Dude, thanks for sharing.
I learned a long time ago that watching an expert make their craft look easy is INSPIRATION-not EDUCATION.
So I just DIY’d my first rear windshield, and it’s got more fingers than a keyboard convention.
But some areas came out like I knew what I was doing, and I’m pumped!
Buying a 100ft roll of 5% film from eBay, and I’m gonna use your videos as a learning guide to practice.
Because like they say, “Anything that’s worth doing, is worth doing BADLY-until you get it RIGHT.”
Masai also realize that different brands and type of tints will shrink differently too. Some tints shrinks easily and other like ceramic will not shrink as well and require a bit of different technique.
DUDE YOUR METHOD JUST SAVED MY BUSINESS BROTHER , PLEASE CONTINUE TO POST MORE VIDEOS AND LESSONS ON TINTING
Thanks for the video. Real informative tried this method and works so much better, I'm currently using Scorpion Window Films. Thanks again very helpful
Great video. Not convoluted like the vast majority of tinting videos I see online. Thanks for sharing.
Dry method looks so much easier...i started out with the wet and it's all I've ever done...love the tutorial!
I started with wet also and oh boy did I destroy a LOT of film. Wet is for the more experienced for sure. But I find that dry shrinking is more even across the board instead of aggressively shrinking smaller areas as in wet shrinking. Thanks for watching!!
Just found out the hard way about wet shrinking.😅
@@WindowTintingBusiness I’m trying to tint an old motorcycle visor but not for use just as decoration around my room would it be easier to do it normally or heat shrink the tint onto the visor
I like your method! Will use this when i try tinting for the first time
Great job explaning this process. Thank you.
Great tutorial! Best I ever seen!!!!! It worked great!!!! Thanks!!!!!
Patrick thanks for doing this video, just spoke to Robert about the soakshield, he mentioned he was in the process of a flat glass version of the soakshield, maybe you could do a video on it also when it comes available. thanks for the information you provide here on youtube and also on the FB group.
Hey man! Just wanted to let you know your video helped me out a lot! I've never tinted windows before and I'm doing it for the first time for my 73 GMC Motorhome restoration. I had watched a lot of videos and read a lot online but nothing was working. The RV windows were very curved and I was ending up with a lot of bubbles.
After watching your video and using this dry shrink method it worked out very well! A few creases but I was being pretty aggressive with the squeegee at times.
Thanks so much, saved me a bunch of labor cost to install tints and I picked up a new skill. It finally "clicked" after watching this.
For others, some of the most important tips I've picked up as a beginner are:
1.) You can ONLY shrink to the factory-cut edges. Period. It won't work the other way. After tacking down the "H" draw the slack in your top and bottom halves into vertical finger bubbles. Try to keep them vertical as you continue to shrink.
2.) You can make effective slip/application fluid by mixing (~1/4tsp, doesn't need much) baby shampoo with (~1qt) DISTILLED water. Distilled water will not leave water marks or streaks. And it's cheap, pick up a gallon for $1 at the grocery store while you're buying the baby shampoo.
3.) Imagine the tint as a sheet that you're stretching over the glass (cuz it is). When you heat it up, you're taking up slack in that area by shrinking it. Keep pushing the bubbles (the slack) to the edges and keep shrinking as you go. Some bubbles may need more aggressive persuasion with a hard squeegee but be careful not to crease the film. Use the hand method in this video to work out most of the bubbles.
4.) If you need to start over, try to pull the film off before the adhesive starts to dry. If you pull it off and there's adhesive on the glass, it should be soluble in isopropyl alcohol. Pick up some low concentration (50-70%) while you're at the store. You can then use that to dissolve the glue and squeegee it off... it may take some time but it works.
5.) Don't buy the cheapest tint you can find. You'll just be setting yourself up for failure. If you're just getting started you need a quality film that is easier to apply -- don't make it harder for yourself.
Also don't buy 20" x 20" auto-store tint rolls for $40/piece. You can get decent film in bulk online. I got 36" X 50' for about $140. You'll need more than you think.
Tons of good info in your post!
THX MAN THAT'S THE BEST WAY TO SHINK , I'M A TINTER BUT NEVER COULD SHRINK
Wish I would of seen your video first, you make it look so easy. I did the wet method. Not the easiest for the cost time, want necessarily hard, more annoying. Thank you
Wonderful video - I have been trying to teach myself how to tint on my Ford Crown vic and the rear window on this car is extra challenging being so large and curved. After watching your excellent video I will try again using your dry shrink method.
You’re the man. Thank you.
Great video, thank you
+++ Thank you for the video! My son and I wanted to do his Mazda 3 and had watched a few videos on shrinking to fit. We failed hard using a hard card. Using a glove made a big difference for a novice and we were able to get "pro-like" quality from our last attempt.
Very good video. Thank you.
EL MEJOR VIDEO QUE E VISTO EN TODA MI VIDA muchas gracias por eso amigo
Great informative video! Thank you
glad you liked the video and thanks for subscribing!!
Very informative video, thanks
Awesome, very informative and concise video. Thank you very much! 👏👏👏
Only one question: could you please let me know the type of glove that you use? Thank you very much again! 😉😉
What a great video, straight and to the point! Did you wet the dryer sheet beforehand? Seemed like it was wet. I've been tinting my own windows using precut kits for several years, have probably done 20 cars and they've turned out great. I've never been able to get the back glass on a car though, I either scorch or crease the tint. I've tried dry shrinking with baby powder but still no luck. I'll try a dryer sheet.
Try Irish spring soap. Check out the flex film guy Ralph
Nice video Patrick
Love yours video thanks!
the back window always gets me men lol
You make it look so easy😆😆😆😆
I try to do that I fucked up the tint lol
Great video thanks help heaps
Can you post a link to where you purchased the hard card or soft card you used to push and pull the tint as you were heat shrinking it?

Very informative
Glad you think so!
Wow the Film: Lumar ATC that you are using shrinks incredibly well. I bought a 24" X100' roll of 2 ply 1.5mil film off of Amazon to practice with but it does not shrink any where near as good as your Lumar film. Is there a place where a person could buy a roll of the Lumar film?
Probably not Lumar seems to not want to sell to diy types only tinting businesses
What kind of gloves did you use to to shrink? I like this idea I normally use a hard card
they are normal dry shrink gloves that you can get from most window tint tool sites.
44tools.com/kevlar-heat-gloves-pair/ something like these would work just fine
I want to start tinting windows and watched many videos, but some people do it on the inside and you do it on the inside, whats the differences?
Can you make a video about how to shrink sharp curves where the fingers are wide? I’m relatively new to tinting and pretty good at shrinking but I struggle with that part of it
Hint* leave the film long then pull the top or bottom edge of the film where shrinking.
aqui no brasil utilizamos talco para modelagem
Am I right in saying that you can only shrink a certain way like if you have a 1520mm wide film and cut lengthwise it will shrink differently to if you cut width wise?
Yes film is made to shrink in one direction. If you turn the film and shrink the other way most likely it will burn.
How many degrees celsius is set for a heatgun?
hey where i can order lumar film? im tinted windows by using global film, now i wanna try this one.
What kind of glove y'all using
What heat degree was used to shrink on this video more or less
It's so damn hot I forgot to do this and it has bubbles 😂😂😂 good video thank you
Tnx bro..
Hello dude, do you tint the windshield with exactly same process like rear Window?
Yes you shrink windshields with the same process.
I've done complete diy engine tear-downs and rebuilds with no experience, etc. But TINTING A BACK WINDOW is the HARDEST thing I've ever tried to do in my life. Literally. Wtf this suckssss 🤯
Question: What brand tint do you use? I've been using Lexen but curious to try others. This looks like it shrunk nicely.
For what lexen is its good just the coloring could be better
Definitely it depends on the type of tint this one is shrinking to easily
What kind of glove are you using and where can I get one? Thanks 🙏🏾
You can get them from most tint tool sites
You got any tips for beginners
How do you get the fingers up and down? When I lay the film they are all over.
Setting your “H” pattern will guide the fingers up and down.
Does the brand or quality or the film make the shrinking easier?
To a certain point yes. If the film is super cheap and thin (less than 1.5 mils) then shrinking is harder in my opinion. But I know mid grade films that shrink better that top of the line films. It’s the cheap stuff that typically makes it hard to shrink.
hi what brand of window film you use?
In this video I'm using a line from LLumar
What kind of light bar do u use inside the car???
Normally I use a plotter so no need for a light bar. But when I do use a lightbar I love the one I picked up from autozone. black and red long one that cost around $40 and its awesome.
What brand of film are you using? It looks like a good shrink, but that's an easy back glass
+Monique Borruso the film I used in this video was Llumar ATC 15%. The point of the video was not to show a hard shrink but to help get the fundamentals of shrinking down.
Window Tinting Business what is another brand that shrinks well like the llumar brand...i tried using armolan brand but did not shrink well
Can someone tell me what the dryer sheet helps with?
WHICH IS BEST DRY OR WET SHRINK???
Do you think the quality of films affect the shrink?? Because I try to do and no had good result.. Btw excellent video.!!
Yes quality matters. Alot. But skill does too. I suggest wet shrinking for beginners then dry shrinking imo. Great job tho.
@@allmotordc5rallmotorfa575 thanks broth
Can I use this method for the windshield?
Yes you can. I’d leave the top untrimmed so you have the option to pull on the top and shrink if need be.
hi what is gloves made it
Alrite bro almost 2000 subscriber's
very close to 2000!! my goal was 1800 by this October so the channel is growing much faster than I anticipated to be honest. As long as I'm helping people get better that's the main goal.
What type of glove are you using
Standard shrinking glove that you can get from a tool supplier. But any glove will do that doesn't have those little plastic grips on the fingers.
WHERE I CAN PURCHASE ONE OF THOSE GLOVES???
Could you tell mewhy you have to shrink the tint? This is new to me?
The window tint is flat (like wrapping paper) and auto glass is curved (like a basket ball). You have to shrink the film before install so it will fit correctly. If not they it wont lay flat against the glass and will look horrible.
How do you avoid getting fingers on the side while heat shrinking
Do a H patern on the side with your soft card.Remember the tint can only shrink up or down never side ways.
What is the advantage of a dryer sheet?
S9 that is glides and you can smooth it down.
Otherwise it would be to firm on the glass and you would crease a lot more.
Just finished tinting school. Haha
What's best squeeque for cleaning the side swiper??
you can use any squeegee really. I just like using the side swipe because it has a lot of coverage, cleans more in shorter time.
Window Tinting Business rite on
Window Tinting Business I had an old yellow turbo and was getting dirty work had to get new one...black ones work better
Do you have the dryer sheet wet or dry?
Wet down the dryer sheet the rub all over back window then let enough time to dry completely before you start shrinking.
How hot of setting on that heat gun 1200 1500???
high setting on this gun is 1200
What size tint you use for the back window
Or what size you recommend
+kendrick Lamar I would suggest 40 inch rolls so it's wide enough to cover the back window and cut the side Windows also.
What is the purpose of dryer sheet? Can't we just dry it with just a dry cloth?
The purpose of the dryer sheet is to stop static cling. This way the film floats over the glass for a more even shrink.
What is temperature of shrinking?
no one mentions this! Cant believe that
I've just burn my back tint and ruined it, am I set the heat gun temperature too high?
No I wouldn't say that. I would say to keep the heat gun moving in circular patterns and move the heat gun farther away from the tint. You'll find that there is a good distance that works perfectly, not so close that you'll burn the film but not so far that you can't heat the film to its shrinking point.
Window Tinting Business Yeah thx for the reply. I've just done it with a new tint and it was my second time of shrinking and it's getting better, but still with few crease. Anyway it's just getting better.
I'm trying to understand why do u shrink it instead of just cutting it to shape? It may be a dumb question
You can't cut out wrinkles.
What it's the purpose of doing that?
Seriously??
My hard card is scratching back glass why do you think thats happening
What's the name of ur film ???
Where can I buy high quality tint
You can't. You need to be a distributor.
I'm interested to know why the tint goes on the outside. I always thought it went on the inside.
You just form it on the outside but it is installed on the inside of the windows
Omg I need to get paid for that question
@@cnes84 same
This has to be some super high quality tint... Not for ppl who are on the tight budget and have $25 tint from eBay...
This is a high quality film that I'm using but there are a lot of affordable films from creditable manufactures, just don't buy from ebay or amazon. Buy direct from a manufacturer and you can get 40 inch by 100 foot rolls for as low as $140ish.
@@WindowTintingBusiness what are some decent brands you recommend that wont break the bank like you say and are kinda close to professional quality? great vid btw
James Blyth Johnson window film & global should fall within that range
@@WindowTintingBusiness awesome ill check them out. i just subbed. ty for quick reply
@@WindowTintingBusiness hey patrick im trying out express window films (same as global apparently) its looking real good. can i ask you one more question? i dont want to have to buy a tint solution online since im just doing my own vehicle for now as practice. what do you recommend or does it make a big difference anyways. regular dawn dish soap or jj baby shampoo? i hear good about both so i have no clue lol.
i always use a bar of soap
I hear that's a good method also I've personally have never tired it. maybe I should give it a shot.
Window Tinting Business it works supper good bro. better tham heat shaping spray and everything. i get a rag wrap it around the bar of soap wet it were the bar is scrub the back glass and let it dry till it leaves a whitish ash behind
1. Tint the outside? 2. No adhesive on the tint?
He forms the film to the glass on the outside, then cuts it to size after. Then will peel the relief sheet and lay it on the inside
You make this so easy what you should do is tell us as a professional the temperature on the heating gun and more not just actually doing it and thinking we going to get it by showing us but Cool video
I explained that this was a standard wagner heat gun that can be purchased at any home depot. everyone's heat gun is different thats why I didn't get too much into it. ALL heat guns no matter the brand will be able to get hot enough to shrink film.
Patrick, first let me say I appreciate your making these videos and yes its a standard wagner gun, all heat guns may get hot enough but the volume of air the gun is moving is also important to cover a large enough area so as not to over heat one spot.
I don’t know about popping door panels I see lot of tinter not even removing which means mad skills ,no offense.
You make this look far too easy! I’ve been trying to shrink my back glass and it seems to move similar to yours, so I glide my hand across and it won’t stick down. Apply a little more heat and then it bunches together like the back side side of a crunch bar... it doesn’t burn or anything just almost looks like it bubbles without any damage to the tint
The trick is that the film won't just stick down when it shrinks. You have to move the extra slack away from where you just shrunk the film. Work it slowly at a steep angle towards the edge and the film should tighten up in that area. Kind of like pulling a sheet over a bed (but dragging it with a squeegee or your hand instead of pulling on the edge). Then shrink the area you just moved the slack to. Keep doing that until the bubbles are gone.
Why is it on the outside? In uk im sire its on the inside and has a stupid film cover u have to peel off why applying it which makes the film crease before u get near the window lol
this is just shrinking the film not the install. You need to form it to the glass before installation.
Window Tinting Business so after the heat process i just watched i can peel the clear film away then wet the inside and stick to the window?
Wait, shouldn't you do the tint on the inside to avoid damage to the soft film? I'm a bit confused?!?
Ignorance on my part, so I am asking --- Why are you tinting on the outside? What keeps snow, ice, etc from causing damage to the tint
He’s heat shrinking the tint on the outside to mold it to the shape of the window. Then the tint is applied to the inside. He only demonstrated the heat shrinking here.
i could never do the back its to hard because of the fingers, the back window is to curvy(ek civic). What could i do to improve.
I personally think that dry shrinking is much easier and better. If you're dry shrinking and have the right tools then the rest is experience and time. It takes time to get used to how much heat to put on the film, too much and you'll burn it too little and it doesn't shrink. Most films will hold up on most cars, until you get to really curvy windows like a charger, bug, GTI, etc.
Just keep practicing and it will come. If you're shrinking and you mess up on a window and crease it just keep going and shrink the entire window the practice will be good for you.
thanks
also christopher if you do crease the film there is a method you can use to heat the film and remove the crease, just depends on the severity of the crease, i think Patrick shows this method in one of his videos, if its not him it may have been Ralph Van Pelt, but watch as many videos as you can and practice practice practice
Seems some tint doesn’t shrink so easily
This is true. Some shrink better than others but they all have the same basic fundamentals.
i creased the fuck out of all my tint.. I don't get it
How the hell you just put the gun over it and it just perfectly shrinks... Wow
Dry is easier
so much easier...
I suck at shrinking😡
Check out this video I did. At the 17 min mark I talk about a new technique I've been working on specifically for new tinters to help them shrink back windows.
