I love that you saved the lumber! I see so many times it just gets thrown away, only to buy new weeks later. We just built a whole pantry, with all its shelving, with just “scraps” from prior projects. Better for the environment and our wallet. Last summer my husband built a full kayak rack with left over wood from other projects.
Please protect your eyes. Love your channel. You have a calming voice . I see a tv show coming your way like This Old House. I loved that show. The original because I old.
I was 10 years old watching that show. I usually got strange stares from my dad and brother because I enjoyed it so much lol....the whole "but you're a girl thing" smh lol
We always keep a large magnet to run along the ground after pulling a bunch of nails. You never want a flat tire while doing a construction job. I'm excited to watch the progress! 🏡
Hey Joel, my wife and I watch your other channel and all of Bonnie’s siblings’ channels. Just wanted to say I appreciate your short clips of four wheeling and manly things on Bonnie’s channel and have enjoyed watching the handful of videos on your new channel. We appreciate your clean content and love getting to see what you guys are up to. Thanks for uploading and God bless.
Can’t wait to learn how to work on an old house. I have never been interested until you started your channel. I love you and Bonnie and will always support good people. ❤️❤️
Im so happy that you are doing this. Love the bloopers at the end. Also i am so excited im seeing this house from the start. cant wait to see how this comes together...and maybe Bonnie will fall in love with it.. Keep up the great work Joel!!!
There are a few ways. Here are the ones that I know: A load bearing wall is always double top plated. This means there are two 2x4’s at the top of the wall. Secondly, the wall is installed perpendicular to the house’s joists. This way it provides support for the structure above it i.e. the floor above it or the roof. Lastly, the wall will be supported with girders/columns or another load bearing wall directly below it - transferring the load to the house’s foundation/footings.
Joel, you were born to do this! Love the video! We just bought a house to remodel too, so I will be looking forward to your inspiring diy videos! Congrats!
I love your bloopers at the end. As viewers we always see the end product clean and edited but the reality is it’s not a one take and done. Your making me want to do work on my house. I’m needing kitchen reno guidance !
I’m so excited to see this channel grow and watch you make this house a home! I’d love to see some of your “lawn days” at your parents and Grandma and grandpa Griffiths as spring and summer hits too! Love that you’re branching out and doing what you love. Great job!
I love your videos! My husband is a tradesman and I never understand what he’s talking about and now I’m surprising him with my knowledge of house repairs lol👍🏻
Joel this is the best thing you could have ever done was start a UA-cam channel!!! Your the best, I’ve learned so much from you.. I tell my husband all the time if ever there was someone close to being a brother to him it’s you.. You and my husband are alike in so many ways and that’s amazing.. He too has remodel so many homes and built them as well....
Joel-y!!! This is sooo fun and you are so talented! This could be better than This Old House! I’ll bet when you get done with this reno it’s going to be beautiful and contemporary. Bonnie bonbon will want to live in it! 👍🏼😃
Joel I can't wait to see the finished product. We rehab one house it was bad, but with alot of elbow work and paint new carpets, now we have a beautiful house that we have renters they been renting the house for 15 years now. I love your new channel.
great video Joel. I shall enjoy watching your progress. I think the house will turn out really well eventually. I bet the neighbours are really pleased you are tackling it too.
I'm a housewife from Australia that has no plans on renovating a home but I love watching your videos because they are interesting and I do learn quite a bit! Good job Joel 😁
It's satisfying to remove the unwanted things out. Already learning stuffs. Not related to this subject though, but Olivia talks just like you as you explain things in details, haha😅
I love how clean and simple this vid is! (first one of yours I've seen). I understand your point on the battery-operated sawzall but 2:56 you show my utter hatred for cords - they get in the way and are a little risky when you're cutting towards them. If you're doing projects, a cordless offers so much versatility and paired a a couple batteries and a quick charger it should last you as long as you need. A small point, and either way the job gets done - thanks for a great video! (and I love the outtakes - I don't think mine are as funny as yours)
I am LOVING this channel! One thing I wonder if you could explain further is how you KNOW if it is a load bearing/non-load bearing wall. I've never understood how to know this! I'm so glad to see you are re-using the lumber that is worth saving. Even if you don't use it on this house, you're saving yourself some $ on the next one. After all, you may as well get something back from reno'ing this house! Keep up the great work, Joel. Heather🇨🇦
Great video Joel and it's nice seeing how you cut the bottom of those boards so you can reuse them somewhere as. One big thing we know from watching you on your other channel, is you will not do short cuts to make something look good. Hi Bonnie, he is going to be killin it with this new channel. Happy to support :)
Joel! This is wonderful. Nice to see you doing something that you enjoy so much. My husband is a carpenter by trade, and I have learned a lot over the years. Now he is a helicopter mechanic in the Army, and I have taken over the carpentry work. Keep it up! Love from Plymouth, Ma.
Ok ok your explanation, tools needed gives me hope and confidence. Home improvement store next stop then picking up my SON.. YEAH! Thanks. Jennifer, Decatur GA USA
Renovation vlogs are my favorite. I really hope this channel or bonnies channel really shows more in depth of the Reno and decisions on what you will be choosing and doing. Love your channel Joel!!! Excited for what's to come.
i have been watch your family since Boston was a baby. you guys are the first video i watch every morning before i start my day or even watch Bonnie's siblings. When i wastch yall i feel like im with you guys in person. Lincin is growing so much as kid. he is the mini shaggy off of scobby doo and it brings me back to my child hood. having wild hair and just living life and i love yall so much.
I think your channel is going to be amazing! When I was young girl I remember helping my dad build my very own bedroom, those are definitely memories I’m going to cherish forever as well as the skills he gave me! Not a lot of girls get the opportunity to learn the “father son” skills but I can definitely say I appreciate them because I can do much more than my husband can! I think watching you renovate this home is going to bring back some nostalgic memories! So fun!!
Yay Joel!!! Looking forward for more videos!!! I would love to see a video of your favorite tools/most used tools you own! My hubby and I are new to our house and trying to navigate what tools are important to have on hand. Thank you!!
Joel I wish you much success with your new channel !!! You can see it on your face you are in your element working on this house!!!! Your Dad & Mom didn't raise no lazy boy!!! : - )
I cant wait to watch the progress of the home remodel. I loved watching u redo your home and was sometimes bummed when the video wasn't focused on house stuff. U are great with details and i know its gonna be a beautiful home when u are finished!
love the channel. I am total beginner in building and fixing things with little experience in using some tools and doing some light projects. i am actually in the mood of wanting to fix and build things and kind of looking for my own place somewhere to fix up and live in. I definitely am glad these types of videos are here to help with know how. I also am very honest in my thoughts and i am sure you will see me comment long thoughts, but its who i am and how i process and learn. One thing could have done in the video was show how to tell if a wall was load bearing or not. Along with the process of correctly taking the wall down and finally fully removing the frame. You did a good job with the video, you could have added little more detail and explaining for those that are beginners or had projects like this. It is always good to have as much detail and information as possible. Not really fun to see someone begin to do something, then next clip is the finished look. Montages and time-lapses are way overrated and used too much. Some times you want an extra long video, showing exactly how to do something, even if it may seem boring, it honestly isn't boring and very informative and sometimes can be entertaining to see how someone goes about that task. I would totally prefer long videos showing exactly how you did something, rather than short, time-lapsed, bunch of cuts. I would rather see the joys and struggles of doing something, because in reality everyone would experience some sort of problems or difficulties doing same task and it would be nice to know that someone else experienced same thing and how they solved or worked through the problem. Some times you can't think of what to do, unless someone says something and it clicks for you. Sometimes our brains aren't that fast as others are. Just some helpful tips and thoughts for you. Don't worry about long or boring videos, YT has some how made people think no one wants to see boring videos and we have to keep them hyped and entertaining to keep the views up, that is so wrong and YT has tricked so many people in that thinking. It is always fun to see someone else doing a task or whatever, its never boring. I am sad to see a lot of people think that way, i am in same boat in that thinking too, so i know what i am talking about. Thanks for making this channel and sharing your knowledge about this stuff. I am a fan of your family vlogs, so i am glad to see your videos on this knowledge.
I love following along with a total reno! As you move into picking finishing details, I'd love to see some simple diy ideas that we could put to use as well, to update a space or something? Or simple tutorials about installing bead board or crown molding. changing light fixtures, lots of easy tasks. or even landscaping. Just a thought
I'm a subscriber on y'all main channel (as well as all of your other channels... as well as your family's channels) I'm excited to see the process. I enjoy watching videos like these. Please keep posting! I dont mind longer videos when I'm interested in the content. Love watching you guys. I've been watching for 7 years now.
As I live on my own I have no one to do any repairs for me. So Joel doing this renovation hopefully he’ll give tips on how to fix things within a home. Plus you can see how happy he is in this environment do the renovation
Hi Joel ! It's so good to see you work your passion !! I love the fact that you include Cody and the kids, I loved it when my dad let me help him, even with simple tasks like removing the nails. He is the reason I'm an architect of interior now 😉 Kuddos to you and good luck with the renovation I can't wait to see the results 👍🏻🤗 PS : I am a dear French spectator, forgive me my mistakes in language if there are any
You make it so simple...haha. .thanks for sharing . Don't forget to share your trips to buy items at hardware stores too...so fun..great vlogs . Ps hello from new Zealand
Come on Joel 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 No idea what you are talking about but I’m excited to learn alongside your other subscribers! love to you, bonnie and your beautiful kids xxxx
I think houses in England are built differently, this would be way more difficult over here, but we are loving watching this project *please keep that wood floor* 👍✅🤞👌
Joel, I have been waiting for this channel! I find you so informative and your passion for building tasks shines through. Thank you. Also, more more more!!! I feel like I missed a step between your meth test and the demo!
Love the new channel Joel. Great video. Very professionally done. The only tip I would offer for this task is, using painters tape and a sharpie to label the wires so you know where they were going to. Pre-project labeling works great. Keep up the great job.
Great job on this video! I told my husband about this channel, he loves doing projects also! I love your family channel! Especially the most recent blooper video, ha ha so relatable🤣
This is ur calling Joel. It shows on your face how happy you are doing what you love..
I love that you saved the lumber! I see so many times it just gets thrown away, only to buy new weeks later. We just built a whole pantry, with all its shelving, with just “scraps” from prior projects. Better for the environment and our wallet. Last summer my husband built a full kayak rack with left over wood from other projects.
super cool. I hate to ever get rid of good lumber.

Love the voice over. You have a calling for this. Can't wait for more! Move over Chip Gaines, Mr. Joel is in the house.
We always keep a large magnet to run along the ground after pulling a bunch of nails. You never want a flat tire while doing a construction job. I'm excited to watch the progress! 🏡

JOEL!!!! GREAT VLOG!!! I hope your vlogs will be longer in the future, as I find interesting information from you.
Such a fun channel! Congrats on starting it!
Question: How do you determine if a wall is load-bearing or not?
The blue prints should tell you.
There are a few ways. Here are the ones that I know:
A load bearing wall is always double top plated.
Oh my goodness! It’s already sooo much better and looks bigger! This is going to be an amazing before and after!
You made that look easy Joel. Can’t wait to see how this turns out. Love seeing the bloopers at the end of each video.
Joel, you were born to do this! Love the video! We just bought a house to remodel too, so I will be looking forward to your inspiring diy videos! Congrats!
I can’t wait to see when Joel finishes this home for his Bon Bon and kids haha
Can I just say how happy I am for Joel? He started a channel doing what he loves doing. So happy for you Joel. 💕
I love your bloopers at the end. As viewers we always see the end product clean and edited but the reality is it’s not a one take and done. Your making me want to do work on my house. I’m needing kitchen reno guidance !
Love this channel. Now that I have a lot of time and need to stay in my house more because of Coronavirus, I’m going to try a few projects at home.
We love it JOEL ! i would watch an even longer video please ! so fun and informative
I’m so excited to see this channel grow and watch you make this house a home! I’d love to see some of your “lawn days” at your parents and Grandma and grandpa Griffiths as spring and summer hits too! Love that you’re branching out and doing what you love. Great job!

Loving the channel, Joel! Can you discuss how to know if a wall is load bearing or not?
I love watching your videos with your family. Those beautiful kids will remember this for the rest of their lives.

Who else is looking forward to seeing this house on the market ? Just knowing Joel remodelled it; will make it a quick sale!
Joel, I have been waiting for this channel! I find you so informative and your passion for building tasks shines through. Thank you. Also, more more more!!! I feel like I missed a step between your meth test and the demo!
Great video! I would love to know how to determine if a wall is load bearing or not in a future video.
Oh Boy I have a big video coming about the Load Bearing Walls.
Post more often! We love watching this stuff! Your teaching us so much. Thank you Joely! Ha! 🙂
I'm working on ripping up carpet right now but a wall take down is definitely on the list! Thanks for the video!
Love the new channel Joel. Great video. Very professionally done. The only tip I would offer for this task is, using painters tape and a sharpie to label the wires so you know where they were going to. Pre-project labeling works great. Keep up the great job.
i love watching these kinds of videos and because its joel.. i wish it was longerrr !!!!
We got the famous Joel wink!! I missed that wink! 😁
Omg I'll watch all these just to see that wink at the end lol I miss it from the vlogs all very informative

Love the bloopers! 😄👍 Any bets that Bonnie will love the house once it’s done?
Just curious where you plugged in the sawz-all after turning off the main.
Yay Joel!!! Congratulations on the new channel !!
Great job on this video! I told my husband about this channel, he loves doing projects also! I love your family channel! Especially the most recent blooper video, ha ha so relatable🤣
Don’t think I’ll ever be removing a wall in my life but here I am 😂😂
I looooove watching these videos!! I also love that they aren’t super long.
