    Joel just wow, you are going to make that house so amazing when you're done. I can't wait until the finished project is done. You have so much energy and know how to get it all done. I love watching these videos, not that I am ever going to do any of these projects, but it's fun watching. Thank you for teaching us all how to do things.

    I can honestly say I will never have to do this in my lifetime. Having said that, I cannot miss a single episode. UA-cam needed this type of channel and you are going to do very, very well Joel. (I did get a chuckle out of a typo in the description. I was wondering who TOADY was, lol.) Heather🇨🇦

    Hi Joel, Just watched your video and really love to see what you are doing in that house. Whether you sell it or not, it is going to be a safe place to live in. Also, say HI to your dad. I saw him walking around in the background. He is so cute and you are giving him something to do with his time. We all need that right now. Good job.

    When you erected the support wall you erected it parallel to the trusses? We're the ceiling batons holding it or was it in an empty space on the sheet rock? Cuz if it was just sitting parallel to the trusses on empty sheet rock it wasn't really a support wall.

    • @TodaysTask
      @TodaysTask  2 роки тому +1

      It looks a little funny in the video, but the trusses parallel to the beam are part of an addition to the house. The beam is supporting the roof trusses perpendicular to the beam. God eye.

  • @mick8018
    @mick8018 2 роки тому +3

    I don't understand what these new beams are supporting...
    Your existing truss roof was designed to transfer all loads from your ceiling and roof to the outside structural walls they load on.
    The existing "beam" you cut away in sections was cosmetic, and used to create a separation between rooms in the previous lay-out of the home.
    What are your new LVL beams supporting?

    • @TodaysTask
      @TodaysTask  2 роки тому

      There are roof trusses perpendicular to the ones you see that the beam will be holding up.

    Joel I’m a little confused earlier in the video you mention that the load bearing wall runs perpendicular to the trusses. But the beam you replace is parallel to the trusses. So then how do you know the beam is load bearing? Thanks and I love the content you’re putting out!

    • @TodaysTask
      @TodaysTask  3 роки тому

      You are correct, The trusses that look parallel are for the addition of the house and are not being supported by this particular beam. The beam is holding the trusses heading back into the house. Good Eye.

    Great video, very helpful. For existing home with load bearing wall, Can you join two small beams using metal connector between the two together to make one long beam to get rid of a column holding up the weight?

    • @TodaysTask

      No, you will need tats column or you can buy lvl that is long enough. The longer the beam, the tales the beam.

    Hi, I am going to do a similar job, like DIY, the engineering told me to install an LVL 2-9-1/2", they are too expensive in my city, I was planning to use a 2x12" SPF dimensional lumber (Home Depot), what do you think?

    • @TodaysTask
      @TodaysTask  3 роки тому

      I am not sure, I would definitely talk with an engineer, but I am sure they will give you some guidance.

    • @brunomourasilva6247
      @brunomourasilva6247 3 роки тому

      the engineering I talked to works for the wood company, lol. A normal 2x12" cost $45, I need two. The Lvl 2x9-1/2" cost $250 each. people say, I should be fine but I am not 100% confident.

    Great job, Sir. Thanks for sharing. I have question: Can one replace an 18" LVL beam with a smaller one, say something around 12"? The reason I ask this question is that I want to do a renovation in my house I have been told to install 3*18" LVL 2.0E beams, but that will show up too much on the ceiling, which I don't like. I want to hide the beams in the ceiling as much as possible. So can I put, for instance, 4 LVL 12" beams (or any thing smaller than 18")?

    • @TodaysTask
      @TodaysTask  4 роки тому

      If an engineer has specked an 18" LVL that is what I would go with, but there are other options. 1 you can recess the beam in the ceiling and hang the ceiling from it the same way I hung the floor joists. (There are tons of videos about this on youtube) 2 you can change it to a steel wide flange beam, these are heavy but shorter and take up less head room. I would have an engineer give you specks for both options. Have fun on your project you won't regret doing it.

      There is really no one way to tell. You have to look at the entire house and roof trusses and floor joists to really know, but the wall we replace the beam in used to an exterior wall of the house and all exterior wall are load bearing.

    What's the housing market like in UT? If you sell it, do you think you will make back the money you spent on the house? $200K+ on a termite infested home plus repairs. Cost of repairs would be something to include in the videos. Give people a good idea about the approximate cost.
