    I appreciate the honest opinions (not product sponsored) and forthright DIY ingenuity of creating a workaround for a clicker press versus buying the multi thousand dollar ones. I mean unless you're a full blown leather shop, who can afford that? Not me! This video rocks

    The video is old but I'm getting to a point in my leather work where I need a clicker press. I'm thinking of going this way because costs. I'm a vet and done of the meds give me a small tremor in my hands. So this will just make the craft more fun for me, and a better product. Thanks for the info.

    I happened across this video while looking for smaller dies.... this is super cool! Would like to throw you a complement. Your eyes are absolutely beautiful! I’m old enough to probably be your mom so I’m totally not hitting on you it’s just truly a complement of which I don’t think many people get anymore these days! Thank you, Austin, so very much for sharing your video. I just received my pre-made Steel Blade Rule Die Cut Steel Punch Wallet Cutting Mold Wood Dies for making wallets (with the stitch holes in them) but NO directions!
    It came directly from Japan.
    So I have been looking all over on how to use them. I had also just purchased a 2 ton Arbor Press for debossing a logo for my friends business. I was hoping I didn't need the bigger 20(?) Ton Arbor press just for small leather items.
    So I followed your greatly appreciated instructions, and am going to go from there!
    (I don't think I need the steel plates.)
    I have the plastic cutting boards from Walmart. Lol.
    So I hope I am set.
    Thank you so much!
    I am making them for merch for my friend to give away. It's my donation for his UA-cam Channel. (It got to be quite an overall expense for giving free donations! Lol) But I am learning the ropes of leathercrafting. I'm 62 and just retired. I've always wanted to do this.
    Your UA-cam Channel is my "Go-To" Channel now!!!
    Thank you again😊👍

    • @AttackLineLeather
      @AttackLineLeather  Рік тому +1

      Hello there and thanks for the comment. The thickest leather i have clicked out using this press was 10oz which is fairly thick leather. The dies i use are made specifically for leather so i can not attest for how they would perform on plastic. With that being said, this 20 ton press will have more than enough force to click through many sheets of plastic given you use the propper clicker die.

    This is really great! I've been looking for a clicker press, and was just going to pull a trigger on a ~$800 hydraulic press (smaller than yours, it's 13''x 8''). I may buy this. I do have a couple of questions: 1. The central bar that pushes down on the plate looks small. Are the forces being applied evenly on the board? Do you have any uneven cut outs? 2. Is it possible to mount an upper metal board on the central bar? 3. Can it handle a larger cutting board? Not sure if the forces will be even. Thanks a lot for this great info!

    • @AttackLineLeather
      @AttackLineLeather  3 роки тому

      This setup is definitely a money and time saver. If you have any experience with welding, you can customize it even more as far as adding a larger push plate to the bar. I find it does cut evenly. The largest clicker i have is a 7.5x7 wallet dye. If you are looking to use really large dyes it turns into a surface area ordeal and youll need to have a cutting board that matches or exceeds the size of the dye.

    Hint: So you don't have to pump 20 times; pull down on the crossbar with the bottle jack on it. You will be able to pull against the springs easily then unscrew the top of the jack until you are close to the clicker but not too close so when you release the jack it will still go up and out of the way enough to remove the work piece. Just a little time saver.

      @@danielhsubr I bought this ChiCom Freight 20ton Air/Hydraulic Jack for use as a jack as well as for my pipe bender and shop press. Work Smarter, Not Harder $130: www.harborfreight.com/20-ton-air-over-hydraulic-jack-95553.html The air mechanism can be more accurate than manual pumping, count the pulses as ypu work, each increment is small enough you can duplicate work without much risk of overbending. And other than the jack's weight, the air makes everything so much easier from lifting GMV Humvee by suspension or using with pipe bender. For the leather clicker press I bet the 12 ton is more than plenty power for hobby use or small volume.

    I have to say there are much better options for a budget clicker. The hydraulic press is very slow and massive overkill.
    An arbour press and 2 steel plates would cost less than £70, take up less space and be much faster and more versatile.

    • @AttackLineLeather

      Valid points. One must definitely do research pertaining to the needs of his or her shop. In my case an arbor press would not cut it for the leather i work with. If you could, shoot me a link to what you're talking about. Id love to see the arbor press youre speaking of.

      Yes it should. I have clicked oit some pretty heavy leather on it. The key is to be able to have a large preasure plate to cover the clicker dye

    I was thinking a bottle jack,steel plates and steel tubing from a junkyard.. be under 80$ finished
    Clicker dies youd need buy some for every purse ,wallet, minimalist, phone case etc.... I seen it not worth looking into unless your only making and selling 100s of the same thing
    A 20$ (not sure the name) see thru cutting square leaves you limited only to the imagination , a 15$ cutting wheel is marvelous... I ruined one round blade but I cut stingray with it... leather I used the same blade for 2 years on a good cutting board .. so yes faster but 5 wallets later (or whatever) wouldn't you be tired of the same thing and want new dies? And to me it looks like you lose more leather
