Of course the first time I watched it I didn't saw it, because autism still loked as something so far of me, bot now that I'm watching it again it is so clear to me that Sawako (and also probably Ryu) is autistic. Is not just the lack of social awarnes, but also her relationship with lenguage (understanding things to literally and saying things in a way other people can interpratate diferent), the fact her learning proces is clearly diferent from hers clasemates (that's why she can teach so well, because she studies looking for diferent ways to explain it), the way she dress (she wearing the full uniform Even when is super hot, or the general structure of her dreses), the fact she has problems identifing her feelings, she having a routin (with the flowers), she doing reserch to understan "basic" things (reading scary stories, looking for the word "special" in a dictionary, watching movies to know what to expect) her facial expresions not matching what she wants to expres... I love her before, but now I love her more because knowing I'm autistic I can see myself being portrayed in her.
Ryu is also autistic because of his montone voice, he always being tired, his incapibility of remember names without an emotional atach, his clear special interest, his lack of facial expresions, the way he can notice signs in the people he care about before anyone else, his relationship with Pedro(Maru-chan), and the way he expres himself. And if you think about it, it was easy for Kazehaya and Chizuru to conect with Sawako because they were already close to an autistic person.
P.d. I'm not a native speaker, please not be mean about My grammar and spelling.

I watched the first 4 episodes and I cried at least once an episode! Her struggles are so relatable! I need a little break before I watch more because it is really intense, but I love it so far.

I fell in love with this anime and have watched it multiple times. Sawako is the sweetest person ever and I identify with her so much.

As a introvert I had a hard time finding friends when I was still in school. I do get along with my classmates but I can’t say they are my friends. When I watched the first season where Sawako is trying to connect with her friends, it really hit me like a truck. Even now I can’t stop tearing up when I rewatch.

last month i rewatched the first season and immediately I was like *oooooh she's on the spectrum too thats y she was so relatable*! Just like i wasnt aware of how i am autistic when i was a teen, i couldnt see it in Sawako.
And also back then I used to hope so much I'd find someone like Kazehaya or be "perfect" like him n now I look back and I was the anime, with more self-esteem than ever, and I really want to tell my old self that it's gonna be ok without that

while not directly autism related, I can definitely recommend Persona 5 Royal and Strikers to anyone on the spectrum. While the game's subject matter doesn't hold back and can be dark sometimes, it does deal with psychological themes that maybe some of those on the spectrum can easily connect with and relate to (even if you don't usually play these sorts of video games). I know it definitely connected with me, and this game has helped me through a recent rough point of my life.
There is a particular character that you have to save who has become a shut in due to her personal traumas, and while they dont necessarily say that shes autistic she does seem highly autism coded as you get to know her.
(I will put a sexual abuse and suicide trigger warning for the first dungeon/story arc though, just to be safe. Be extra careful playing this game if you're sensitive to that particular subject matter.)

I too have been struggling in making relationships due to feeling like a burden to others. Guess I got work to do...
Be fun if you did more analysis with other anime (which in your previous vids I watched you've watched other anime) with characters with (possible) autistic traits. Some anime with socially awkward people, I question if they're on the spectrum or not. I question whether to seek diagnoses or not...
Anyway, thanks for the vid. :3 I enjoyed Kimi ni Todoke. I watched both the anime and read the manga. Not the live action though and I'm intimidated to try it. Very sweet series.

Him: don’t look at me like that!
Her: Oh sorry, I got carried away, I’ll be careful not to stare at you for more than three seconds.
Him: that’s not what I meant, you made me blush
      ❤😊

I watched it before my diagnosis as a kid and it never registered to me she was that, I just felt she was so relatable. Now many years after my diagnosis and rewatching it I noticed instantly how autistic she wasnin the first episode by taking the ”will ghosts appear if she participates?” comment literally 😭😭

As much as this show does sound interesting, I think I still prefer
Having Stephannie watch it for me and telling me what she learned. 😇
    It does make me a bit sad to hear some of the self-doubt struggles endured;
Note that no one has to be a snazzy UA-camr with a beAUTIful merch line
In order to be someone that people enjoy having for a friend, and please don't feel pressured
To be impressive or creative or sacrificial in order for a potential buddy to enjoy quality time. 🙂
[Side note: I thought I posted this comment here 45 minutes ago,
But after a very confused reply to it, I just discovered it went on the wrong video. 😅
It went on a random UA-cam Shorts video I had watched, so apparently the app mistook that
Where I wanted the remark to be was there... anyway, it's here now for you to look at. 😂]

do you translate your video in 17 langage all by yourself, or with the help of other people , or by an app maybe ?(its very hard to explain certain idea for non english speaker, alot of people in neurodivergent community know about double empathy probleme or the pathological demand avoidance, for example, but it is the kind of idea that people who are not concerned by, wont look at, if it is not explained in their own langage, thanks for that)

I watched the live action version on Netflix. Never saw the anime. I did not view her as autistic, at least in the Netflix version. She’s shy and self-conscious. I took it as she got labeled as weird early on in school and name called Sadako . The show said 4th grade, and it just stuck. Since she was shy and did not know how to stand up for herself she just accepted it to survive. I knew kids like this. They were not necessarily autistic. But socially awkward. They rolled with the mild bullying because at least it didn’t get worse if they did. The emotionally autistic kids tended to have the problem of no filter. Overly honest and sometimes inflexible. That is why they had no friends. But I realize when you go from anime to live action, changes must occur for it to work. The Netflix live action comes off more like a high school drama. I liked it. I think if she came off as highly autistic, it might not work as well. So I viewed her as shy, socially awkward and just trying to make it through school by accepting that people called her Sadako and rumored that she talked to ghosts. Mean, but kids do things like that sometimes when someone is outside the mold.

I watched the show like 4 months ago and is my favourite anime, and today I went on netflix to watch a Kdrama but I see that there was already the live action and I was so exited when I first see the trailer and now i'm no the 4th chapter and I feel so identified with kuronuma
And when I was watching the live action I made a joke like "what if kuronuma is autistic? " lmao and then you posted this video and it feels so weird bcuz I thought some of the things tha you said on the video lol
(btw sorry for my english if anyone reads this)

I was born in 1944, there seems to be two generations of adults with autism; those before DSM 4 or 5 and those born after either DSM definition and understanding.
We are almost from two different worlds and experiences.

@@StephanieBethany it’s an anime series from the late 90’s. Only 13 “layers”. It’s gets deep, starts off dark, can be confusing at times but is also very poignant. Selfless is always a word that comes to mind when I think of Lain. It kinda wild how it was made in the late 90s but is more relevant now today than even back then.
I feel in love and watched the entire thing back in 2001 and grew extremely attached to and identified with the lead character Lain Iwakura. Some have speculated that Lain is coded as autistic for years. Kinda was like an Ah ha! moment when I came to my own realization that I’m autistic a few years ago.
