Hey Spencer just wanted to say thanks for the help and tuning tips. It was great to see you race in Loganville Georgia and in Savannah Georgia wish you all the best for the rest of the year! Peace
My man, you're obviously one of the best rc drivers in the world and super nice and chill and its sick that you take the time for these videos, but it's 'excess' (surplus, more than needed...) Not 'access' (entry, permission to enter...)
@@jeffbryner5355 thank you I will have to take a look at his video as well. I would like to see how Spencer breaks his diff in because everybody does there's a little differently.
Quality breakdown video - currently rebuilding a SC6.1 diff for outdoor dirt tracks...You mentioned stock diff balls for your race program- are the stock diff balls steel, ceramic or tungsten carbide material? Any preference given the track conditions? Thanks
If i screw in the bolt till the spring compresses and then undo it by a quarter turn or by 1/8 th will this be too tight? Im using the b7d on Astroturf Really appreciate your help
Would u use ceramic balls in the diff gear or not? And what other types of grease will work for the thrust part? I don't have a regular/conventional black grease but I do have clear (stealth) grease, red grease (valvoline/chrysler premium and lucas red), black graphite grease (hudy), white gear grease (protek friction fighter), and blue grease (progek premium blue o ring)
Hey Spencer I know this is an older video but hopefully you’ll still see this. I run an XT2 in ST High Grip Glued Dirt Indoor. Just curious when I go to rebuild my diff next weekend. Would it have any benefit to using ceramic balls instead of carbide?
Man I have not raced or been into R/C for quite a while but starting to get interested again. Back in the day building the stock thrust assembly that had you putting tiny individual steel balls in-between two flat washers was not fun.
I have a question why grease back of diff rings? I’ve raced since I was a kid I’m 50 now. We used to super glue rings on diff cups. I do race oval. Not sure if that is difference
Hey Spencer, great videos I really enjoy watching them. One question that I do have is do you put grease on the gear faces? The associated manual shows greasing the gears but I’m not sure if that something that you do? Thank you.
Not bad. But I go a step further Spencer. Stuff I figured out. I use calipers and check each ball. To get a perfect match. Then I polish the diff rings my self for smoothness. For grease I use a Teflon grease my dad used at Delta air lines. Its engineered for jet engines. My diffs will feel perfectly smooth for weeks to months.
Everytime i build my diff it feels crunchy to me. Is it supposed to be smooth like a gear diff with no friction at all? Mine are not. I have used ae balls and schelle balls. Same outcome.
@@TTMOTO888 i do it like the ae manual says. All the way down then back it a 1/8 off. Its crunchy at that point. If i loosen it to where its not it will bark under power once installed in the tranny. I have also tried breaking it in by turning the throttle up in the radio just to get it to move and stick a screw driver in the outdrive and let oneside spin at a time for a few minutes a side but still crunchy. Nothing smooth like a gear diff. It feel almost like u would have a bad ball bearing
@@jeffbryner5355 - I've done it the same way in the past. Crunchy diff is all I get. You might like to try the Losi way. Theres a video on how they do it, just tightening it enough so as not to slip then break in the diff on the table then retighten as needed
@@TTMOTO888 ok awesome. Thanks for the info. I just pulled mine out of my sc6 to replace it with a gear diff and it felt like rocks were in there lol. I will check it out when i get a rebuild kit
Don’t tight the diff all the way down, that is probably flat spotting the ring or balls. Break it in first before final tension adjustments. Watch some videos on the process.
So nothing prevents this diff from just spinning inside the outputs outside of friction on the balls? Why balls instead of roller bearings? Why not have spider gears between the outputs so you can run the diff looser without worrying about it not transferring enough torque.
i rebuild mine then when i use the brakes on my truck the screw just comes loose and my brakes are useless. even when i give it some throttle it just spins the gear inside. its a stupid design
This video was smooth just like that diff ;)
He is your enemy on the track know haha
What a smooth diff😉☝ lol
Smooth diff from a smooth operater!
@@baggszilla he maybe a little young to understand that pun lol
I got the pun i just commented that because ryan switched from associated to a tlr driver
Thank you Spencer. Very well explained 👍
Spencer, I’m building one now! My bud Zack told me u just put this out, perfect timing and thank you🏁
Awesome!

Great video thank you! I would really like to see how you break in your diff and adjust it.
I like the syringes they make things much easier. Thanks for the tips
When you have time please show us how you break the diff in.
Thank you for all of your videos.
Look up ty tessman. He has a good video

Just thrash it itl break in on its first thrash n bash
Outstanding job. Thanks.
Your videos are great man, keep up the good work, I enjoy them for sure!!
Nice now i can build one.Cool video helps alot.Keep up the great work.Stay Safe Stay Healthy

Hey Spencer, next time, I think you need to use a little extra grease on that thrust bearing and the diff balls 😜 Good video, thanks!
lol
Thank you Spencer keep it coming
I didn’t even know those caged ball washers existed! Always having the balls come off the washer while trying to put them together haha.
GREAT VIDEO, now I gotta rebuild my bad diff build, The Syringe ideal is the bomb, POP poP Panda King
Well done!
Syringe is an excellent idea, any hints on getting tips for the syringe for storage?
What happened to the gear diff video you put out? I went back to reference it and saw it was taken down for some reason
Well well well. Looks like I built mine backwards. Lol. Thank you. Great vid!
Question. Is the theory that the tighter you make that center screw, the slower the diff? Is that for tuning?
If i screw in the bolt till the spring compresses and then undo it by a quarter turn or by 1/8 th will this be too tight?
Im using the b7d on Astroturf

Can you do a video about how you prep your cars for a race, and can you show how you clean your cars.
can you add a link to the greases you use
Great tips!
Great video! Do you ever sand your diff rings?
Nope, I use the new Team Associated factory Team diff rings
I love hose syringes! any idea where i can get me a pair?
Any chance of a 6.4 gear diff build?
Thanks for the tips. Would like to see a break in video for the diff...
What is the best Reedy servo for a B6.2D, or what's everyone running? Thanks
Can you link to the syringe and caps? I can't find curved syringes with those caps.
What do you do with the old diffs?? You must go through heaps??
No sanding of the rings? Also you don't "break in" the diff? Thanks for the video Spencer
No sanding, I use the new Factory team rings. This is just a diff building video
Spencer, do you have a link to those specific syringes with the cap or is the cap something you supplied? Thanks!
Check Avidrc website

Might be you've over tightened the screw? You can try backing it off 1/8th turn until its smooth

Where to get synringes?
I just thrash mine out of the box never had a diff problem
Spencer :
Can you tell me what the black grease and the clear grease that you use in the syrenges
I said it in the video what it was. It’s the Jconcepts grease :)
For breaking in diffs I hold one tire and pop the trigger 3 times. I do each tire like that
