I live in one of the last areas without excessive light pollution it's really dark at night and the Milky Way gives me the awestruck captivation that Christianity never did despite all the Christians going off on God's miracles, creation, beauty. I never felt that until deconverting and I feel Christianity cheapens the miracle of existing in the vastness of Spacetime

This was a fascinating lady and hearing about the differences about our upbringing with being Roman Catholic. Being brought up in Northern Ireland as a protestant in 70’sand early 80’s it was a tough season with the ‘troubles’ between the people groups of catholic/protestants. I could relate to that. I like that your guest says that she now see's a homeless person as herself. I am definitely not a Christian, but when I was working as a nurse in a psychiatric unit, I dreamed that each patient I met was "somebody Christ", such as Johnny Christ, Leslie Christ, etcetera. I was raised Catholic, and I reject it. But my soul has a strong sense of a "Christ consciousness." I've also had incredibly powerful dreams of being in Egyptian ceremonies, lining up with many people to approach Ma'at. We could chose our talisman as we waited. I initially chose a Jesus pen, but then exchanged that for an Ibis headed statue, which I think was Thoth. I appreciate that you put your toe into these more uncomfortable spiritual waters in conversation with this guest. Once you've had profound spiritual experiences, the nihilism just doesn't work. But it's fine if it works for people. I've also encountered Jesus in a dream, and felt and knew that he embodied all good and all evil. I hoisted him up through the roof of the cathedral, into space. I wasn't trying to spend too much time with the guy. Just wanted to chime in. Thanks.
@1:01 seems her "patriarchy" is not the traditional understanding of male center hierarchy. It is the hierarachical power structure and demand of compliance in contrast with share power and free agency. May be should not continue to use "patriarchy" and find another term for it.
I have “conversations” with my dead loved ones when I am down hearted and want familiar comforts that aren’t tangibly obtainable. I still love those who have died, so I also “communicate” with the dead in my love of them.

Kinda funny. My family was catholic up until my grandmother moved to Texas. Between Catholicism being kind of an odd duck there at the time and the fact that the local Catholic church didn't have any sort of program where she could dump the kids, they wound up going to a protestant church and my mom got into the whole evangelicalism thing and here we are.
We are all mentally different to an extent, although we all share some fundamental similarities that makes us humans. Some of us, I believe like Kara, have a need to connect the dots. We cannot get that with religion because religion disconnects more than it connects. Some people don't have this connecting the dots need so it is easier for them to fall into religion, cults, etc. I say this because since I was 12 none of the religious allegories made sense to me. I'm too grounded in reality and believe that the missing of that connection is what makes humanity repeat the same mistakes again and again.

I'm no fan of patriarchy either and I like the idea that in a certain way our passed loved ones continue to live on in our memories and I agree that we should see more value to a tree than the lumber we can produce from it, but I'm going to need a bit more evidence or demonstration before I can agree with most of the claims she made.
Only because we are the most wealthy in the world is dismantling the patriarchy even a conversation, it’s a place of privilege. No 3rd world country would want the lady out working

I read the book too. I don’t have a spiritual bone in my body, though I am sure she would argue differently. And I would be interested to hear her take on that.

I understand what the Dr is saying. I believe in God but I now things about the bible that is very eye opening. I always questioned why the God of the bible only talk to Israel and not other Asians, Africans, Europeans and/or people of the Americas.

Election winners of the majority party make the laws, determine the punishments, set the tax brackets, and shape the judiciary. So it is about winning elections. That's the one aspect of "all this" that we need to keep drawing together. Power is not bad. Political power is necessary. Corruption happens, yes,, but there's really nothing we can do about it when we aren't in power. So the best thing to do (to prevent and address that corruption and patriarchal bs) is to win elections. My so-called "cozy space" in my community is my county Democratic Party headquarters and my precinct. 🌊🩵🗽⚖️🇺🇲💙
The efforts behind the politicians are the power. The silent partner of government is the money that invests into it willingly. (You wouldn’t think they would spend so much on it since they are so stingy about paying taxes into the government, but billions to put people in office is an investment for their bank accounts/inheritors.)
