Why You Should Paint Your Walls, Trim, & Ceiling All the Same Color | ✨Details in Description✨

- Painting Tips 👇🏻
• Use different sheens (walls - flat or eggshell, ceilings - flat, and trim - satin or semi-gloss)
• Always sample your paint before making a final decision. I paint 2 coats on a poster board from the dollar store.
• If you don’t want the ceiling too dark, you can get the color at 50%. This will still look much more cohesive than the flat white ceiling paint.
If you’re struggling to pick out paint colors for a project I share paint inspiration on Mondays ☺️ You can download my no fail neutrals & I offer paint color consultation services if you need help choosing a color palette. ✨🔗 in bio ✨

This ONLY works in rooms that have lots of moulding on walls and at the top of walls, rooms with high ceilings and large windows. An average home without certain architectural details would look cheap if painted like this.
Finally someone gets it! I tell people all the time when you look at these inspo pics, look at what that room has that yours does not. I dont mean easily obtainable features like lamps and drapes. Its the architectual detail that really makes the space. The house practically designs itself when you have those details.
You’re right
Completely agree !! All those homes are decked out with trim and a ton of crown molding ,plus high ceilings. It would look like a hot mess on a standard home. That dark looks gorgeous on the "outlander"set, not a standard home build😂
And only good with high ceilings.
depends on the color, if you do lame colors the yeah but it's nice with some more interesting colors even on uninteresting rooms
Looks like they hired a landlord
Omg this comment 😂😂😂😂😂 so true
Lmao!!!! 😂😂😂😂
Hahaha
😂😂😂
Property management 101
I did hire an interior designer and my walls trim and ceilings are now all the same color, with eggshell finish on the walls and ceiling and satin on the trim. It’s amazing.
What type of ceilings do you have (texture, height)? Do you have trim as well?
I did this to my small bathroom! Getting ready to repaint it more traditionally...
😅 lol. Bold, you were.
I think in the right spaces, this works. I had odd rounded ceilings on one wall by the windows, the distinct ceiling kine made the room feel shorter and drew your eye to the shorter celing line. So I painted The ceiling and wall same color. It was the right choice. Looks so much better! ❤
Unfortunately my home already looks like I could not afford a designer so I don’t think I would fool anyone… 😂
Don’t paint ceilings with any paint that has a sheen to it including satin or eggshell. It shows every flaw, and causes that reflection that doesn’t look right
This wouldn't work with a cookie cutter home or an apartment. As a former maintenance man I've seen all kinds of trends. You have to consider the space. Notice her examples are mostly old architecture or open spaces. Be mindful of your areas people.
No flipping way would I do that in my no frills 80’s two bed townhouse.
Was considering doing this in my living room in a dark green, does it look silly if it’s a smaller home? Can’t picture it in my head
@@laheldoll8142 I did a room in a light blue color and the ceiling I did in 2 shades lighter, it looks like a white ceiling. As far as dark green goes, I'd go a shade lighter no more but idk if this trick would work in your case, I'd have to see the space
I am doing this to my bedroom now. Loving it so far.
I did that in the foyer and bathroom. I love it!!
Don't like it
Electric outlet too😂
😂🤣😆
Personally, I don’t care for colored walls and ceilings not this degree. It looks haunting with darker colors. I like the more open feel that white or off white brings or an khaki type color. It looks clean and crisp.
It looks amazing.
Simply don’t do it.
Or do what you want
I painted my small bathroom all white it looks so good
The doors trims ceiling all the same colour so much easier and it looks great
What white did you use ?
In a bathroom, yes 👍
Me, too! 🥰
Love it...white looks very French. Dark paint very English and traditional. You're right, the contrast between the white baseboards and different color walls looks very basic.
I like the white ceilings 🤷
I like the all blue piano room. Alot. Also like the ceiling molding and artwork. Took a screenshot and am going to copy.
Good tip 👍
It creates drama with more molding. Add more molding!
I am about to do that to my small sitting room which is going to be a library. It already has a woodheater in it so it's going to look good
Pass
Love it
also requires tons of natural light if you are going to use darker tones
You just don't want to use painter's tape or cut in with a brush. That's probably it 😅.
I always wanted to do this. I’m about to paint my living room all the same color and my family thinks I’m crazy
I was going to do my walls and trim the same color, but use a semigoss on the trim, eggshell on the walls.
Thoughtful choice doing this combination. Semigloss trim stands out a hint more, and it's more scuff resistant.
I did this in my room. I painted my ceiling trim and walls black and added more trim on the wall (kind of like the first example photo) I also added tall plants and load of greenery my floor is white and black tiles ( idc i love it lol)
As I read that you painted it all black, in my head I have that Rolling Stones Paint It Black song 🎵 playing along. Sounds bold, elegant, and chic. 🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍
White paint offers you an illusion of space.
If you're working in a smaller space, immediately will make it feel larger.
If you're working in a large space, it will open it up even more.
That's because darker colors absorb light, while white paint reflects light, making the walls appear to be receding.
Well, actually, she said that the white makes the room look "larger" and the dark ("moody") colors make the room look "cozy"....and we all know that "cozy" equals "small".
if you use a semi gloss paint and have a good amount of natural light (windows on two or three sides of your room), dark paint can actually make your room seem bigger. that's why you need to paint everything the darker color, as keeping trim and ceilings light breaks up that illusion and chops the room instead of creating a cohesive space.
Good .
All white save time and money looks great
Wish u were here I want to paint and dont know what to do 😂
Wow. I Was Thinking to Do Black Ceilings. But, I Will Do This Instead! My Walls Are Already This Exact Same Color! This is Beautiful 😍😍😍😍😍
I wish I painted my moulding the same colour. I painted my walls dark green (jade sea) and ultra white baseboards and ceiling trim. It looks really good with my natural wood ceilings and floors but OMG it was hard to paint.
I am an interior designer and well she’s not wrong lol
Does it work in small rooms with no molding?
@@Real.Flowers.no.
YES ❤
Thank you 🙌🏻
And it's way easier than a 3 tone I love doing one tone good advice
Wow immediate follow
This looks awful in the average home. Please listen to the comment about needing high ceilings, big windows, and lots of trim. Otherwise this just looks like somebody only had the budget for one paint color.
I disagree. I used this in my house where the trim wasn’t that great, it blends with the room rather than draws attention to it. Which I like much better
I noticed this technique in a couple of TV show sets. It looks unfinished.
Just learn to cut in and stop painting everything the same bloody colour
Do you have any videos talking about wall trims?
What about if my ceiling is only 9 feet high? Also I want the cove- crown moldings to stand out! Any suggestions?? Maybe have lighter shade of ceiling?
What’s the color behind you? I need to get paint over to the painters ASAP
What is the dark moodily blue in your 2nd or 3rd photo? Trying to choose moody color for attic bedroom
Calling the landlord special interior design 💀
What does this mean
Landlord special just means a lazy repair job (for example slapping the same paint for everything) @@dreamie9868
That last example looked kind of ghetto fab
It's more magaziney and less real life. Might work for a place with tons of moulding but it's gonna be tacky elsewhere.
So you gotta paint all the rooms the same color? How else would one achieve a cohesive look throughout the home?
I was thinking this
Make it a prison cell as seen here
@@pinkroses135 You bunking?
@@jordyjustine yes
God, no. Matter of fact, look at any new home model these days...the reason why they look so fantastic is that they DON'T do this!
So you mean painting all with the same finish too?
No No No! As a professional painter, I do MANY repaints on this sort of thing. It might be nice for awhile but ot will grow old and very fast.
This.
Wait a minute. Repaints mean you're always in demand 🤑. Maybe this paint it all one color idea came from someone that didn't want to use painter's tape or cut in with a proper brush? 😅 It looks so DIY didn't want to do any extra anything. Having said that, all white rooms can look timeless. It's paint so, if someone wants to express themselves doing all one color, enjoy! Also, enjoy repainting it, ha ha. I've done my fair share of impulsive room painting that I immediately repainted. Prep work is soooo important. Getting sample paint also matters.
.......mr bean has a special technique for this😂😂
What if my wall and ceiling are white?
That’s a total different case…it will give you an illusion of open space.
Nah
What about the floors, carpets and furniture???
Paint them tooo!!! Harrr
I don't know about "looks like you hired a professional" more like "whose the amateur"
Word up! Hideous looking unless you are an Addams 🤪
It tends to look a little ghetto. But it would save a lot of money if you do this.
😂 no contrast and I paint
Lmao the fact that she chose this song despite the lyrics is hilarious. Wide Open space indeed
Shit we used to paint apartments in the ghetto of Pontiac Mich, We would run in there n spray everything the vents the switch plates everything 😂.. that's what it looks like.. didn't know we were professionals
😂
😂 seemless
No. I did that. Blech!
I love it. Blech?
@@justhaleyhomes it might be the color but it looks like it has no personality. I personally did not do it. It is my rental property I own and “it makes things easier to paint if renters mess up the walls.” According to my contractor. It looks like it is all stucco. All of it. Next renters can enjoy painting whatever they want within reason.
How does candle wax get on the ceiling? Lolol.
no
My wife hates this idea
Yucky nope
NO....JUST NO
Yes 🙌🏻 ☺️
No way. You have tons of amazing woodwork, why would you paint your expensive and beautiful library paneling like that?
Paint all that trim in a high gloss bright white before i have a conniption fit.
This is just preposterous and k in the name of all that is holy WHY would you not want accemt your amazing trim work and take the clean and sharp deaign out if your walls?
Nooooooo!!!!!!!
Nom
JESUS CHRIST SAVES AND HE TRULY LOVES YOU ALL!!! ✝️✝️✝️❤️♾️
Why do you skip to a complete different room. Show what it would look like in the first photo you showed please. It would reflect what a normal house without molding ect would look like. Sure it looks great when you have lots of architectural design and molding to highlight. I’d really like to know how this would look in my home
Commenting nothing on the design eye, but the difference between a professional paint job and an amateur paint job is MASSIVE. If you want to go this design route, hire a professional to do the painting.
I see this done all the time in big beautiful homes. It looks very sophisticated in person!
I build those big beautiful homes and in the Philly suburbs this would be considered a landlord special.
Sophisticated 😅
Until it looks terrible which it will.
Looks like someone want save time. Nope not nice.
Forgot to mention that makes you look cheap
Makes it look larger? Wrong. Sorry. White lid, earth tone walls, all white trim is what makes a room look bigger
That's the worst advice ever. Looks freaking terrible.
girly, NOOO
I wouod, but I'm not Wednesday Addams.
This design is for people with 9-12 ft ceilings. Some of us have 7 ft ceilings, honey
BAD IDEA..
Coming from a painter it just looks lazy!
LOL This is terrible advice for the masses.
My mom did this a few years ago. It looks like she was drunk and lazy. Looks terrible.
Oh. No thank you.
Looks dated
Looks awful. Don't wanna feel like I'm In a dungeon
I feel like this looks lazy LOL
And cheap
@@johnphilyaw9043 yeah makes it look like you are either super uncreative or like that paint color was on clearance! Haha
This is going to look so dated in a year.
One more dumb advice from a random person
This is a joke, right?
No.
Its a no from me dawg
Drama and streess
NO!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂NO!!! Do NOT listen to her! 😂
This only works on high end homes with a Ton of crown molding. In an average home, no to the ghetto!😅
Hell no
Pretty clear she doesn't know what she's talking about. Or maybe she just grew up wealthy... 😏
That just ruins the whole point of trim work 😂 stupid
I cant tell you how many houses I looked at and DIDN'T buy because of this AWFUL theme ...the thought of having to go in and paint all the ATROCIOUS ceilings wasn't on my "to do" list. Ugly and awful.
Nah don’t look good at all sorry
