I taped it first, and then gave it a .002" spin after just to validate the setup and make sure there weren't any high blades, etc. I have found the factory grinds to be very true so far.
This is a ridiculous amount of work to get a reel mower to cut/work right but I don’t have to do it and I’m glad I don’t. If it took this long to get good cut on a new mower my super would’ve told them to take it back.
JD units are the worst ones of the 3 major I feel sorry for guys trying to make these things cut good without SIP grinders. Its impossible so most guys just settle for good enough
That Ecentric though sure makes life easier to square them up than the Toro 1600's when you have to adjust drums on those it is a total crap shoot. I have to say working with T and JD I prefer Toro overall but the JD units have more precise adjustments. Would love to see them both put there heads together and develop a stellar cutting unit!
Nice work JP you saved those idler rollers they will live a nice long life now!! Tracking has improved i imagine.
Good stuff! Looking forward to more content👏
Have you ever worked on a JD 2653B
Maybe I missed it at the beginning John. But did you grind the reel first and or tape it?

Can't see in the video, do you lift or support the operator handle so that weight does not affect adjustment?

Haha! Factory misadjustment. Failure to grease.
OK, just saw your technique

I just bought this same model yesterday. Where are you located? I’d love to have you do work on mine if I ever need it.
