      It´s not "underrated", people just want "the new things" CA20-CA25-CA26.... But the CA18DET performs and ressist more than the CA20det

    Awesome video👍🏻. Can you please give more info on the pistons of the CA18DET? Is it forged pistons?
    And how much horsepower can you squeeze out from a CA18DET with stock internals.
    👍🏻Thanks

    • @JarrodWillemse
      @JarrodWillemse  Рік тому

      I’m not sure if they are forged. I think they are just cast. Stock bottom end 300-350hp would be the limit. The head won’t flow more than that anyway.

    Love my CA18DET in my 180SX its was a daily for 14yrs before I moved for work and now I stil have it 23yrs thougts it's in Australia waiting for me to return one day

      @Jarrodwillemse I might have some but they would be I Australia and I'm in Malaysia. My mate was a drift team mechanic so she runs sweet all the goodies with ceramic coated every bit of inlet and exhaust and sits on 9x18 and 10x18 Work Meister S1 2pc. It's gunmetal grey and the wheels have black spokes and a classic Kakimoto Racing R exhaust and rare trunck spoiler/wing all other exterior parts are stock so cops dont hassle. When I finally return she will go for a full refresh but now it can just sit in the shed back home.

    To what extent if any are the CA and SR related to each other? For example did the SR also carry over the characteristic un-skirted crankcase block that can be traced back to the original license built Austin engines?

    Great video as always! I do prefer CA18 over SR20s. Had two and never had any problems with them! On a side note, what oil would you recommend on a stock CA18? Not pushing any mods, just keeping the power as it is

    • @JarrodWillemse
      @JarrodWillemse  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! Yeh you never hear stories of ca engine blowing up unlike sr’s. If it’s cold where you are then 10-40 should be ok considering the engine is likely old and clearances are worn. If it’s hot then you could go 10-50.

      @@JarrodWillemse ye I’m from Europe, so CA18s used to be cheap. And because they were cheap people used to trash them and replace. SRs are way more sought after here as CAs have bad reputation in general. Great engines in my opinion still, even though they are being forgotten nowadays

      @@JarrodWillemse im from spain and its true here ca18det are bad reputation so people with schasis swap to sr20det
      But in the late years the sr20s also suffering from bearings i think years of drift and abuse is the reason.

    • @PalpatineDeux
      @PalpatineDeux 2 роки тому +1

      In France too. In the french schassis community lot of owners swap for SR20, RB25-26, 1-2JZ, even someones for LS or 1UZ.
      And yet I heard in Japan in 90's, they nicknamed the CA18 silvia's "baby Godzilla".
      Tho the benefit of this reputation is we have low prices for CA pieces compared to other japaneses engines.

    do you know the oem CA18det coil pack harness wire size/diameter in mm² ?? i have read something about 14 awg, which is 2.0mm² but is it really that thick or is it 1.5-1.6mm² ? maybe the conversion from awg to mm² is not correct
