Mk3.5 Focus: How to Fit ST/RS Headlights on an SE (Install & Coding)

  • With the car seeing so much night time use given our short winter days, it made sense to upgrade the front-end lighting for better visibility. A set of OEM ST/RS headlights offer a substantial improvement over the SE halogens, but there's a tiny bit more to the install than just plugging them in.
    A big thank-you to Brian (@thehumblegeek) for the coding assistance, and software!

      thank you for your video, It support me a lot in upgrade my Focus Trend MK 3.5 HID headlight. For Ford Focus in Vietnam, the forscan have setting in headlight, type: "GDL advanced front lighting system with static bending, without levelling (Xenon-NAS)" so the the warning gone :D so happy with it.

    @7tep 2 місяці тому

    7:38 that warning can be removed. There's another setting that needs to be changed. I don't remember if it was in IPC module or BCM additional settings

    Sorry I put a comment just a second ago but I had to erase it after I found out I posted it in the wrong spot.
    You know if you go back into forscan and go to I think it's the BCM under I think central configuration go to the warnings/ Chimes and you can actually turn that light off so the orange I will not be there no more

      At the time of this recording the software did not allow for that light to be touched so anyone doing the swap would have it on as a result.

    I'm sorry I'm committing so much I did not know what the emergency brake light was I thought when I tried it it was just when you hit the brake it made your light flash until I seen your video tonight and I went and changed mine, I went and found my local empty parking lot (little side note my brakes do not like you) after about the fifth stab of my brakes of different speeds it finally worked I was like oh yeah you're right I think I finally was at like 4555 and I jabbed them and they worked

    Hey I commented already. but I just wanted to clarify that those 3 steps/ changes stated in the video were the only 3 needed to run the headlights properly?

    Hello !
    I am asking for help
    I have a Focus trend with halogen headlights and I bought original biXenon headlights
    after coding, low beams, parking lights and indicators work, but high beams (biXenon ramp) does not work. How can I solve this problem?
    it gives me an error on the dashboard but it is not a problem currently and I know that I don't have cornering lights, which is also not a problem
    High beams are important to me and I don't know how to enable it ??
    Thank you

      Given you noted "Focus Trend" I'll assume you're not in North America?
      There may be coding differences across the different markets and unfortunately we wouldn't know the exact process for non-NA vehicles since we can't dig into them ourselves. As outlined in the video and article the steps will enable the lights for an NA car; for yours you may need to check with owners local to yourself to see what steps you require.

    Hey, I just recently bought the st headlights for my sedan. I just got the OBD reader, and I am going to do the whole FORScan coding thing this week. I already have the headlights installed on my car. When the key is in the start position the lights work as they should without any coding (as seen in your video) but as soon as I turn the engine on the DRL and Side marker lights only work not the High or Low Beam. DID YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WHEN YOU STARTED YOUR ENGINE??? Also, when you're done changing what you need to change on FORScan is there any steps after that or can I just close out forscan, unplug from my car and go on with my day.? Please respond, Thanks!

      The coding is required for the lights to work as they would from factory, so you'll experience concerns until it's completed. Update it, save it, and unplug the computer.

    What about a mk3 with factory HID to mk3.5 HIDs guide? Because I have a titanium plus trim here in Thailand (2013 mk3 ofcourse) But I facelifted my car with mk3.5 RS headlight. And only thing that is not work is high beam doesn't work at all.

      We haven't performed that exact swap ourselves, and don't know offhand someone who has. There may be coding and equipment differences between our cars and yours too unfortunately.

    I have a Thai built, sold in Australia mk3.5 Focus Sport and I have alway regretted not getting the HID headlights. I'm glad to see that it is simple enough. Will you have a permanent error on the info display? Also do the covering lights and levelling work?

    • @officialTHREETWENTYdotcom
      @officialTHREETWENTYdotcom  2 роки тому

      There will be a permanent information light on the dash (see 7:11 for that) as cornering will not work in our case, and sadly North American cars didn't receive auto leveling lights at all.

    The headlight you bought, does it have autoleveling? may I know the source where I can buy those?
    I already bought in UK because i like the one without an amber on the side. i ended up in retrofitting it because I do not know how to make the HID works, the retrofit shop cut my original harness just to make it work. Too bad i just saw this video only today.
    But planning to buy another one. i just want to make sure if the hi beam will work

    I still get the headlight service light after breaking a clip on the connecting harness clip/plug. Haha it’s really annoying to have to select and click okay on every start up. Anyway to erase that in forscan? 2017 Ford Focus ST/2 (USDM) Jw

      We've not found a way to disable the warning, nor have we seen evidence of anyone else turning it off.

      So I’m pretty much suck trying to repin the connector piece? I can’t remember if it was the connection point on the harness or a tab on my headlight it’s self.

    Hi. I'm looking to do this on a friend car. (and i'm using mine as wiring example).My question to you regarding the swap is, wouldn't be possible to put the HCM module under the steering wheel column, and don't get that error code? maybe you have the plug for it in the harness loom. Another friend did exactly as you and his dipped beam doesn't work. I didn't so your also. It's fully working (without the leveling and cornering) ?

    • @officialTHREETWENTYdotcom
      @officialTHREETWENTYdotcom  2 роки тому

      Our research showed that the harnesses are different between the versions of the cars, so unfortunately there would be nowhere to plug the module in as the car stands currently.
      And yes, it is! Our bad for failing to get it on video but the low/high beam switchover works perfectly on the car.
