You pay for the bus in cash. There are online timetables to check out times. Buses are more expensive than the train - trains are 50% off for over 60s ( but have I’d ) but cheap compared to the UK. Try O Monte restaurant or Saboras de Ria for restaurants! My husband loves pork & clams! There’s some good live music venues in the village if you want to just relax with a drink. Some fabulous day trips using the train - try a trip to Culatra ( island) from Oldham. Private health care lots of . East Algarve is a bit cheaper than the middle/west of Algarve. Really hard to get long term rentals but if you want to stay for 3 months over the winter season you’ll find some bargains. I love Cabanas! Been visiting for 15 years 😀
Thank you for our Sunday update - I am sure you will be enjoying a busy Lisbon by now and maybe wishing for the tranquility of here!!!! Looking forward to the results of your expenditure next week - Peter and I think you will be over budget !! Xxxx
You are so right, we are looking forward now to the pace of life in Lisbon. We did enjoy the relaxing time here, but are ready for the big city now. Xoxox
Thanks for sharing. We are exactly the same when it comes to buses!! We ride the Metro's everywhere we do with no problems but yet we never take the bus because we don't know how to do it! Looking forward to next weeks wrap up.
A Snackbar in Portugal is like a restaurant and snackbar combined. You can get quick snacks and some options of full meals. The big difference from a normal restaurant is that they do not close in the afternoon, and they are open until late in the evening. Usually the meal prices are more affordable than normal restaurants, because the options on the menu are regular day to day local dishes.
How are the greens fees? Do you rent clubs? What is the cost and how are they? Do you rent a cart? Do you hire a caddy? My husband and I plan to start our nomad adventures in 2026, and golf is a prime interest and concern, at least for my husband, so we're very interested in hearing these details from a fellow golfer. Thank you!
We arrived when they just changed the pricing to the "High Season", so a round of golf is 102 euros. You do not hire a caddy, and I walked the course (which most people seemed to do as well). You have the option to rent a golf cart or a pull cart or just carry your clubs. They also rent out clubs (I think its 30 euro), but the Airbnb we stayed in supplied a set of golf clubs for me to use, which was very nice. I was able to purchase a 1 month membership pass for 150 euros, which then lowered my green fees to 50 euros a round (any day and any tee time, with no restrictions).
Our decision was on the Cabanas area because that’s where we stayed. We visited Tavira several times and think we would have preferred the vibe and activity there. Having said that, the beach would have been a little less convenient to get to and the golf course a bit farther away. It’s difficult without having actually stayed there to have an opinion about Tavira though. Hope that helps! 😊
@@RetiredNomadAdventures It does help, thank you. I just got back from 10 days in Lisbon and Porto. Had a great time there, but I don't think I could live in either place - both a bit too busy for me. Outside of Porto is a maybe, but too much visitor traffic in the city and Lisbon was just way too busy. I, like Retired Rick, probably would need to be near a golf course. Just can't seem to shake that addiction! I enjoy watching your videos - you do a great job.
Sounds great.
Thanks Deb and Mike!
Seems quite nice. Good to know a month is likely a good amount of time.
I was really nice and relaxing. :)

We really enjoyed our time here too and can see why you love it!

Great summary of your stay . Thanks for sharing .
Thanks Jenny!! :)
The trains to the West and to the East are different trains/train stations and do not connect. One is a long drive up north to get to
Try the Hippo Bar or Sunday upstairs at Quasi’s!
Thanks for the recommendation Susan! :)
Excellent details and I appreciate the honest "No, but we love the place."
Thanks Erick! So far Portimao is the only place that has a definitive yes from both of us. Fingers crossed for Lisbon!
if you are in cabanas the best place to eat is "o ideal". don't miss that one and also "mariscos e petiscos"
Thanks!
Hi. Loved your video and your channel. Is there a way I could reach you directly? Thank you so much and keep up the amazing work. Isabel

Isn’t that funny?! I’m not sure why we have a bit of a barrier when it comes to the buses. Someday. :)

Thanks Carlos! We sure do love all the food here!

Does your decision on not being able to live there also include Tavira, or just the Cabanas area?
