Looking at presses for the first time here. With this harbor freight one, how many layers of material can it get through with your custom made dies? I'm trying to find a way to cut through paper thin plastic sheets, so hoping your reply will help with my search.
Hello there and thanks for the comment. The thickest leather i have clicked out using this press was 10oz which is fairly thick leather. The dies i use are made specifically for leather so i can not attest for how they would perform on plastic. With that being said, this 20 ton press will have more than enough force to click through many sheets of plastic given you use the propper clicker die.
@@AttackLineLeather Thanks for the reply! And that sounds great, I'll shoot Texas Custom Dies a message. You're a lifesaver, this will save me a ton of money lol
This is really great! I've been looking for a clicker press, and was just going to pull a trigger on a ~$800 hydraulic press (smaller than yours, it's 13''x 8''). I may buy this. I do have a couple of questions: 1. The central bar that pushes down on the plate looks small. Are the forces being applied evenly on the board? Do you have any uneven cut outs? 2. Is it possible to mount an upper metal board on the central bar? 3. Can it handle a larger cutting board? Not sure if the forces will be even. Thanks a lot for this great info!
This setup is definitely a money and time saver. If you have any experience with welding, you can customize it even more as far as adding a larger push plate to the bar. I find it does cut evenly. The largest clicker i have is a 7.5x7 wallet dye. If you are looking to use really large dyes it turns into a surface area ordeal and youll need to have a cutting board that matches or exceeds the size of the dye.
Nice informative video. My wife has a small custom handbag business. Her best seller uses 5 - 5 1/2 ounce leather which is between 5/64 - 3/32 in thick. Will this setup allow multiple layers of leather to be cut at once or is it limited to one at a time? Any other words of wisdom?
I’m gonna do this with the smaller and cheaper 6 ton shop press from Harbor Freight. The way I see it, a 4 ton clicker press is $1500 from Weaver Leather so 6 tons should be plenty. Thanks for the video.
Hint: So you don't have to pump 20 times; pull down on the crossbar with the bottle jack on it. You will be able to pull against the springs easily then unscrew the top of the jack until you are close to the clicker but not too close so when you release the jack it will still go up and out of the way enough to remove the work piece. Just a little time saver.
Are you still using this as a clicker? My biggest dye I'd use is 12 3/4 x 1.5. Making 2 clicks into 10-11, should work correct? Rest are real small parts for suspenders 1x6"

Valid points. One must definitely do research pertaining to the needs of his or her shop. In my case an arbor press would not cut it for the leather i work with. If you could, shoot me a link to what you're talking about. Id love to see the arbor press youre speaking of.
Will this work for 8-10oz leather for holsters and gun belts?
Yes it should. I have clicked oit some pretty heavy leather on it. The key is to be able to have a large preasure plate to cover the clicker dye
@@AttackLineLeather I’m going to have to put one of these together too poor to afford a clicker press and need to save my hands from further arthritic damage. Appreciate the help man this will come in handy
I was thinking a bottle jack, steel plates and steel tubing from a junkyard.. be under 80$ finished
Clicker dies youd need buy some for every purse ,wallet, minimalist, phone case etc.... I seen it not worth looking into unless your only making and selling 100s of the same thing
A 20$ (not sure the name) see thru cutting square leaves you limited only to the imagination , a 15$ cutting wheel is marvelous... I ruined one round blade but I cut stingray with it... leather I used the same blade for 2 years on a good cutting board .. so yes faster but 5 wallets later (or whatever) wouldn't you be tired of the same thing and want new dies? And to me it looks like you lose more leather
Thanks!
Them dies is hella expensive that’s why you didn’t mention it.
The dies i had made ranged from $35-$50. Its an investment in time and consistency.
@@AttackLineLeather not expensive at all.
@@AttackLineLeather where we can get those prices? I’m quoting in Socal, fellows asking $200+

Dies vary in price but ive had great success with this company
@@AttackLineLeather would those work to cut textile fabrics 100% cotton quilted? Since is manual not sure if is enough to cut through thick layers of fabrics. Thanks will reach out to TCD
I don't know, having to work the hydtolic jack doesnt seem all that much easier than cutting then out by hand. Maybe if you had something with a lever it would operate much faster.
I here ya. It's much faster when you cut out multiples however
