I learned how to workout properly when I was a kid by reading bodybuilding mags. Slow and controlled negative reps and explosive positive reps is how I've always done it but over the years watching people do "bro" reps or half reps for the entirety of their workout started confusing the shit outta me to the point where I wasn't sure who was right and who was wrong. In other words, I'm very thankful to have found this channel and that it exists. I feel whole again.

Nice. Sounds like you followed some Mike Mentzer...with the slower reps. Some of the big names dont like the slower reps and say it can cause an injury..forget who that was. I think Lee Haney. MM was all ab High intensity and then a lil more down time for the recovery, then growth and full system rest. Can also do longer time under tension, but main thing is what works for the individual and how you react and grow. As Mike said, you want to the the right amount to initiate the muscle growth. Main thing is lifting more at next session or another rep at same weight. Whatever that takes, is what is best for the person. I lose motivation i guess, but have been sticking with a split program now for a bit since i was forbidden to lift after a corneal transplant back in May. Using Rocky and Rocky II albums to give me a boost. Always loved the bodybuilding mags and workin on physique but takes dedication...serious dedication.

Milk is the GOAT of weight gain. I remember drinking 1liter of milk a day and I gained around 10kg of weight in about 6 months. What was crazy was I was still fairly lean, I gained fat obviously, but I still had visible abs and still had obvious muscle definition despite going from 85kg to 95kg. So yes, it is the bulking food of the gods

    • @dianapennepacker6854
      @dianapennepacker6854 Місяць тому

Milk is god damn God tier ounce for ounce nutritionally. Few things just in general compare to milk.
I'm terminally ill. Had people try to get me off it for some Nut Juice. (Nuts don't have teets. You crush them. Juice!! Not milk!)
Anyway thing is. None of them compare or are misleading, because you actually have to absorb it. Looking at you pea milk..
Then we are figuring out fat from dairy isn't as bad as we thought.
Oh fun fact. Skim milk hydrates you the best according to science after a long physical activity.
It even beats our pedialyte. Turns out all the macros and micro nutrients help, and work together for your body to recover. Although I don't remember if the studies knew what milk exactly had that others don't.
List went Pedialyte, sports drinks, coconut milk and water melon juice, freshly squeezed juices, and then and only thenl water. Which I think was mineral, and not bottled.
Then bottled water. Then Tea, coffee and I think beer made the list somehow.
They did mention full milk was great too, but forgot where on the list it fell.
Just an other reason why milk rocks. For those who are lactose? And those who aren't but want protein? Both Fairlife and Lactaid Protein have 3 grams more protein, are lactose intolerant, and taste basically the same. No difference to me outside a slight texture with Lactaid.
You can even use them in cooking the same. I highly recommend both. Fairlife has less carbs than normal milk too with more vitamin A, and is thinner than Lactaid.
Anyway thought I'd share. Just google "Skim milk found to hydrate the best."
Oh by the way to be fair to other drinks. This was after long physical activities. Probably don't need it while sitting in an office, and forgot to drink.

There is a debate about legumes. Main problem is: the amount of proteins is good, but there are mediocre type of amino acids. Soya is enemy nr 1 there - lots of useless (from muscle building point of view) amino acids, that can't be used in muscle building - bad aminograme. And still you must digest all of it and take care of rather bad byproducts of digesting proteins.

Tofu isn't great for protein; I would recommend textured soy protein (soya chunks). It's basically heat extruded soybean meal after soybean oil has been extracted. 100g of the stuff has 50-55g protein and less than 350kcal. Only problem is it doesn't taste as good as tofu. It's also cheaper than tofu, especially if you buy it in bulk from Asian grocery stores.

Soya chunks (textured soy protein) is the number one I would say - 100g has 350kcal and 50-55g protein. A lot of the staples of Indian cuisine are also great: mung beans, cowpea, soybeans, chickpeas, etc. (Usually around 20-27g protein & 300-400kcal per 100g)
Also, soy milk - I literally drink 1 litre of soy milk a day which has 280kcal and 30g protein.
Cereal grains like oats, rye, and other whole grains in moderation are also good.
When bulking, seeds and nuts are good sources of protein, but due to their high fat content and caloric density, are not suitable when cutting.

So I don’t eat meat or dairy, and finding whole food plant based sources of protein hasn’t been hard necessarily but it was when i was trying to get into a caloric deficit… I had to eat A LOT without having to drink a protein shake every evening. Which I’m not a fan of sweets so that got old really fast. And I don’t like tofu. But now that I am just a couple percentage points from where i want to be as far as body fat goes, I get to eat a ton of food and still seemingly maintain. It would be easier to just eat meat but it’s a moral decision for me.
The biggest increase I saw was actually when I started taking creatine. I didn’t know vegans and vegetarians are seriously lacking in creatine since we don’t eat meat. So after say a month of a solid pre workout meal + drink w creatine, and monitoring my protein intake with majority healthy Whole Foods ( I do eat impossible burgers and meat substitutes that would be considered processed foods, like beyond meats “steak” tips, impossible chicken tenders, Gardein turky or fish, tofurkey ham roast, impossible sausage patties, and various vegan cheeses - not much tho bc of sat fat content percentages ) and yeah, after that month I saw more gains and was able to hit bigger weights than the 3 months before that combined. Not sure if it was the diet and the creatine finally catching up or if it would have occurred regardless, but i was really happy with the results.
I feel like I’m currently plateauing, but I think that’s more due to old hip and elbow injuries that don’t allow for full range of motion under heavy load. Hopefully once I get some stability and mobility/stretching exercises down then I can up the weight. Just scared I’m aggravating these tears in my labral joints in my hips when squatting, leg press, deadlift, anything that involves an almost full range of motion. And my max bench press (1/2 my body weight… weak I know) has shown me my arm not being able to extend as long as the other one (airbag snapped my arm in half at the elbow, had screws and plates in there holding it together) causes a lot of sway to my right side.
I go to PT for the hip currently while waiting on potential surgery but he doesn’t know a thing about weighifting, so he can’t really give me advice on what to do. I watch a lot of Squat University videos tho, thank goodness for UA-cam.
To anyone who read all that mess, thanks for listening ❤

Very cheap too, especially if you buy it in bulk from Asian grocery stores. Only problem is it can be quite bland, but does absorb a lot of water, so if you are good with using spices and South Asian cooking you can make it delicious!

This is my personal take, and I hope I get a response:
My take is that eggs are number 1, and whole milk is number 2.
My reasoning for this is as follow:
Eggs contain literally all trace elements, but is high in zinc and iron compared to other elements, and the vitamin profile of egg yolks are basically unmatched:
    >The egg yolk contains high amount of vitamin A, D, E, K, B1, B2, B5, B6, B9, and B12, while egg white possesses high amounts of vitamins B2, B3, and B5 but also significant amounts of vitamins B1, B6, B8, B9, and B12 (Table 2). Eating two eggs per day covers 10% to 30% of the vitamin requirements for humans.
2 eggs a day is all that's necessary to cover roughly 1/5 of your entire dietary intake of minerals and vitamins for the entire day, just 2 eggs.
The last reason why I think eggs are unmatched: vitamin D and Iodine. There isn't much vitamin D specifically, but what's important are the cholesterols present that aid in vitamin D conversion in the sun, which is the bulk of most people's daily intake.
Once again, a single egg contains roughly 15% of your entire iodine intake, so once again, at 2 eggs, your hitting 1/3 of your entire daily iodine intake requirement, which is very important for growth and other hormonal factors.
Now onto whole milk, protein, calcium, vitamin A and vitamin D, vitamin B12, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, phosphorus, vitamin B5, zinc, selenium, iodine and potassium. The problem here is zinc in milk is generally poorly absorbed due to the excessive calcium content, but that's not what's important.
Between consuming 2 eggs, and a glass of whole milk a day, you have met 30% of your entire daily intake of minerals and vitamins.
When people talk about health, etc, most people don't realize that the biggest factor to health is what you eat and how often you work with your body.
Now, I can make home fries at home, I use an air fryer, cut my potatoes and lightly oil them and put some franks red hot spice powder all over them and some salt, mix em up well and microwave it for 4:30-5:15 in the microwave, and then pop them in the air fryer.
That's: potatoes, olive oil, franks red hot powder spice mix (various dry powder mixes), salt.
That's 4 simple ingredients, but lets mimic normal fries and remove the franks, we have 3 ingredients now for french fries.
Mcdonalds fries have 19 ingredients. 19. Silicone Aluminate salt is used in these french fries to prevent oil frothing. Aluminum salts. Yes, I will say it one more time, there are aluminum salts, in food, to prevent oil from frothing.
My person diet is basically just: Milk, eggs, spaghetti, parmesan, pasta sauce, cheap af cold cuts, peanut butter, whole wheat bread, and oatmeal, and frozen fruits (when I can afford it lol).
My favourite go-to frozen fruit is blueberries, can treat them like candy, lol but remember there is still lots of sugars in there. Blueberries are rated highly as well due to their excessively high antioxidant content.
TL;DR: Eggs and whole milk are the kings of food, eggs requiring all those nutrients in order to birth a new chicken/whatever into the world if fertilized, and milk requiring all those nutrients and fat for newborns.
The fat content of milk is what dictates it's price, as milk fat is valuable due to its positive effects on the immune system.
Obviously milk isn't colostrum, but it still contains some immunological compounds that aid with strengthening natural immunity.
If you read this far, thank you and have a great day.
My favourite way to make eggs is pouched if anyone is wondering, I use an egg poacher ring insert that goes over a pot of boiling water and the eggs go into the little dimples. I do lightly preoil the dimples with paper toil, or you can drop a small quarter sized pool into the bottom and just use that, it rarely sticks I find. Use a wooden spoon to just easily pull them off the ring while holding it with tongs/oven mitts.
EDIT: For those with cholesterol issues, something to consider looking into is Hydroxy-Methyl butyrate or HMB, its commonly sold as a recovery agent for weightlifters, and is also used in livestock feed to increase lean muscle mass volume, it has more promising results in new/returning weightlifters, but it also has profoundly positive effects on cholesterol. If you want to ask your doctor about this, use scholar.google.ca/com to find a peer reviewed paper referencing HMB intake on cholesterol with a positive outcome, just print the peer reviewed study webpage off and bring it to your doctor and see if its something that's viable, etc.
BE WARNED, HMB is sold in 2 forms, calcium salt, and free acid form, the calcium will split from the HMB with an introduction to acid, like stomach acid. Free Acid is usually sketchily priced.
SECOND HMB WARNING: It is LITERALLY the worst tasting supplemental powder in existence. The best actual description of the taste I can give is:
Burnt apple that someone poured battery acid over, then pooped on it, and then burnt it altogether again. Anyone's who's tasted HMB-Ca with just water will attest that this is pretty accurate.
Only mix it with sugary drinks, and NEVER mix it with any type of protein shake, unless you want to drink an entire protein shake that tastes like that.
