- A walk out from home and solo camp in the beautiful Nidderdale, the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. I’m lucky with what I have on my doorstep!
I went to test a THERMAREST ADARA HD sleeping bag. I bought it half price which still cost a rocket. It’s actually a women’s long which seems to be the same length as my men’s Rab Neutrino 600 (regular). I’m 6ft so both fit me perfectly but with no room to spare. It’s rated at -12c so will cope with all UK wild camping winters.
It was -6c and I was like my dog by the fire! So don’t shy away from ‘women’s’ products as they are often identical to the men’s unless they have a particular fit. We are all humans!

Yes if he was cold I’d give him my jacket but he never is! A dog crossed with a duck. Hairy with a down undercoat. He’s ace!

Hello my American friend! I’m glad you found my channel. You’ll love the tent as it’s lightweight, small pack size and tough enough to take the weather. I’ve not seam sealed mine yet but I will do soon because next weeks video shows it dripped in at a couple of spots but the rain was as bad as you get! My dog is actually a border collie sheep dog but has the same gene (Merle) as the Aussie breed to make them patchy coloured.

Thanks. It’s awesome camping in snow. With frozen ground sometimes the pegs take a bit of getting in and then out again. We need some snow 😂

Your dog is awesome, I’ve got a blue mearle as well and trying to get him tent trained! He wouldn’t sleep outside though as he’s not as thick of a coat as bluie and he’s got a couple of medical that we manage but great to see these videos with him.
He definitely is awesome! They are a beautiful dog and I’m lucky he has such a thick coat and can cope with very cold conditions. It’s good having a companion for adventures!

Know this area well. One of my favourite woods, so old and green with so much moss. Some great views up the valley from the the cliff top. Be careful around the area where you camped, there are some huge hidden crevices underfoot.
Yes I live there. It’s a lovely part of the world. I’ve explored lots of the caves and crevasses and slept in a few. I feel lucky to have it on my doorstep.

That’s the Fjallraven sarak jacket I think. Brilliant for Bushcraft. I bought my two second hand off eBay. They fit big so mine is a size small (6ft tall).

I recently purchased this tent on the strength of an earlier video of yours. Can I ask, have you seam sealed yours? I've not had any problems so far, but it's only been used in moderate rain. I've heard differing views as to whether Fjallraven tents need seam sealing or not.

Great video as usual; I'm looking for a lightweight 1 man, 4 season tent. This looks cool. At the moment I have Berghaus Cairngorm ii and way too heavy and too much hastle to setup after a long hike. I've swapped my Mountain Equipment Starlight iv sleeping bag (too big (Packed Size:26cm x 37cm) and heavy (1715g)), for a Thermarest Questar -18c Long down sleeping bag (Packed Size 20cm x 25cm) (Weight 1210g)).
Yes there are some great one man tents that are really lightweight. This one is of the best all round tents I think👍

My next video is a for beginners so I’m sure you’ll pick up a few ideas from it. All I want to do is inspire others to get outside and enjoy our lovely world! As long as people ‘leave no trace’ and respect the land and other people.

All tents as you know will get condensation but I think the Abisko is pretty good. I’ll have to borrow an Akto and test it out. I’ll be doing a full Abisko review soon if you’re interested.

I think the Akto lacks some of the ventilation options of the Abisko which is why I chose the later 🤞
Nice little overnight trip. I'm curious to what you think of the tent as I've just bought one, in particular how you deal with condensation.
I’ve barely had any condensation with the Abisko. One night it was wet inside the fly sheet but it was totally persisting it down and both me and Blue were wet getting in so it was to be expected. I think it’s very well ventilated especially as the fly sheet curves up between each peg out point. I love the tent!
@@BUSHMANandBLUE do you always use the bivvy over your bag
I often do use the Hunka bivvy especially over winter to protect my expensive down sleeping bags from the mucky dog etc. It’s so lightweight I don’t notice it in my bag.
@@BUSHMANandBLUE thinking of getting the Hunka for summer, it might contribute to reducing the condensation as the heat from your body is kept in the bivvy.
Almost makes me miss home! Looking at this tent, vs the Southern cross, seems to do ok for condensation?
It’s pretty good. Obviously in wet conditions it will suffer a bit with condensation but that’s normal. I did a full review video if you haven’t seen it.

Hi mate I don’t suppose you could offer any advice on any places to go wild camping for someone relatively new to wild camping in the yorkshire dales are or North Yorkshire moors struggling to find places to go that are fairly local to me
Not really. Just get a map and make a route then maybe go on a recce to see if there is a place to pitch👍
catching up on your videos! And I wondered why you went for the ladies Long and not men’s? How different is the cut/fit? (I’m 6ft3 so probably need 2 stitched together 🙂
I think often women’s kit will have a bigger discount in the sale and I bought this one half price. There seems to be no difference at all apart from slightly shorter hence the long for me at 6ft. You at 6’3” would be too long I think
I’m not fussy when it comes to women’s gear as often it is identical. Obviously clothing fits a bit different. But things like gaiters or boots?! As long as they fit you well

Some people say, that the footbox in the ladies is filled with more insulation due to different cryaesthesia. I would say, if the size fits, there will be no disadvantage for a male user.
BTW, does anybody know if this Abisko lite 1 can fit a 25" inflatable pad? It looks to be designed to hold only 20" pads?

I couldn’t say as I haven’t tested the Akto but I’ve tested the abisko to the max and it’s pretty awesome 😎

That mat does pretty well even sub zero with a good sleeping bag. I have the xtherm too which will cope with anything but don’t often need it.
