    My father is Danish. He immigrated to Australia when he was 10 and was forced to assimilate so he lost the language before he married and had children. But he always impressed us by saying rødgrød med fløde. I still can’t get my English tongue around it 🤣

    In WW2, the Danish government needed to stop German spies, so whenever someone tried to pass, the border guards would make them say "rødgrød med fløde". If they couldn't pronounce it, then they weren't Danish and were likely German spies.

    Hysterical! Thank you. For all these years I was turned off by the word 'porridge.' My Danish Bestefar never told me that it was made with raspberries! I assumed it was made like cream of wheat or oatmeal, which I always hated. I DID know that RodGrod med Flode was a test of the non-Danish tongue and my Danish Mom used to be tormented by my American Dad deliberately mispronouncing it. Thank you for your wonderful video, and the eye-opening clarification. :)

    This looks so tasty! But... I do have a question.
    What if a foreigner is able to say *Rødgrød med fløde* correctly?

    • @mtbcookingen9102
      @mtbcookingen9102  2 роки тому +6

      It happens once in a while, and in that case Danes are very good at congratulating the foreigner (since it is a difficult task). So that only evokes admiration 😊

      @@mtbcookingen9102 Good thing that's the first thing I taught myself in Danish. That, and the soft D sound. 😂

      Extremely easy to cook but pronunciation is so complicated. As a non-native,I feel the similarities btw its look and articulation are mud in bog,though delicious.😅😅😅😊😊😊

      @@kongraweekun9376 Oh it's amazing, absolutely to die for. And I decided to learn the more complicated sounds of Danish first so as to try and give myself an advantage. I can confidently say Rødgrød med fløde perfectly.

    hey there, 80 grams of sugar seems a little too high for my liking, is it ok to reduce it as much as i want?

    • @mtbcookingen9102
      @mtbcookingen9102  8 днів тому

      Yes, you could do that if you want to :-) Add less sugar at a time, and see when it reaches a sugar amount, which suits your taste buds 😊

    I am disappointed now. Always thought that this was made with some kind of red oatmeal.
