Gorgeous and meticulous. May I suggest an easy additional step? A diagonal line across all the strips makes it easy to spot out-of-order errors! I learned this trick as a neophyte computer programmer, when every line was an individual card and keeping the deck in order was essential. THANKS FOR VIDEO.

You may notice in other videos that I do just that.

@thegools I'm building this boat for a customer and am trying to keep the color and grain together and lined up. It makes no difference in the performance of the boat and not something I would bother with when building a boat for myself, but it does look nice in the finished product.

@KudaMuda You don't need all these fancy tools. When I built mine all I had was a small table saw, router, ,orbital sander. I cut my strips from 2-4x4s 17 ft long. I bought a disc sander but a belt sander clamped to a saw horse would have been better. Also, got a Japanese saw for fitting the small angles; you saw between the joint until it fits. I used wieghts and leverage to help hold the twist on board until the glue set. All built outdoors behind my mobile home. Enjoyed every bit of the job.

At first I thought numbering these was a little OCD but the result is definitely worth the effort

You can use shorter pieces and join them on the forms

I don't understand the concern about order. Is it so that the color and grain are continuous when putting them on the boat (for those who wish to keep the boat unpainted)?

    Hello nick,
great video. It apppears in these videos tat you are using quarter sawn planks to make your strips. However, in your book you suggest using flat sawn planks to make your strips so as to obtain quarter sawn results. Which is true? flat sawn strip are better for stripping or quarter sawn strips are better?

You should get a robot to build the kayak for you.
