- River Metro with only 9000 miles on the clock , un started since 1995
One lady owner will it come back to life after sitting g for 26 years
You couldn’t find a more genuine barn find
Such a lovely little classic. Great to see the old lady purring over.
On another note though, that's a perfect audiobook voice. Could see him doing late-night radio you'd listen to through the night.
It's great to see these little cars finally getting a bit of respect. We had one when I was a very young kid and it got us around and probably broke all kinds of modern day emissions regs.
Those imissions are a load of bullshit
I used to own a 1991 G plate Metro Clubman, best car I had back in the day, once all warmed up I would call it my pocket rocket.
I don’t care about the video production I don’t care that I can’t hear what the guys says! I just loved every single bit of this ! Well done! Can’t wait to see this getting cleaned and go back on the road
I think you'd be very surprised the amount of people that would be interested in that car buddie. Metros have a huge following especially the early ones and the MG range.
Great video ! Had one of these as a hire car once and it was not a bad car. Still looks modern, even today. Important piece of motoring history that deserves restoration.
Modern? ...I have to disagree with you there bud. Do these Metros look nice? Yes, they do. But, does it look like a car from the 2020s (now 2023)... not even slightly.
I was expecting him to drive it out of there ! Superb video.
Had such a smile on my face watching this. So many fond memories of these motors, very popular learner vehicle in the mid 90s. Might have cheered a bit too loud when it started ticking over. Off to watch the next one now.
Nothing better then seeing a old car come to life again defo needs restoring !! What a little beaut
I like these videos, finding g a barn find, hidden cars in undergrowth, getting the started, even putting penetrative oil in the spark plug, carburetor to free a seized engine by hand cranking, changing stale fuel, great viewing 👍
My 1988 1litre red metro was one of the best (of many) cars I owned....did a lot of miles and never let me down....🚗
aww metro was my first ever car loved it xx
Wow I would love the challenge of getting that back on the road.
Glad to see this getting some love....and for my part much better viewing than seeing you muck about with the American stuff. Thanks for bringing us all along to see this.
This was the first 6d video I found and watched.. Was awake at about 2am and getting annoyed I couldnt get to sleep so put the TV on with my recently purchased Prime stick.
I watched this start to finish... didnt help me sleep as I got well into it 🤣🤣
Its was the one that really set us going view wise 👍
@@6DDIESELSDorset I was tagged in it and sent it on FB several times, it was shared a lot on car groups. It was around the same time I did a similar thing with a Pug 205 on my channel..looked very similar at the start 🤣
Such good condition considering, I do hope this nearly new Metro gets a new life with a keen owner.
Really loved this video. The petrol cap … in the mid 1980’s Metro’s got recalled due to a risk of fire from petrol spilling onto the back axle or exhaust system. The original petrol caps had to be replaced because of fuel ‘sloshing’ out when the Metro cornered. The cap in the video looks like one of the ‘upgraded’ official replacement caps - which surprisingly were not as robust looking as the original cap. I had an MG Metro (red seat belts !!), and it got stuck in floodwater about 2 - 3 feet deep. I was towed out and told to abandon the car (by now full of water in the cab right up to seat level) as the recovery truck driver said it would not be able to start. I turned it over, and to everyone’s astonishment it started first time. About 9 months later the front valence (the metal structure behind the front number plate) rotted through because of a curved lip which retained moisture, and was an MoT structural defect, caused by the flood water. Unconnected with the flood, the 4 speed gearbox gave up 2 years later - I think that 4 speed gearbox was not up to the engine revs of the 1.3 MG Metro. I loved that car, though. despite the unplanned extra repair costs. It was fun to drive, quick acceleration, frugal on fuel, and cornered really well. The rear storage when the seats were folded flat was astonishing and I’m pretty sure it was the Metro that heralded the 60/40 split rear seats, now standard on most cars. It was brilliant seeing all the electrics lighting up on the Metro in the video and I cheered when the car started. Fantastic find and it will be brilliant to see this car back in the road. Thank you for posting the progress. As an aside about BL cars, the Maestro had a unique sales pitch after one such model was parked on a beach and got submerged under sea water when the tide came in. When the tide went back out, the owner turned over the ignition, and unbelievably it started. It featured in sales adverts for the following 6 months. As a downside, the Maestro got slammed for its onboard ‘computer’ which repeatedly told its owners “This car needs a service” even when it didn’t. In those days, cars were not perfect or even reliable, but they were a lot of fun and had plenty of idiosyncratic features.
Amazing I absolutely love metros MG's I'm mad on but a 9k mile metro find is awesome it's got to be saved and loved why can't I come across these amazing finds. 👌👍
My first car in 1995 was a B reg 1.0 L metro! Mine was a red 3-door model and pretty sure mine had more rust on it then than this beauty does 27+ years later! My clock definitely didn't work. What a treat to watch you bringing this back to life
34 years after learning to drive in a BSM Metro I remembered where the headlight switch is!
I actually cheered when the plucky Metro fired up! Hope it gets saved by someone
Brilliant! We had a few of the van version on the electricity board. They lead a hard life but rarely broke, and cornered like go-karts!
I loved my little MG Metro, and I loved my Rover Metro GTI and would definitely have another of those even if it is 30 years old.
Long wave radio, what a blast from the past. Atlantic 252 oh the memories 😃
Imagine describing the use of a choke to kids now a days. You have to pull this lever out and let your car run for a while to warm up or it will cut out 😂
Imagine explaining how to set the pre sets on the radio ! Lol
Wow now there's a blast from the past lol my dad had a vaux nova before 2000 and it was the mk1 so only had mw and lw radio lol I remember Atlantic 252 being on all the time, feels a long time ago mind lol
Well that’s brought back some memories 😀. When I started my apprenticeship as a mechanic back in 1980 Metros were my bread and butter. In all honesty, they weren’t terrible cars. There was a lot worse around at the time. They were pretty basic but that made them pretty reliable. I never doubted that it would start as long as it hadn’t failed catastrophically. The MG’s were good cars. And the MG Turbo was a hoot to drive. It had a power band like an RD 250. Press the go pedal, 2000rpm nothing. 3000rpm, nothing. 4000rpm, nothing. 4500rpm OMG. But by 5000rpm it had started to run out of steam😂. Looking forward to the next instalment 😀
Good job getting the old Girl started. I wouldn't have let it run on 26 year old oil though, most probably mineral oil that over time has zero viscosity. Drove many a Metro back in the day, the MG was like driving a go-cart and immense fun.
My grandad used to drive one of these, in that hideous shade of metallic brown. I regret never having a go.
Gotta love those A series engines! I remember when me n my father were after an engine for a moggy 1000 and we found one immersed in water in the bottom of a skip! We still got it to run
Incredible. Great video. 👍
Excellent video ! 👍
Great video, reminds me of when you could buy a metro for £30, hope you make a video of the first wash and detail
Bless it. "The little car that can"
Bloody magician ! Who’d think it would fire up, great to see that , we’ll done there 👍🍻
Fantastic find again al
Another great video has always al 👍
growing up...ive been in many metros...none (even with a layer of mould) looked as good as the interior in this! bloody hell
Great little cars , my dad still has an MG version.
Truly amazing and astonishing find. Great video. That car deffo wants to live again.
UA-cam brought me here, great video, I've subscribed...
Now you need to do a follow up, getting the car driving out and pressure washed 👍 I’m a new subscriber
Just literally loaded it up now fella 👍
This Metro deserves to be cleaned up and put on the road. She's waited long enough! A next to mint one sold at auction for tens of thousands not too long ago.
This one will easily earn money if you spend a little cash to get a new headlight, clean it thuroughly and service it with a new belt and fluids.
Back in 1999, my vw scirocco broke down. my father in law lent me his little B reg metro so I could get to work. I always hated the sight of Metros and though grateful for the loan of the car, expected it to be nasty. after a couple of journeys though, I absolutely fell in love with the little car. so much so, that I bought one for myself and sold the scirocco. I drove that Metro all over Europe for years camping trips year after year with no major problems. sadly though, despite me looking after the bodywork, she rusted out underneath eventually and had to be scrapped. enjoyed the video and looking forward to the next instalment.
An A-series will start no problems. Your main concern with a Metro is the fact it will rust away in front of you, in real time. That's in not too bad condition considering.
Had a couple of MG's and 4 of the later GTi 16v's. One of which I installed a 1.8 vvc from an MGF into.
I had a new 205 Junior 954cc back in 1986 after I passed my test at 18 - these 1.0L Metros used to burn me up at the lights (not difficult admittedly) 😂 - very frustrating, especially as they were usually driven by pensioners
Amazing find, looking forward to seeing the next video 👍👍
Incredible really, good video Al
Thats basically a brand new Metro, you dont see them on the roads nowadays because they either disintegrated into rust or engine blown or gears worn lol, someone will pay good money for that, metros were fun
Damn the best British leyland car made is that 😮! Most of them were rotted away to the scrap yard by 6 years old let alone 26 years lol 😂
Passed my test in a metro. Hope you're going to film it being jet washed.
Been a mechanic all my working life from 15yo I'm 54 now, worked in a Rover main agent from 91 to 99, that A series was always going to run. I bought a new Metro in 88 a CityX F335RFV in lipari blue it was shit but it was new, it had a box under warranty at 6 mths old and a gold seal engine at 8 months old under warranty. I thought that was pretty grim until I started at the dealership then I learned what warranty work was...but at least I got paid for doing it. K series engines were dire, absolute toffee but good for bonus.
👍👍 See You in 2023 ON The Road What a Brilliant Find, Happy and Safe 2023 All
Love the sound of that A-series. That’s going to be a lovely car when it’s cleaned up.
Got to be someone out there who wants the thing !! Plan is to get it out and moving properly then stick on eBay and see what happens 👍
@@6DDIESELSDorset motor museum would take it easily
@@6DDIESELSDorset I would love it, how much would you/your friend be looking for?
@@6DDIESELSDorset how much are you after 👍
@@6DDIESELSDorset, your channel and video for this car I think has plenty of followers from the Metro Owners Community. It has been shared on nearly every Metro related Facebook group. This car I am sure will find a new owner.
Fantastic video, would be great to see the journey of this car what a great little motor 👍
The best thing to use in the cylinders to free em up is a 50/50 mix of diesel and automatic transmission fluid, works great and does not thin out the oil like solvent based sprays do
Would love to see it cleaned. I knew everything would work its only done low miles
“This must have been a good day at BL” 🤣
Man what I'd give to find a genuine barn find
Can't believe everything works great find
Nothing wrong with Austin Rover shame Rover Group is no longer with us.
I passed my driving test in a Mini Metro back in 1984, would have been in a new BSM Metro with what? an A reg? Cool seeing a video about one...pity its in such short order! But in saying that with only 9834 miles on it, the engine hasn't even been run in yet!
Such a cool instrument cluster! Good job
So nice to see a car drive out of hibernation. That’s a rare UA-cam moment, especially one of those cars which has a reputation for rust in our climate. Clearly a roof has helped, but even so, a remarkable feat of determination to save it. I’m sure some folk would just call a scrapper. Just don’t let it become a banger racer. That would be criminal….
My late sister had one of these cars 🚗 and it was great at the time not a Bother
21.50 this cannot be a British Leyland product 🤣👌 really hope it went on to a good cherished home on ebay
Amazingly rare to see one in that condition still. It's a keeper and would be ideal for renovation. Looking forward to seeing it jetwashed and cleaned up.
are you really a girl into metro's?
@@AL-PAKA I'm not into Metros, no. The video came up at random and I appreciate it as a rare car and it should be kept. I personally wouldn't have one. It's not my thing. Doesn't mean I don't wish it well.
@@TheGramophoneGirl Whats your thing?
You gona sell it
This is brilliant well done can't wait for you to clean it
Absolutely brilliant video buddy, what a lovely little car 🙂
Cheers fella 👍
My son's cars looks like that...on a good day
My first car as a freshly passed 17 year old in 1995 was a blue 1.0 ltr 16 year old austin metro bought from my next door neighbour for £250. Car was a total beast, never broke down and did 100mph on the motor way!
Very nice work and interesting car!
Respect!
My first car was pretty much the same as this, even lower spec though!
Good Post. Its still worth decent money if its pretty solid underneath. These are collectable now.
It was only the very first ones that were named miniMetro. This being a B reg, is a pretty early MK2.
a proper Austin metro !! absolutely love metros !! my brother had one 20 years ago .. i drove his for a week or so as my other car was being fixed and i loved it !!! i want to get one as a project
Wow
Reminds of when we used to “find” them on tbe estate abandoned, I’ll never forget the sound of the engine 😎
Really interesting tyres on that tractor whitout studs, like a highway version.Never seen before.
They are grass tyres designed to run with a set of gang mowers 👍
Great to see! First car I ever owned. I had 3 Metros, the last being a 1.3 Mayfair. Happy memories. I don't miss the early-morning-before-work points cleaning though to get the thing started 😀. Fun little car never let me down. 👍👍👍
Just found this channel and loved some real basic mechanics. I had the metro city. Same year and it didn’t even have a passenger sun visor as that was an optional extraThe reg was reg B343YGO. The tyres were a metric size and cost a lot more than standard from memory…
A working British Leyland... who'd have thought 🤔🤔🤔 it!!!
A+ engine so can use unleaded directly no additive . Shows how good the A series engine is simple and reliable. My dad and myself had a few of these and other BL cars
I love your deep voice!
Metro is still worth a lot of money.
Good Tcut SORTED 👍
To be fair, these cars were not bad, I have driven many modern cars which were far more unreliable, and less durable.
That car will clean up great nice job 👏
Please upload the detailing video. From first pressure wash to final polishing. It will be so satisfying
as a MOT tester that car would have passed up to the football socks ! LOL
I am truly astounded that this car has lasted outside for this long to say that the steel it was made out of was on par with that of a Fiat & Alfa, Skoda n Lada I in my eyes this is a miracle !
Fantastic that was certainly a good day at British Leyland 😀
Must have been a Wednesday and one when they went on strike ….😂😂😂
Absolutely love this! Can’t wait til the next instalment! 😊
Got one of these for my 18th birthday many moons ago. I can still remember the registration, VND 370X.
Brilliantly simple to work on. Same colour as this one:- zircon blue metallic 😢
Rust was the biggest problem, front wings, cills, floor pans and rear arches.
Quite a lively little engine, especially when I swapped the cylinder head over to a larger valve 1275 unit.
Fond memories.
I’m sure it will sell, the question is, for how much. Such low mileage, it’s incredible.
Thanks for sharing 👍
I had a slightly newer one than yours (around 9 months) - ALL 774Y which was a 1.0 litre base model in non-metallic red - and two neighbours (they were brothers) had A103DGM (green) and A104DGM (blue) brought mid-1984. Also when my father brought our one new they had an identical one ALL 770Y in the showroom and the first owner lived locally and I used to see that one parked just down the road from where my aunt lived.
In the past couple of years I've only seen one Metro in the area, a white City I think on a 1986 C plate
i love that dashboard real retro !! the green light looks fab
My first car. Managed to get 105 mph out of it.
Fantastic to give this little Austin Metro a secound chance... On the main land they have ever been exctremely rare...
Subscribed! I have to see this thing return to life!
My first car was a y reg gold 1.0 metro making me feel old . Drove the rear sub frame off it literally. Broke the engine mount so proped it up with a wooden rolling pin for months lol good times. I think I was told the gold engine block was originally in the mini and Austin got them back in as scrap reconditioned them into the newer metro. 👍
Good lord, she’s alive. Remarkable resurrection, looking forward to this, subscribed!
Brilliant!
I paid 50 quid for a p/x metro back in the days before Christ. It got me from Edinburgh to London., but the drive was so bad I just left it in London and got the train back.
Great vid bye the way. Thank you
In the days before Christ?
Metros are older than I thought!
Great to see it running , top work
I bought a brand new one in 1985, I remember the deposit was £199 and £99 pounds a month. Never let me down,I traveled from Scotland and all over England going too dog shows. Had it for a few years and eventually trading it in for a XR2. (White one) this was a nice wee car in its day, I remember the steering was heavy. Quite wide wheels and no power steering.
