To meet local characters try one of the non-tourist real pubs like The Artillery Arms, The Hovelling Boat, The Pub, The Montefiore Arms or The Honeysuckle. You’ll find folk very friendly and keen to strike up conversation in these places.
We haven’t heard of this city before but it sounds great. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to check it out one day. Great video with lots of useful information.
Thanks for the positive comments. I live in Ramsgate. Moved here over 23 years ago. It has it's detractors. But I enjoy its diversity and potential. Would recommend a trip to Deal, Whitstable amongst others (all accessable by train and bus). Enjoy your time here.
Excellent! This is exactly the kind of travel that I would like to do during my retirement...somewhere between 30 and 90 days! Looking forward to your thoughts and experiences.
Your videos just get better and better! Loved some of the pics mixed in. Canterbury (sp?) looks amazing, hopefully there will be a short video on that day trip? My guess for your budget is that you went over, lol. Can't wait to see that video as well. I also think you guys are going to be in amazing shape after all that walking!
Thanks Sarah! I think we would be in great shape if we could stop eating so much! We are really enjoying the food a bit too much. The budget video is next week… It’s a nailbiter! 😂
Great video I live not far from Canterbury pleased you enjoyed your visit to Ramsgate and the surrounding area you are spot on about the cost of living here it's gone crazy expensive these last few years as it has also Stateside my sister in law is from San Clemente and moved from California state to San Antonio due to work but they mentioned also how expensive California was getting back then and that was a few years back!
Hi Jenny! We have 2 other videos where we take you out and explore the town a bit more. If you are thinking of going to Ramsgate, you might find them helpful. Thanks for watching!
My grandma moved to Ramsgate in 1962 and she lived there until her death 30 years later. She loved the place, though other members of her family visiting weren't so keen. For me it was where I spent several Summer holidays as a kid in the 1960s and I liked the area too. Sadly, it deteriorated a lot over the years, even becoming a bit run down like many British seaside resort areas after people stated flying abroad for holidays. In recent years, though, there has been a lot of redevelopment and improvements to the Thanet area, and you can have a nice holiday there. If only accomodation was more available and affordable!
I've lived in Ramsgate for 15 years and I'm glad you found it ok but I would like to set a few things straight, train times to London 1hr 16 mins to Kings cross, crime, I will say the figures are not a real reflection, often a late night pub fight (tourists) will go down as violence whereas the town is a very safe and a pleasant place. Cost of living, like all new comers to an area, they don't know where to shop and go to the places that cost the most, if you visited London and only shopped in Bond St you would think it cost the Earth, I have watched US Vs UK food prices and I know how much more things cost in the US 2x 3x the price of the UK and Ramsgate is cheaper than the average, an example would be the local farm shop has a 20KG bag of red potatoes for £5-£8. If you ever need any help knowing where to go from a local you can ask by answering this comment.
Im British but never been to Ramsgate .Seems very nice .Enjoyed seeing. Listening to your Opinions about a part of the Uk ive never been. Im from Derbyshire. The Prices seem a bit higher than my part of England. But it is a Sea side town .so id expect that .I pay just over £ 10 for fish + Chips .massive portions.
We loved it there. We have two other videos about Ramsgate - a first impressions video and one where we take you along to spend the day out and about with us. We show you more of Ramsgate in those videos if you are interested. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your beautiful country with us!
If you’re staying in Ramsgate, try and visit Whitstable which would be accessible either by bus or train. It’s an amazing town which I think you would love ❤
Try a canal boat, move at least every 2 weeks and you can meander across England and Wales for years at a maximum 4mph without mooring fees. There's loads of UA-cam videos to see how it's done, and rental/hire to try it.
Autumn + Winter... it's gonna be cold and wet until Springtime probably - BUT, find a nice local pub with an open fire + old dog + it doesn't matter what the weather is, just sit and read/relax. You should be able to get on the Channel Tunnel really easily, be in Paris (and beyond) easily - you're in a really good place to access mainland Europe. Wetherspoon's is pretty much the UK version of McDonalds 🤣 I'd guess for crime - most of that would be drunk fights, or drug related.
That sounds cozy and wonderful. We had never heard of Wetherspoons. The one in Ramsgate was really beautiful, but we heard the same sentiment from others about them. :) I agree on the crime statistic, we were surprised by it because we felt safe when we were there.
between Margate and Faversham ,that is on the north kent coast, lies some beautiful countryside in the late spring,I guess you will not be here then ,but Marlon Brando found somewhere nearby what he said was like a paradise ,I believe in the apple blossom season,he came for a week and stopped for five ,the story goes they ,the film people had one heck of a time getting him away, If you're around try Faversham ,they have a boatyard there ,definitely not gentrified ,also the home of proper Kentish beer, ancient history and an American Lady who is the owner of a kentish oyster farm, Just ask ,enjoy yourselves
When you return to the USA it might be cheaper to travel by train via Dover to either Paris or Brussels and fly from there. Worth checking before you spend anything.
Why on earth would you actually want to live there? Try adding Prestbury, Alderley Edge, Chester, Perth, Exeter, Edinburgh, Chalfont St Giles, Bournemouth, St Andrews etc, etc. to the top of your list.
Hi Peter! Thanks for the question, we should have explained that. The Schengen area allows people to travel freely between most EU countries but limits US citizens stay to 90 days. So, we try to find countries that are not part of Schengen to spend time outside of the 90 day limit.
I used to go to ramsgate on holidays with my parents in the early 70s .
We really enjoyed our time there!
I love these videos, helps me for the future!
Thanks Jordana! ❤

You are doing a nice job on these videos. We usually spend 3-4 months each year in England on our retired travels.
Thanks! have you ever been to Ramsgate? We really, really enjoyed it here!
@@RetiredNomadAdventures We have not. We have spent most of our time in the Lake District.
@@Fell214 my family is down near the Lake District. It’s beautiful there. If you’re ever near Ramsgate, it’s worth checking out. 🤗

Great video! We've never been to the UK, so this was very informative. I love that it's seaside, the harbor looks really nice!
Thanks so much! We really enjoyed our time in Ramsgate!
Great video, good luck!
Thank you Ian!
Nice video!
Please visit Scotland before you decide on Ramsgate.
It might just change your mind!!😊
Thank you! We love Scotland too! :)

Hi David! The cost of living really has skyrocketed! San Clemente is only about 45 minutes from where we are from. :)
Good video. Very interesting.
Thanks so much!
Based on this video , we’d love to include Ramsgate in our bucket list 😀

You can really see the redevelopment efforts and I think they are making nice progress. I bet your summer holiday memories are wonderful!

The UK is the origin of the Anglosphere. Therefore, all you see/experience in the UK is also a part of your heritage.
If you’re staying in Ramsgate, try and visit Whitstable which would be accessible either by bus or train. It’s an amazing town which I think you would love ❤

I can't quite catch what you are saying....Shengin Area / Zone...what is that, please ?
Schengen Area. It’s the European Travel Area. You can cross over borders between it’s member countries freely and without any restrictions.
Hi Peter! Thanks for the question, we should have explained that. The Schengen area allows people to travel freely between most EU countries but limits US citizens stay to 90 days. So, we try to find countries that are not part of Schengen to spend time outside of the 90 day limit.
Head north and cut your costs by 20%-50% as you head north.
Cutting costs by that much would be wonderful!
