I bet many people haven't forgot the sound of.the starter gear disengaging off the flywheel on many British cars starting from cold. Have a wonderful day.
Shorting the battery will definitely wake you up lol, glad the old girl fired up, defo look at the timing, hope you all had a nice Christmas, great vid.
Merry Christmas 😊 A problem I remember having with a 1256 viva was the cam lobe that drove the fuel pump was worn - sometimes it wouldn't' drive the fuel pump enough to fuel the carb. Changing it to an electric fuel pump fixed that problem.
Merry Christmas, technically it's 01:02 on Boxing Day watching with one eye to focus hic , good to see you on the mend . Great work on the old girl not too long before she will be back on the road!
Sat watching willing the Viva to start,it did. So now you know the ignition is fine, must be something to do with fuel supply, could be an air leak into the system,or a split pipe or maybe a sticking float chamber, hope you find the culprit, keep going Great work.
First do the static timing. Tool wise, all it requires is a bulb in a holder and a small length of wire. That should be done before using the timing gun. If it still runs rough after timing the engine. It looks as if you have a Stromberg 150CDSEV Carburettor. Have you checked the oil level in the damper? is the inlet piston correctly adjust? There maybe a problem with the float level or a pin hole in the carb diaphragm. Air leaks around the gaskets may be an issue. You can use brake fluid to lub. all rubber like when fitting the caps on the leads. 1:19 that should be festiviva 🎄 5:42 Nice to see you are talking welding already. 🕶 Get well soon, old bean.
loved the battery welding spot on , the early chevettes were fussy things used to have problems with valve gaps as these were set with engine running and not static, the main problem with the ballast system was they fire on turning over then die when you dropped the key back to normal position because they had no ballast feed or the resistor was knackered , still chuckling over the battery language lol
With ignition on and contact breaker points closed, measure the voltage across the coil terminals. If it's 9 volts, it's a ballast resistor system, 12 volts, it ain't. PS got ya fuel filter barse ackwards too. In at the thin end, out at the fat end. Oughta be an arrow on the outside denoting direction of flow. 🙂
Merry Christmas…. Looked like fuel pump was working ok, it was shooting fuel out fine when pipe was in the bottle, And engine sounded ok when you chucked fuel down the inlet port. I’d get a carb service kit and get the carb stripped down and cleaned. PS I had serious cold turkey last Sunday with no Viva to watch.😂😂😂
Check that`s its firing on all 4 sounds like it maybe missing on a cylinder also make sure you have carb oil in the top of the carb (white screw top on carb) so it creates the vacum on the carb hope some of might help
Merry Xmas and a happy new year to you and yours Mr RB. Looking forward to more HC related fun in 2023. I'll probably be faffin around with the carb on my HC next year as well. Not an area that I'm very familiar with so looking forward to getting some tips. 🙃🙂 A the best from Aberdeen.
If she runs with fuel down the carb I'd check the float height or the float needle. She ran sweet as a nut with fuel straight in so that's the only thing in between. Good luck fella, she's almost there. 🙂
Season's greetings and great to see you back and feeling better, but still clearly feeling a bit rough so do take care of yourself. I think your main issue might now be the timing and with the carb also maybe being a bit gummed up too. Some sort of additive might clear that? And as someone has said if you are using unleaded you need to be careful the valve seats were upgraded to take it - an unwelcome thought I know as it is a costly job, but I believe you can use an additive to make up for it being "non-leaded". Hope these thoughts help and all the best to you and your family for the coming year too.
Seasons greetings, hope you had a good one! I'm adding an additive to the fuel and I'm using a high octane petrol. Will be checking out the carb in the next vid. Thanks for the info and all the best to you too 👍
Merry Christmas to u all i enjoy ur vlog the comedy element is second to none and i myself ave rebuilt a honda vfr800 fi 1998 engine into a 1999 frame plus finished with ebay parts enjoyable but still not cheap any ways passed MOT in june 2022 put 537 miles minus one break down easy fix side stand switch knackered disconnected and away we go nice when we know projects inside out good luck for 2023 and i will look forward to watching your new year vlogs all the best mate and hopefully a good new year From down here in Nuneaton Warwickshire
Merry xmas to you great video's have you put any thin oil damper on the carburettor plus the rubber diaphragm ( could be split or not seated correctly) Hope 2023 will be a great you and your channel👍👍
She's on her new laptop, delighted. My daughter is playing her new bass guitar. That leaves me to sit on UA-cam watching you. Merry Christmas. That engine sounded sweet when you gave it fuel directly so my thought is that it's still a fuel thing.
Many years ago I had a problem with a Viva starting and it was the Ali inlet manifold two bores had blown into one so you couldn’t get any setting with the carb
Those carbs can be a bit of a pain when they're worn and leaky around the gaskets , shafts , diaphragm etc , i had one on my early Volvo 245 , sent it off to get a rebuild after plenty of fiddling about by myself and then it went fine .
How about the fuel itself is it E10? If its been sitting in the tank in the cold it could have went off a bit? A good blast of super might help it ..Best wishes for Christmas RetroRebuild ..and bring back 4 star !!!.
@@RetroRebuild And thank you loving the vids always look forward to the next. i had quiet christmas which is ok for me and my wife. looking forward to the new year and a bit of sunshine
Great way to spend Xmas morning - watching Retro Rebuild in bed with a cuppa. Need to get up and out in the fresh air (just as soon as this finishes). Merry Xmas - keep up the good work.
Good to see you back mate, missed me usual RR episode last Sunday ..! Have a great rest of Xmas and a happy new year to you , looking forward to seeing the viva finally on the road ❤👍🏻🥳
On my 1256 chevette the ballast is in the wiring but a ballasts coil is used and when cranking the solenoid gives 12v to aid cold starts,I have had a situation where on releasing the key power would be cut to the coil by a faulty solenoid. The standard points and coil should be up to the job. Sounds like you have a feeling issue.
The turkey is in the oven, the sprouts are on the hob,so what better way to spend some spare time than to watch your next episode of the Viva re-birth,Great video again, wishing you A Happy Christmas, keep up the good work
Ah, sorry, missed this one arguing with the turkey! Fuel pump diaphragm? Had that on my mums old one, ran OK most of the time, but the b!tch wouldn't go up hills without a run up. Enough fuel to go, but not a reliable enough supply to keep going? (edited to add - b!tch meaning the car, obvs, not me mam!)
