  • Hi guys,
In this video you’ll get a in depth look at the all new 13mm shocks from Team Associated. These shocks now come with the new B6.4 & B74.2 car kits. I’ll be going through what baseline shock package I’m currently running and how I tune them from track to track.
I hope this video helps with any question

As someone who has come from driving a TLR 5.0 Elite, with both the 3.5mm and 3.0mm shock shafts, and moved to a B6.4 as my primary race car, the 13mm does offer the best of both worlds. You get the pack up of the 3.5mm shafts, but the speed and recovery of the 3.0mm shafts. (Interesting enough, Dakota was running 3.0mm on the front, and 3.5mm on the rear at Masters of Dirt, so who knows what works anymore? LOL!)
There is a lot of room for tuning these shocks, and the development of them to meet certain driving styles will be interesting to watch unfold.

Hi mate curious if you have noticed a difference over the TLR 5.0 ?

@@samildinach99 Everyone has noticed a difference. Haha!
I had been struggling with the set up of my 22 5.0 for a while now. I have tried just about everything short of the front end mod, and was still having issues with the car doing what I wanted it to do. I was really struggling with driving around the car, instead of just driving the car.
I got my hands on a 6.4, talked a lot to Spencer about how to build it, got built it up, and in the first heat it ran, it was a lap faster than I had been with the 22 5.0.
Then in the main, I finished a few places higher than I started.
In the last two months since then, I have gone from being next to last, to bumping out of the lower mains, to being at the bottom of the A main, and finishing mid pack.
The 6.4 has taken me from a 80% consistency driver to a 95%+ driver. From an average deviation of 10-15 seconds, down to less than 5. And has taken me from a 12 lap heat, to an easy 14 lap heat, right on the heels of the top guys 15 lap runs in qualifying.
The transformation in my driving style, and how I race from the TLR has been so dramatic, that even the TLR guys are telling me not to bother running the TLR again.
Granted, I am one person, my car has been set up by several AE pros, and is not box stock, but the car fits my driving style, and translates my inputs onto the track so well, and is so absolutely dialed, that I have become an AE guy, after being a life long Losi fan boy.
I now enjoy driving the 6.4, where I was nothing but disappointed and frustrated driving the TLR.
It really has been a night and day difference. It may not be for everyone, but for me, it was a perfect fit, and I can't go back to the 22 5.0 now. The only TLR I drove anymore is my 22X-4, and the new 74.2 drives a lot like the 22X-4, and is tempting me...

It would be good to compare how fast Spencer is using his “old” car with the 12mm shocks compared to the “new” car with 13mm shocks. Even Spencer is using various different permutations to get these shocks to work so us mere mortals have no chance.

That'll never happen. Gotta sell the latest and greatest. Honestly don't see these shocks being that much of an improvement over the 12mm. The jump from small bore rc10b4 shocks to big bore rc10b5 was very noticeable.

As i prepared my lunch, I scrolled through UA-cam to find the perfect video to eat my lunch to. Man, I don't know if I would've ever found a video as great as this one. I mean, you've gotta be kidding me?! 13mm shocks!!!

gods do I love you color scheme, I wish I could get someone like Bradley fine line design, to do my body. I contacted him but unfortunately has too much work. I'm just getting in to racing and got a b6.4d with some nice goodies. plan to make a video series about being a noob and starting out. I've learned so much from watching your videos, more than anyone else. you are very good at expressing things and the way you speak.

Spencer casually has a shock into his pocket! I recently got a B6.4 after I got in love with it during the AMain giveaway last year. No I am trying to rcap a bit on the 1/10 buggies (I have been on 1/8 nitro). Thanks for the video again, Spencer.

I feel that 13mm shocks help the handling on both my RC10B 6.4 and my RC10T 6.4.

thanks for more info about the 13mm shocks, its interesting to see the differance on track how a set of 12mm is compared to 13mm works on the 6.4 i seen at my local track.

Ditch that digital caliper n get yerself a mechanical Mitutoyo...rare occasion where digital ain't got it. Also measuring the piston thickness in the vid...other than that good to know on the thermal effects vs shock oil weight.

I’m a committed AE racer but think AE need to accept these shocks aren’t the silver bullet, normal racers won’t be any better with these shocks.
If the world best racers with an open budget continue to work to find fixes, please accept they aren’t the best idea, stop throwing money down the hole and go back to the 12mm.

Very disappointing video. Very little info and essentially repeating why the kit setup isn’t used but lacking why the mods were made.
