Переглядів 1175 років тому
We had a brief interruption while the track was cleared, but my patience was rewarded and I was able to run down a few cars near the end. Laguna Seca was a big check off the bucket list for sure! Thanks to Everyone involved with putting Miata Reunion together!

An overview of paralleling cutting units on the surface plate - I forgot to mention that setting height of cut should be done after paralleling, not before.
Peerless 7000 Relief Grind Setup
Переглядів 1,7 тис.6 років тому
This is an in-depth description of how we relief grind reels on the Peerless 7000 at AAC. Relief grinding, and using bedknives with hardened cutting edges, maintains cut quality longer, allowing us to reduce the frequency of touch-up grinds. Have you ever worked on a JD 2653B
This is a ridiculous amount of work to get a reel mower to cut/work right but I don’t have to do it and I’m glad I don’t. If it took this long to get good cut on a new mower my super would’ve told them to take it back.
@jpturf Hey john I just sharpened our 260sl. I went ahead parelleled just like you said on a granite benchplate. The problem Im having when I put the reel chain on something is out of round or moving I adjust deflection on chain to 1/4 inch spin the reel 180 degrees and the chain isreally loose. Also it seems its causing my reel to go out of round. Any idea what the issue is? Sprockets bad?
Haha! Factory misadjustment. Failure to grease.
I'm a machinist so I can understand the precision he is describing. But good God it's just fucking grass. Golf isn't that damn important.
Hey there, @shawnbottom4769! Thanks for sharing your opinion with everyone here! Here are some facts about golf you may be interested to learn: Over 25 million people played golf at the 17,000 golf courses in the US last year (about 8% of the population) and the golf industry generates over $100 billion of direct economic activity annually. The industry’s indirect and induced economic effects are even larger at $125 billion annually, for a total of $225 billion total economic impact to our economy. Golf is a fairly significant industry in our country, which provides jobs to over 1.65 million people nationwide. Feel free to check out NGF.org for more information.
I harken back to the days of ancient Atco and slightly newer Jacobson mowers and using cigarette paper to set the bed knife. Boy the hours spent sharpening and lapping in those old walk-behinds. These things are a whole 'nuther game altogether.
@@JPsTurfThat's the same guy going through multiple lawn services every year. I do stump grinding for several courses. Great way to meet people with money and show them my product. There's are reason why they have a mandatory membership in some neighborhoods, that way they can budget and keep everything looking nice and people coming back. Good luck to the guy next time he needs help with a project and there is no info/explanation.
Love the videos John keep them coming
Love the videos John keep them coming.
Maybe I missed it at the beginning John. But did you grind the reel first and or tape it?
I taped it first, and then gave it a .002" spin after just to validate the setup and make sure there weren't any high blades, etc. I have found the factory grinds to be very true so far.
Nice work JP you saved those idler rollers they will live a nice long life now!! Tracking has improved i imagine.
OK, just saw your technique
Can't see in the video, do you lift or support the operator handle so that weight does not affect adjustment?
JD units are the worst ones of the 3 major I feel sorry for guys trying to make these things cut good without SIP grinders. Its impossible so most guys just settle for good enough
That Ecentric though sure makes life easier to square them up than the Toro 1600's when you have to adjust drums on those it is a total crap shoot. I have to say working with T and JD I prefer Toro overall but the JD units have more precise adjustments. Would love to see them both put there heads together and develop a stellar cutting unit!
I just bought this same model yesterday. Where are you located? I’d love to have you do work on mine if I ever need it.

Good stuff! Looking forward to more content👏
Nice to see ya back sir! Motorcycles now! I am envious of all the amazing places to ride up there!
Hey, Steve! Hope all is well at home and the ballpark!
Great video, John. Ive been struggling with these john deere qa5 cutting units. What would be a good bedknife attitude cutting bent grass? I have them set up per john deere specs around 9 degrees some more but still dont like the aftercut. Seems by your video your knife attitude is alot flatter than ours.
Some great info in these videos regardless of what equipment and grinders one has. Thanks JP!
Enjoyed the video. I'm new to grinding my own reels, I have 14 blade Toro dpa reels.i have them sharp and going to begin the relief on them. Do u have any ideas or pointers I may need. By the way I have same grinder. Thanks again
Joshua Coles When relieving 14 or 15 bladed reels, I only back the grinding wheel off about .025” from bottomed out to set the grind angle. Seems scary at first, but clearance is clearance. Just take your time and inspect all the reel blades for any weld spatter, etc. which may catch the guide finger as it slides along. You will need to run the 1/4” wide wheel as well, and keep up on the indexer-to-wheel adjustment, especially at first as the wheel gets the bevel worn into it.
@@JPsTurf thank you so much, for the videos and quick response. Have a great season
Thanks for taking the time John, nice job!
Great job jp appreciate the info. I hope you get the surface plate vid out soon Id really like to hear your thoughts.
Great job! Looking forward to seeing the rest of them.
