In the Kpop industry, we see more and more foreign idols make a debut in groups and appear on TV shows.
However, many people feel like companies and fans are biased towards Korean idols and mistreating foreign idols in some ways.
So, is it just another K-pop myth that foreign idols are mistreated or is it really happening?

Yes, that plays a small part in the hate some Japanese idols get, but that is not the major reason why they are specifically getting hate from the Knetz. Reading all the top comments(with the most likes) from numerous videos featuring the Japanese idols, most of them either defend the idols or they criticize their nasal voice and how the company didn't train them enough to have good pronunciations. This video showed all the comments that got 0-3 likes, which I don't think really represents what the majority of the Knetz think...

As a Korean, I do agree, but it’s mostly to Japanese cause of the history with Japan and korea, I personally believe that Japanese should not be healed by their ancestors mistakes (as long as they don’t agree/support what their ancestors did)

Before Lisa was treated fairly, she was mistreated until she become popular. Lisa's salary was smaller than the three member. The reason why she is the riches bp member is because of her solo endorsements and youtube channel.
All most every countries, foreigner's tax rate is much higher than resident. It is tax law. Lisa is richest because she is not Korean. Due to political reason, Korean idols banned in China. Also she has huge popularity in Thailand too. So she can make money in china and Thailand. Other members only make money in Korea. That is main difference.

Yg doesn't put so much restriction unlike other members. They are more free than lisa. Yg want to control lisa, to show off the brands superior and also about her contract.

Yes other girls can't earn but china is not the only place. But anyway lisa is the last member to even step in China before other girls (chaesoo went to China first then jennie for her gentle). But lisa already started to be big in China way before other girls with her attention dance. And it is not easy to get China endorsement, because China have their own popular artists for promo. You can only get when you on their A level artists or bigger. A random kpop idol foreign can't also get. Like for sports Messi is so popular and have many deal.

Most big entertainment companies do give numerous Korean AND English lessons (some even teach Chinese), so it really comes down to the idols themselves to either try to learn them or not because they have the resources(foreign language teachers)

@@orangeorange846 if foreign idols of the same ethnicity are talking among themselves then there's nothing wrong with using their native tongue. bilinguals do it all the time despite knowing the other language. fans need to learn to understand that they're humans, not korean speaking dolls, and that they were xx nationality (and also grew with xx culture and language) before coming to korea. plus, it's not the end of the world for those fans since subtitles will be uploaded.
Foreign idols often times have a big international fanbase, but their companies often don't treat them well.
Some fans think that by following their bias/groups,buying some albums and lightsticks,those sick minds want their idols follow their instructions but they forget that they are their followers not their idols it's fan own choice 🥶🥵🥶🥵
For the Shuhua thing: They all choose their lines and since Shuhua wasn’t confident in Korean and is still learning she always preferred less

I'm German so I only speak that and English but I still enjoy Korean, Japanese and some French songs (I haven't heard that much but 100% of those that I have I liked) [Stream Viola] hehe, anyways so for me there is no difference between this and that language, even language is beatiful and unique.

I don't agree that the mistreatment issues in Lisa's case are baseless. When Lisa debuted, she got paid less compared to the Korean members of Blackpink and was the least promoted member especially in South Korea. There were also a lot times when she got the least appealing and weirdest outfits when they attended music shows (thankfully, she was able to pull them off because of her good body proportions).
Now Lisa is famous internationally but it does not mean that she no longer gets mistreated. With regard to promotions and advertisements she's now getting left and right, let me clarify one thing. YG did not get them for Lisa. Lisa earned them all. Those international ambassadorship she got are because brands want her and not because YG gave them to her. Even the magazine covers are all sponsored by the brands and not because YG got them for her. In fact, I think YG is strict when it comes to Lisa accepting magazine covers. Remember in 2019 Bazaar Thailand cover. the magazine had to wait for 5-6 months just for the company to allow Lisa to grace the cover. Think of it this way, if they want to promote Lisa why would they not allow her to do the cover if it's gonna promote her? So do not say all the contracts Lisa are handed over to her because she is favored by the company, that is simply not true.
In fact, the improvement on the company's treatment on Lisa just happened now because she's earning money for them and because she can no longer be ignored as she is one if not the most famous female K-Pop idol internationally. The popularity she has now is because she worked hard for it

Lisa first foreign endorsement was AIS (right after yg scandal happen and they were about to go bankrupt) and that AIS took 1yr to get lisa. Yg control lisa the most since the beginning. And lisa first korean even was bvlgari event in korea. Before that yg never let her go.
And now yg using lisa as money maker and not treating her as artists unlike other members. They couldn't even buy copyright during the DVD of japan tour, so lisa performance is not their in the video.

We cannot ignore the fact that Lisa and Tzuyu were mistreated before they became famous. Especially Tzuyu flag incident which was blown out of proportion and jyp mishandling all for her. And Lisa getting racist and threatening letters from people and grp chat made wherein they say such shit abt her and what all will they do I mean sadist at best. and YG literally not doing anything to protect till it was pushed by fans. In case of blackpink I feel all are mistreated as they are never protected by YG. And I as a fan of blackpink can never forget the first 2 yrs they were mistreated like anything. After du du du du immense success and world wide popularity, they started giving them attention or they would have been another 2NE1 in YG who were mistreated and never given credits for their talent rather bashed by saying they were ugly.

Tzuyu's biggest mistreatment is her name people wrongly Pronounce, They couldv'e always given her a stage name like BLACKPINK Rosé was never her name until blackpink it was Chaeyoung / Roseanne and Jihyo was Supposed to be Jisu but is acceptable

In Lisa's case, she was mistreated until #respectLisa came about and her overwhelming popularity brought gigs seeking her presence(and apparently she makes far less at her base than her Korean members). Never mind all the laws and political climate preventing other idols from working in certain countries, imo if it could be helped she wouldn't have been pushed into the spotlight. Anyways, racially motivated mistreatment and biases certainly exist and are prevalent in their society but I can't really speak for the industry since I'm not a part of it. As an onlooker, it certainly seems that way though.
Shuhua told Chinese fans to stop. She also told them not to think she was bad with the members. She still doesn't feel sure. Her main desire was to be an actor, but she also said hyuna inspired him to become an Idol. Shuhua doesn't mind at all. Soyeon said she'd give shuhua the most important parts on purpose. And what doesn't match her voice, why would Soyeon give it to her? It's as simple as that. Please stop this.

It goes more into mismanagement. The fact that she has to bend her kegs more she would have expected when seeing the line up. She is given more edge when it comes to dancing to try and accommodate that fact. In edge she doesn't always have to bend her legs as much which is a good thing for her. And in vocals, I think Tzuyu gets as many lines as she should. Not to say she is a bad vocalist by any means. But the others are better. When she sings she tends to get more memorable parts to compensate for that fact.

@@rizwanamrahim I think it's mostly bcoz of height. But there are also a lot of photos where she is at the front. But I think Tzuyu is definitely well treated. She has good amount of lines even though she's a sub-vocal. From all TWICE members I think Jeongyeon is mistreated. She has lesser lines even though she is a lead, also her dresses are sometimes just bad. Maybe it will all change in 'Taste of Love'.

Well its kind of a special case with Shuhua and cube doesn't get a say in what she gets to sing. Cube has given all production rights to the members so they all have a say in what they get to sing. Shuhua isnt confident in her singing so she asks Soyeon to give her lesser lines. Shuhua is much more confident in her dancing so she likes to display that more than she does her singing. But when she gets more confident, I can guarantee you that we will hear Shuhua hitting high notes and getting tons of lines.
Agreed. In Hwaa she was in center for part of the dance break. I think that is more her focus for now. I hope she will take on more lines when she is comfortable and isn't pressured into it earlier by fans.
I'm back from watching a So what line distribution (no one asked) and I just realised that the line distribution of (some) groups that have foreign members (no hate) is unfair.
Hangeng, ex-SJ member, was extremely mistreated. It is very sad, but he built the paths for future international idols.

Don't forget that main rapper is also a lead vocalist , she also have to fill vocal line ,and in many songs she is no. 1 for line distribution, when Lisa gets more line you say we need main rapper to rap (I also want that but it's only possible if some of her vocal lines are fairly distributed with the sub vocalist and other lead vocalist cuz it's not possible to give whole lines{ I mean both more vocal lines and rap line} to one member) and when she's on top of the line distribution you say it's ok unless it's Lisa .
And tbh Lisa and Tzuyu both were mistreated back then for your kind info. It's about their hard work that make them popular (I know the company also played a major role in this) but still they were mistreated or not treated equally when they were not popular. You're talking about Lisa getting best outfits , it's the whole different situation after some blinks protested about getting weird outfits . Back then if you see she was given some weird dresses during award shows but she was able to pull them because of her body proportions.

Tzuyu is not mistreated by netizens nor fans but it is obviously mistreated by JYPE. It’s true that she got better treatment when she just debuts and that’s because she is famous at that time with support from the company. But after the first two years especially last year she is mistreated by getting least screen time and lines despite as a visual and no proper makeup and style for her. Tzuyu is famous because the love from fans and people around the world. JYPE should be more appreciative. We are not asking for extra support but at least fair treatment to all members.

Shuhua got a lot of lines on their "newer" song, Moon, and got a few repeating lines on their newest song, Last Dance. Also Shuhua is speaking Korean pretty well for being Taiwanese! They are an amazing group, so appreciate them, I'm sure they'll change a bit in their next comeback or over time!

If they start hating on a foreign idol, then the company might turn its back on them. But not all foreign idols are treated that way.
You should check the updated version of hwaa line distr. Where she sings the last 'hwaa' which gives her 10.8 seconds near to soojin 14.8 but far from Soyeon 38.4 so maybe fair or maybe not
I am not agreeing with you on tzuyu case. I believe she is being mistreated. She gets the least screen timing even though she is the visual and does not have any individual activity plus she has to suffer during twice dance's she always has to bend her knees in order to match the other members height's and she is the lead dancer of the group but never gets to be in the spotlight.
As we know twice mainly focus on there dance and they have many dance break but tzuyu never gets to have one or be in spotlight she is always in the back or at the edge.
She doea not get to be in the centre even during photoshoot because of her height

Kpop idols promote in Japan too, but I don't think they fully speak Japanese in interviews. They're still getting money from Japanese buyers so according to Korean's logic, Kpop idols also need to learn Japanese too before they can promote there as well..

It’s very much true only reason Lisa a Tuyzu are treat great to some sort of Degree is because is because they’re the most popular members of their group, which means their company is making a lot of money out of this these girls from all the endorsements they allow them to take up. All the money the money the girls make their company is taking a percentage from them. So all the modelling and ambassador roles YG is letting Lisa take, YG is taking let’s say 10% of every paycheque. That’s why YG is letting these girls take every job sent their way, instead of them being idols. Instead of the girls doing that job and having more than one comeback a year. YG is choosing easy money.
