I must say, seeing Preach and Jesse be so hyped up for Dawntrail is infectious. Like if those two could jump up and down and scream how excited they were, they look like they would do it. It definitely helped that they bonded over the previous Final Fantasy games before going into the Dawntrail trailer talk.

Honestly though, you gotta admit it's a good way to force the WoL to actually behave. And the fact that it gets such an intense reaction from the player is a good sign

Omg, the way preach described the team moving the studio furniture around, it genuinely sounds like Yoshi-P was the one nervous and excited about finally getting a chance to be part of one of Preach's interviews not the other way around. "He's seen your other interviews and wants a similar setup". That just feels... so surreal.
Who wouldn't be nervous when the Floor Inspector arrives?
Um, sure. Or maybe after doing Los Angeles he realized how "stiff" the other interviews may appear? Also, Quazii and Jesse don't do regular interviews that way, but if they did maybe YoshiP would have had something to compare it to. Preach had something to compare it to and YoshiP is a thoughtful person.

To be honest, Ascians are such a huge interconnected piece to ffxiv lore. It's kind of unavoidable, maybe not as a focal point, but probably mentioned in passing.
It's the legacy we have been left. What does it mean, for the Ascians to be gone? We can explore it.

Having completed DT, it's interesting hearing the speculations and how right (or hillariously wrong) they are.

Love how everyone feels so hype about expansion
A theory I have had since we learned we can time travel as canon (and a bit before but I really started cooking with it then) is that we go back in time and help Louisoix defeat Bahamut and become a primal. Because he didn't temper anyone and we know that summoning a primal doesn't have to temper people, as of EW, so we can help out with that, but of course we don't remember that we did any of that because we lost our memory like everyone else. So we are the Warrior of Light that people remember (and I know that those are a callback to the 1.0 players too, but if can still make sense for the game). I know there are probably holes in this theory, but I like it and when I heard Mage talk about time travel shenanigans I remembered this again 😃😆

I am predicted everywhere online that I can that my prediction for the new expac story... Let me say this: Alolan Eikons.
I realize I might be in the minority on this one but in general I am fine with main characters not being killed. I find that often times character deaths are a crutch writers will use to get an easy reaction from the audience. If a team of writers are really creative there are so many other forms of trauma that can be deeply emotional and effective. For example, with Thrancred not dying in ShB he instead get's to come to terms with his guilt over Minfilia and realizes what he should have been doing all along was helping Ryne forge her own path. Could that have been accomplished with his death there? Possibly. But I then we would miss out on his character growth after that which I find way more interesting.
While that is true that death in fiction can be used as a crutch, isn't it a bit strange how the characters can endure so much, even going to the end of the whole universe, and come out alive? Every single dangerous thing they've done they have been fine, Y'shtola surviving one of the most dangerous forbidden spells TWICE. I think it's more about them risking entering the territory of there feeling like no real stakes. They still lean on the losses of Haurchefant, Ysayle and Moenbryda even today because of the lack of other losses to lean on story wise.
@@jameslitz9819 Oh I don't totally disagree on that point. Just personally it doesn't bother me cause I would rather see characters grow from these events. Now if these events had happened and there was no plot or emotional payoff I would be 100% behind you.
And one thing I think most of can agree on, and it was brought up by one of the guests (can't remember which), eventually something is going to give. Either eventually a plot moment will demand it or someone will want to no longer voice a character (another 10 years is a long time).
Now all this is largely up to personal preference and I completely understand where the other side is coming from. Also I don't trust how much Yoshi-P is knowingly smiling when he tells us to have a nice summer vacation. Very sus.
There’s a quote from Oda (the author of One Piece) that’s always stuck with me
“I don’t like to kill characters; because then there’s fewer faces at the end-of-arc barbecue party.”
And while One Piece CAN kill characters, most of the time they don’t, and it’s so they can be used again later. I think XIV wouldn’t have as many people calling for character deaths if the characters who were alive did more than just show up for cameos most of the time.
@@jameslitz9819 I think it makes more sense that they came out alive from going to the end of the universe BECAUSE of all the struggles they've gone through and coming out alive. That was the message that Hydaelyn was trying to instill in humans since the beginning. Living through those harrowing experiences gives the scions the indomitable human spirit to overcome the cruel indifference of the universe itself. That's why Hydaelyn tests our resolve before sending us off to our final encounter.
It's not that Scions shouldn't die. It's that they're strong enough already to avoid dying to most things, and each of them have too much they care about that they will not recklessly throw their lives away for unless the situation specifically calls for their sacrifice.

I see the remaining Ascians as story seeds they can pull from when appropriate. The story doesn't NEED them now, and there's absolutely no risk of rejoinings anymore (if they were so easily achieved Emet and Elidibus wouldn't have felt their objectives were impossible without they themselves at the helm), but they do exist and they DO still matter, as the Eden storyline (and Amon to an extent) showed.
I feel angry that I watched this, because Jesse and Preach's story forecast make so much sense, I feel spoiled!!!! 🤣 Awesome roundtable, everyone!
Coming back to this after completing DT and woow. My decision to not watch Launch Trailers continues to be affirmed but now I get to come back for the THEORIES ❤
For Kingdom Hearts, I remember playing 1 and 2 as a kid. Didn't know what was happening but whatever they said sounded cool. So when I replayed it as an adult, I found out about all the others. I immediately went "fuck it, i'm playing 1 & 2 and making up my own headcannon for everything else" lmao
Thancred in Shadowbringers was a 10/10 absolutely perfect Death scene
I think part of the reason Godzilla Minus One won the Oscar for Best VFX is because of all the invisible VFX throughout the movie. They posted an official behind-the-scenes breakdown of it on UA-cam. I recommend checking it out because it definitely blew my mind.

On killing the twins I talked to my gf about it and she said something that I really agree with. She pointed out that the most interesting character development would be to kill Alphie to see how Ali grows from that, but they wont kill him (I'm pretty sure he is Yoshi-Ps fav and also the protagonist if it wasn't the WoL) and it wouldn't be as interesting to see Alphie without Ali since we did already see that in HW (even if sure she wasn't dead but he has had character development without her there and even if you can argue Ali had some in SB and in the patches after SB it was not really the same since it was usually in the context of "we are doing this with scions" not "oh we don't even know if there are any scions left but us").
Also honestly I don't want to "lose" their VAs now with Colin streaming and many of the VAs joining him on the stream 😅
1:29:30 Jesse's idea had me question a quote from the trailer a bit more, presumably from the blue lizard man. "Our nation is a fortress, our people the bricks from which it is built."
Fortresses are meant to protect something. If your people are the wall, then what is being guarded inside?

On the topic of 'kids going to battle school' I hope everyone gives FF Type 0 a look, enough to at least do one playthrough. Even without all the hidden lore, the context you get that first time culminates so well for that 1st ending.

I'm not sure what Garret is talking about. Has Nanamo even had any story since 4.1 other than being at the same meetings with the others?
It felt like Merlywb was the main character of 5.4. Kan-e-senna hasn't done anything other than chair meetings since, like, 2.2
BTW it's not just Sailer Moon, it's a general henshin shojo storyline vibe. My wife and I watch Pre-cure in Japanese and also noticed that it was basically just a new Pre-cure season, one of the good ones that's for the older kids and not the toddler trash seasons lol
I would love if solution 9 was a mix of both shards and the digital would idea.
I think that right before the 12th, the lightning aspected shard, the shard that was rejoined during the 2nd calamity, was rejoined, the maiden created a digitalscape on a digital ark. You can of course enter this digitalscape through the door.
She could only save so many people, however in order to save as many people as possible, solution 9 was created. When you enter solution 9, your souls digitize with the main reason being to avoid you from being rejoined with your source counterpart. So when the 2nd rejoining was about to occur, the maiden rallied as many people as possible and got them into solution 9, and ferried those now digital souls to the source, with solution 9 being an ark.
I’m not putting any weight on that last trailer line ‘til I see it in game. I still remember how everyone was freaking out about the last line in the EW launch trailer, and that turned out to be literally nothing.
Final fantasy 8 by way of Evangelion:
Gendo Ikari (played by Robin Williams) and his wife Lilith train some eventually amnesiac orphans to be able to defeat Rei's great-times-100 granddaughter, who wants to commit 3rd Impact & Instrumentality at the same time, thus dividing all of existence by zero.
Squall=Shinji but with existential angst & an inability to be emotionally open to others instead of having a nervous breakdown from all the pressure being heaped upon him.
Kaworu still has a fixation on Shinji, but less creepy. Think Pokémon, Ash vs Gary.
My tinfoil hat theory....
Venat made a comment about stepping down as Azem for our WoL Azem version, because we were better suited to the role. What if instead of just being a traveler of geography, we are a master of time travel. Maybe this is the point in time where we learn how to time travel at will. My ultimate theory is that we live out our days as the WoL, then travel back to Amarout and become the Azem that Vanat steps down for.
What I would LOVE to see (because I am not done with the ancients/ascians) is that for the next few expacs we meet, help and befriend the remaining ascians. Maybe we get ahold of those memory crystals of the 14 that we left with Elidibus. THEN the next big bad comes (maybe things begin to unravel after Zodiark and Hydalyn are gone), and we need to reunify the original Convocation of 14 to help us fix the problem. Instead of fighting them, we have to figure out how to unite them in time and space to figure things out.
Last crazy theory that has been bugging me for awhile. When the Final Days occurred in our time, everyone said they heard a noise UNDER the earth, then things started falling apart. I don't think that was Meition's doing,. I think whatever made that sound changed the aether so she COULD do her worst. What if that is some crazy Labraha invention that claws its way out of the earth (leaving gouge marks on mountains in Tural?), and that's what we need the Convocation of 14 to help us fight in 8-10 years time.

Wait a minute. Is the reason Brandihild looks the way he does is a foreshadowing to what Jesse said about his theory for the Golden Gate/Solution 9? If Brandihild was foreshadowing that, these devs are actually insane in the best way possible.

Havent seen Sailor Moon nor do I know which ones, the oldest or newer ones that are being compared to Endwalker, but I have seen Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and from the spaceship flight up to defeating Endsinger is straight out of the final episodes of TTGL
Not just that, but the Moon being an arc for humanity, Forchenault’s plan being almost identical to Rossieu’s, the Lopporits hitting you with a “hail fellow well met”
It was TTGL top to bottom, down to the fist fight at the end.

That thing they fight in the trailer, with the wings and long neck looks quite a bit like a greater demon of Tzeench from Warhammer 40K. And the flying things are a bit like Dark Eldar on those spiked hover boards. Warhammer 40K crossover! :P
For the Endwalker = Sailor Moon video, have Emet throw an Elips flower instead of a rose. It's right there! :D

I do think we might get a lore distinction between ascians and surviving people of ethrys. Cause we see even though he isn't the best example, fandanial doesnt like the ascians goal. What's stopping a more stable minded one from saying emets plan is wacko and doing thier own thing.
I've a horrible feeling Blue Mage will get a sudden out-of-the-blue relevance in this expansion. We are travelling to the land of Blue Magery, after all? I suspect Pictomancer and Viper are deflections. It'll be one of those whole sniggering "remember that class you totally neglected and decided wasn't an actual job... You're all going to have to do it!"
The yellow pice inside the hourglass in the launch trailer looks a lot like The Marker from Deadspace, I hope we get some really cool twisted Deadspace weirdness with that 😂

The digital preservation and facade theory matches with the plot of FF9 (which this expansion is heavily inspired from) which was all about an elder race preserving themselves in an ark and manipulating the people to kill themselves so they can all be revived and take the world.
I kind of hope that's not the plot because it is way too similar to the ascian plot. Hopefully they put some twist on it if so. That said, most FF games have very similar plots with a different story to explain it.

I love puzzle solving dungeons played a lot of Zelda and Dungeons and Dragons Online MMO back in the day and having multiple routes, puzzles and secrets to find making variant dungeons the best kind of dungeon

suggestion: next time you guys do a roundtable/podcast like this, always reserve a "square" for a browser screen. so you can load up videos with ease, or screenshots or articles, or even art or pictures. it's an easy way for watchers to know what the "supposed" topic on-hand is about, and could easily give the panel a focus on what to cook about. so no future mid podcast obs re-tooling.

I love him but Alisae is clearly a character who deals with anger a lot, and it migh5 actually make for an interesting arc if we dealt with Alisae going down some sort of vengeance path. Oh God! Preach's hypothesis of Tulliyolal being the fake landscape and being the simulation instade of the golden city and everything vanishing leaving a desolate landscape mid-game is MIND BLOWING! Let's see how the game subverts my expectations with this idea in my mind, haha.
