As soon as Frances became an adult, she kicked Courtney out of her life. I don't know of ANY perfect moms, but the excellent moms tend not to drive their children away.
I absolutely LOVE Kurt, in fact, I would say that I idolize him, and I have no doubt that he loved Frances very much. He also was an INFP (look it up), and as a fellow INFP, I can tell you that when we love someone or something, it is intense. You can see it in his face, he loved his child and he loved his music. But to say that Kurt was the perfect dad is a huge exaggeration. Yes, he loved her, but he couldn't take care of himself, it would have been a struggle to take care of her PERFECTLY, even under the best of circumstances.
As far as Courtney; seriously?? When you're daughter has to take you to court so she can get out of the house? Wow, now that is just LOW standards for being a perfect parent. And when Frances was about 10 there were pictures of Frances leading a drugged out Courtney around. Did you see the look on Frances' face? Yeah, mom of the year.
