them that didn't involve the F keys though. Was thinking of experimenting with keybinds.
Thanks for the video!! This helps a lot as a baby healer afraid of being the difference between life and death O_O
healing in ffxiv if ur party knows how to play their class is pretty chill till u get to hardcore content most damage to the party can be avoided and the stuff that cant is normaly quite spaced out so often an AOE regen and let it do its thing is more then enough
also every class has some form of self care they can do to give small burts of heals that dont effect their rotation so for the most part unless ur partys making lots of mistakes 99% of the fight its the tank and only the tank u need to worry about
once u get used to healing its basicaly 90% of ur casts are dps spells and their dps rotation is often 2-4 spells so its very easy
how you doing now?
I started playing as a White mage recently and had never had a problem with a team...besides the other day. I got stuck in a dungeon with a Dark Knight who just loved dragging EVERY single enemy in multiple rooms effectively killing him faster than I could heal him. I thought I was doing a horrible job as a healer but the guy was dragging too many enemies that not even the DPS on our side could handle once he fell. I'm glad I stumble into your vid since I was about to drop white mage, now I know that if the tank wants to die, he will die for all I care, not wasting revives on someone too full of themselves and can cooperate with their healer
yup ^_^
I dont see how this is his problem unless he kept doing it and/or wasnt using mitigation. I have a macro encouraging tanks to pull wall to wall, its faster and saves me mana.
you should say something if youre not ok with this.
I'm trying to be a DPS healer so this helps a lot
Blood for the blood Lilly.
You forgot the most important reason to play healer, Rescue people and push them in AOE or from the Arena for lots of recomendations.
Had a healer do that to me (probably) accidentally the other day. Pulled me out of the path of one aoe (I was almost out anyway though) and into a worse one. Pretty sure it was just a mistake on their part.
DPS falling in love with Aoe's! Had me dying lol.🤣🤣
BLM: I don't love AOEs, I am just performing scientific studies on the capabilities of my barrier :p
The Astrologian Yugioh joke around the 4:00 mark was pretty good.
First one to tell me that I'm ever supposed to touch limit break. So far I've been told "Limit break is for the dps".
That Witcher music at the end took me by surprise.
Lol. Gestern auf Shiva als Heal angefangen, heute das Video. Nice. :D
Das freut mich 😊
Keadin Mode if you have your command missions up trying running a few dungeons with your squad as a healer. It’s a good way to practice.
OMG! I was getting strong flashbacks to Kami-dere WHMs from Zepla's Dere types vid.
Yeah I’m just gonna stick to black mage 🧙♂️👍
I just use F1 through F8 to target party members cause that’s the default setting.
"Duel Masters" now there is a name I haven't heard of in a long time
I started as a BRD which is still love, then a PLD to tank, and finally a WHM, and by far I enjoy WHM the most.
Waiting for Sage to be released, will be my first time as a healer.
I haven't ran as a healer in about a year or two honestly. I went scholar first time. So this toon I'm trying out white mage first.
I got my WHM to 50 today and so far I hate healing
Yeah actually, it's called Rescue.
@@paraumbralin oh thanks, good to know. I really enjoy the game and that makes it even better :D
I'm assuming this would be an amazing guide if I had any idea what you are talking about. I'm a new player D:
Should I try it again or just go back to my main dancer?
your problem there is ur spamming ur healing abilitys
for a pull u want to make sure ur regen spell is up if ur whm or ast and if the tank needs further heals dont use cure 1 phisic or benifict u use the teir 2 spell variants (for sch this is adloquium)
u may say "but then i run out of mp" the truth is no u wont
use lucid dreaming on cooldown when ur MP is below 75% (7500) and ull notice u wont need to spam say cure II most the time just make sure the tanks not gonna die (health is a resorse use it)ull have time to throw a few damaging spells between
and as dps spells are much cheeper ull actually normaly gain MP per tick during these phases form passive regen
take advantage of ur healing buffs regens and strong heals as well as ur cooldowns to keep them alive a cure spam wont keep anyone alive after level 30 unless ur tanks pulling really slow and popping their cooldowns on trash just to try to out last the mobs
also check ur gear like all classes if ur gear falls behind its really noticable with healers ( its just as much of a problem with dps but due to trash and dungon mobs not having an enrage it is not as bad)
there is a learning curve with healer but its very fun and once u get the hang of it ull be able to make the judgments on when to heal and when to let the tank take punishment safly
Make sure to use the upgraded versions of your healings spells as well. I sometimes forget that myself and I try to heal with lower level spells instead of higher level ones.
Then there is gear. If you feel you don't heal enough it might be that your weapon isn't up to par. (Also speaking from experience. I know what it feels like to run around with a lvl 30 weapon in 45+ dungeons)
And then my third tip: Don't give up.
Hope you enjoy the game ~
ME TOO OH GOD IVE BEEN PLAYING WITH MY BOYFRIEND BUT THE RECENT DUNGEONS AT LEVEL 47 HAVE BEEN EATING ME ALIVE. Im so anxious and cry and freeze whenever I do dungeons now :((
@@alexacruz5984 dont be afraid to do new dungeons with a different job first. Being a healer is way easier once you are familiar with a dungeon.
Witcher 3 music yey :D
I was a terrible priest on Ragnarok Online - so healer on other MMOs makes me incredibly anxious haha, especially FFXIV because you're expected to not only focus on healing, but DPS too. @_@ Idk if I have the brain capacity to multi-task like that.
the icons in the 3 hotbars, are they all heal and attack spells?
i often discribe healer to new player as
"healer is all about playing chicken with health bars its about healing with as few heal spells as nessary other then that ur basicaly a dps with a very simple dps rotation "
and
"ffxiv healer is about healing tactifuly not healing alot"
That's a perfect description 😊
2:18 It's nice that you mention this, but you don't delve further into it. It's the one thing I didn't already know from the video. What are these mouse over commands and target selecetion helpers? Why can't you just use the F1 - F8 keys to select party members?
I don't use it in that way but the F1-F8 style is something I would use as well, when healing regularly
@Martin Øverby Yep, i placed the party list a little bit to the left of the center of my screen, once u get the hang of it, it's alot faster with just the mouse AND most importantly, u have ur fingers already ready for the skills instead of first moving over to select a party member...
i onoly need f2 or f3 if theres a second tank.
What keys do you use to tab through your allies??
you can use F1 (you) F2 (tank) F3, F4 for dps

Nearly getting 2 of my first level 80s. I'm thinking of starting a healer next but I'm so used to my wow addon style of healing (mouseover click healing). Is healing in this game just clicking on people to target and then pressing abilities?
how'd you get the DPS meter? Is there a mod manager for the game?
I loved this guide! I am learning to heal on my SCH and I've been loving it so much!
May I ask though, how did you add that hps meter on your lower left side of the screen?
It's ACT (advanced combat tracker) but setup to also show hps.
I have a friend who really wish to become a healer she loves yshtola and mage but she is scare to screw up in dungeon. So what advised she I gave her to let her know that she can do it ? Any tips on that ?
What is the cute costume that is shown at the start? I need it for my viera.
@@DesperiusFFXIV Many thanks! I was just wondering!

Just a small critique. I am a noob healer coming from wow and find healing cumbersome because I click on my teammate on the healing hud and then press my healing button and it feels so annoying. I don't feel this guide help me addressing this. Is there anyway to make it more easy? Like a healing add on like in wow?
You can cycle through your party members. Check your keybinds :) I think the default is F1-F10
Is it advisable to play a healer as a new player in FFXIV or better to start off with playing DPS?
Probably dps since it's less stressful. If you're experienced in MMOs then you could probably start healer. But dps is easier to understand the game cause it's the easiest, just hit the boss.
Have you ever thought about putting subtitles in your videos? Sometimes I'm not able to hear perfectly (not because of the audio quality), so subtitles would be really nice

I've been a whm main since 1.0 and still wonder if I'm actually a garbage healer or not.
I haven't played for 2 years. I am maxed out lvl 70 for scholar. I know I can get to level 80 now. Do I need to relearn the mechanics for this class or can I pick up from where I left off. I don't even remember the macros I set for the fairy.
Wait, you mean I can't just spam chain heal like on my shaman?

Welchen Healer stab nutzt du so vor minute 1
what's that glamour?
I am so fucking intimidated when I see how many spells you actually have on your hotbar.
As a veteran Healer from other games who never played Final Fantasy 14. The Healer role in this game sounds more toxic than normal, so I can see why there are fewer Healers. The expectation that you both manage attacking and the healing role is unrealistic.
Have you tried it? There is only three dps buttons, a dot, single target and aoe .. it's not complicated at all and there is a lot of time to throw out DPS .. actually adds something interesting
reason I hate healer=Tanks LOVE to run away from us, hide behind walls and expect us to heal through them, SO MUCH stress trying to keep them alive.
