I can’t be the only one who also thinks it’s kind of disgusting to say things like “they will hurt the group by their weight gain” or “they drag down the visuals of the group” because it really shows the true nature of the people who comment such things. They don’t care about the music nor the idols. They just want to see pretty dolls and everyone that doesn’t fit their standard isn’t worthy. If it wasn’t like that, they wouldn’t act like an “imperfect” could be a threat to the success of a group. I have listened to K-pop for years now but I have never managed to get used to how cruel all those people are to idols who they claim to love.

Actually most of the time although we can literally be underweight, people would call us chubby and plump because we look rounder than others. Like when I was like 9-10 everyone would repeatedly criticize how round I was, always mentioning that I took dance classes but still looked so chubby and should stop eating so much. The funny thing was that I weighed like 22kg and I was around 135cm, so I was really underweight. Like it got to the point that I would only be eating dinner everyday and just rely on water. But I learnt that other's opinions don't matter and that I am perfect the way I am and should not let others depreciate my worth. 🥰
i also got called fat and overweight when in BMI standart im actually in normal weight stage, it bcz i've a big upper arm, chest and bottom, aside from thos three my body is quite small even my stomach actually pretty flat and my hand and lower arm too, my hand, leg and lower arm also smalled than my cousin who is thinner than me, even if touch my leg specially my thight u can feel its quite hard since i often had exersice, and recently my father also complain that i getting heavier when he pick up me using motorcycle meanwhile i lost 2-3 kilo of my weight

It's honestly shocking what these people call "chubby". In my whole time of being a kpop stan, I've only ever seen one or two idols who actually were chubby, while the others were just thin instead of super thin. ffs

I remembered Idols are not just singing and dancing, that's a singer and dancer jobs, in Japan, Korea, China, idols are expected to excel at everything from singing, acting to influencing, etc, and sadly to their visual as well, that's why till now no matter how amazing idols vocals is, some people in the industry still didn't saw them as a singer/artist, for them they just an "entertainers". This is because the concept of Idols should be "perfect" ingrained in their head, I remembered reading some of Korean comment that say "artist, athlete, actor, musician get Idolized because the fans idolized them for their works, while Idols debuted as idol even before showing anything they called themselves an "Idol" so people will expect something (talent or visual) worthy enough to be idolize"

Esto me entristeze y confunde muchísimo :( yo estoy pasando por la recuperación de un desorden alimenticio que comenzó durante la cuarentena, me restringí a tal punto que perdí mi ciclo menstrual, cuando salió el video musical de Nayeon me emocioné porque vi que era muy delgada y que se veía como yo actualmente y con aún camino por recorrer para recuperar mi salud hormonal.... el que piensen que ella tiene un cuerpo no apto me hace dudar si el que yo este subiendo de peso no es lo correcto o que me vaya a ver no bonita :/
I would say accounts such as this one are part of the problem. You are explaining weight gain as being "due to teenage hormonal changes" whereas gaining 2kg is not something requiring any kind of an excuse or reasoning behind it, especially when the starting point was skinny/underweight. Most people's weight fluctuates because it is normal for human beings. None of the idols mentioned here are near being overweight.

I don't get netizens like they are the one asking idols to loose weight and go on diet but when some idols are too skinny they are "worried". All those Idols are cute and beautiful in their own ways and some are just teens. Let them live their life and eat what they want to eat. They don't drag anybody down like some say. You listen to kpop for the music not for the idols' beauty or weight. People need to stop doing this because that affect the idols a lot. And btw Jiwoo's dance skills are still the best.
I knew Jiwoo was going to get hate for her weight. Like he’s 16 and honestly looks healthy. I mean yeah, maybe she’s not the best dancer and her weight might (I don’t agree or disagree) hinder her dancing. But honestly, he doesn’t just fine and honestly makes me happy to see not all k-pop idols looking unhealthy (if they are on strict diets).
Honestly, when did being skinny make you a great performer. Even Luna (formerly of f(x) talked about not even wanting to see comments talking about her, since she got a lot of fat shaming and a lot of it about her legs, which she’s never been fat. I'm not an expert but I completely disagree with the fact that a little "extra" weight hinders dancing (I'm not talking about an extreme amount of weight though). If someone is skinny and malnourished they will not have enough energy to perform as best they can. It is true that korean society believes idols have better body "lines" when dancing and more visible/clean movements when they are skinnier, however being a little heavier than the average idol would not affect your ability to dance. And it's ridiculous to me, because being "a little heavier than the average kpop idol" really just means "being normal".
And on top of that, the fact that these idols are still teenagers... like, I kid you not, if I was subject to the type of harsh criticism these poor girls face at such a young age, I would be absolutely ruined mentally. Even now I'm insecure about my body. Every young girl is. But I can't even imagine what these idols go through daily; what they have to tolerate...

Personally I think this girls gain weight because of the stress to debut or to comeback and the bad comments don’t help them but have on the mental health an impact. We have to be proud of them no matter what because they’re bold, talented and they deserve to be happy🤍
It's pretty crazy that Korean netizens are hating on Korean idols for having round faces. Round faces seem pretty common among Korean people. And that doesn't automatically make you fat. Gaining 10-15 pounds doesn't make you fat either. These standards are crazy. Tbh, I'm disappointed, but not surprised. As a black person, I find that it is common for other black people to make fun of you for having characteristically black traits (darker skin, kinky hair, etc) People try so hard to reject and suppress their natural features that they end up bullying others for having them.
