Fender Eliminator Install for Ninja and Z650

In this video I show you a step by step install of the fender eliminator kit for Ninja and Z650. Why do you need to unbolt the taillight?
And do you find that the tailight gets chipped up or dirty now since there is nothing between the tire and the light?
