So stranger things season 4 felt…bad. It just felt rushed. The dialogue between the characters, not only these two, but all of them, just felt like trailer lines. My mom and myself actually traded off writing duties a lot as we could blatantly tell what was going to be said, word for word. “This could mean the end of the world” etc etc etc Max, there was a previous character where we knew her backstory and we had something to grab on to that we knew. Mainly this is the character Sadie Sink plays (watch The Whale, if you haven’t already) so we understood her. Eddie was the new lovable character, so they basically had to shoehorn him into it. In retrospect, it felt like he was a scapegoat/side quest character that was put in place to take up screen time for the other characters, while they focused on Max. If his scenes were taken out, nothing would really be changed, as again, the focus was Max. You could cut it in half and have the same story, while also being tighter. Overall your analysis is spot on with good examples to back it up, and don’t be afraid of long form media. You can make a 5 hour long review. As long as you explain yourself like you do here, you really shouldn’t have any issue. Mauler uploads multi hour reviews, not even including EFAP. Great job!
You pointed out a lot of things that bug me about Eddie's "arc". This coward angle didn't make a lot of sense. We see Eddie not shy away from confrontation in his normal day to day life when he openly antagonizes his fellow students in the cafeteria. Even he seems to realize how out of character he's being when he says "I did the thing that I do now. Apparently." What would've worked better and wouldn't have needed a lot of changes is leaning into his guilt of "letting Chrissy die". Of being powerless. This guilt could've turned into a need to protect others. Then when he jumped into the lake after the others it's because he didn't want their lives to weigh on his conscience if something happened to them. And later it would've been clearer that he tried to protect Dustin. I think it would've led to a more impactful arc that wasn't so heavy handed. Really enjoyed the video and the comparison with Max.
I think running away for Eddie is important to have unclear results because it's a natural reaction. Fight or flight, neither are really bad choices; and you could argue, if Eddie was captured by the police he would've instead gotten an alibi when the next 3 or 4 other kids get murderlated giving the kids another layer of protection with the police from the Jock Mob instead of just avoiding both.
thank you for the writing tips, excited to learn more from you!!
Fantastic analysis. Lots to think about that I hadn't thought about before and very well presented and argued.
Very good analysis, didn't notice these flaws at first sight

I heard an interesting theory that Eddie would return as a version of Kas the betrayer in the next season, but that was just a head cannon I'm sure.
Cool beans.
i think hes suicidal
