This is honestly the missing ingredient from the live action movies. They keep forgetting his compassion, that’s what made him so freaking good in the cartoons. Just like how Superman isn’t all sunshine and rainbows in his best interpretation, Batman also isn’t gloom and darkness.

for batman to be next to ace, a dying little girl who had an immense telekinetic and psychic power strong enough to warp reality, was one of the most heroic yet sad things to see in the animated show. batman knew how ace felt in that she was a kid who also got her childhood cheated from her. batman even allowed ace to read his mind when normally he blocks his mind to other people. it was honestly so sad to watch that scene but it reminds us of batman’s compassion. everyone was ready to be the city’s hero but only batman was ready to be ace’s hero. also a little fun fact: batman named his dog ace in batman beyond!

Sparing the gory details, I had a pretty rough home life during childhood and I wrote a letter to Kevin Conroy. I asked him how to be like Batman because I wanted to protect my sister.
Kevin, Bruce, and Paul all signed the reply letter and gave me their heartfelt answers. They told me that I already was the Bat because I was doing everything I could to protect the innocent and that I was using my tragedy to motive me to do right and that I was using it as a reminder to always be kind to others.
They also sent me some signed merch and a signed drawing. I still have all of it to this day, 20 years later.

Sage Rain: I 100% agree with you. Kevin Conroy's version of Batman & Bruce Wayne is the best. He had so much time to show the compassionate side of Batman. It reminds me of one of my favorite lines from the Dark night rises.
Bruce Wayne/Batman: A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy's shoulders to let him know that the world hadn't ended.

That's the reason why I love the character not because of how cool he looks or his fighting and detective skills but because through all that darkness he's just a good man trying to do the right thing. I feel like batman fans tend to foregt that he's a hero just like superman or spider-man.

Batman has always held the most compassion and empathy to me that’s the side of Batman I like the most, he has humanity deep down although he may not share it outwardly.
His heart is buried by loss and trauma as well as the need of vengeance yet it seeps out in many ways which makes him human, fallible and deserving of love and justice like everyone else.

Snyder's version of Batman does not have much space to work on because it focuses on 1.) Is Superman a danger to mankind; and 2.) There is a bigger threat to come that will yet again may endanger the world. If you watched Batman V Superman, you can see Bruce Wayne holding the little girl as she is scared in the middle of debris while kryptonians battle in the city.

Also it warms my heart so much that batman saw through ace's danger, and her reputation and saw who she really was, a child in need of love.

When Batman sat next to Ace on the playground, I suddenly realized that emotionally they are about the same age. Bruce Wayne did not develop emotionally after his parent's murder. That gives the scene of Batman and Ace a certain symmetry.
