No thank you I do not like 50mm lenses, 45mm and shorter are ok, 55mm and longer are ok. Back in the 70´80´and 90´a 50mm was only a cheap kit lens that was parked back down in a dark corner and never used, I do not see all the modern fuss about the 50mm lens, stop it. But if you can get your hand on a Voigtländer Macro Apo-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 it will be very awsome :D
I bought the Sony A7III in 2019 with the 24-105 G F/4.0 lens. After a year of using that I was really noticing that most of my shots where at 24 mm or 105mm. I sold the lens and bought the 24 mm Gmaster F/1.4 and the 85mm F/1.8 from Sony. Best decision ever but to be honest, I hardly put the 85mm on. Once you get used to the 24mm on a Full Frame camera it becomes a second nature to take a closer step for portraits. Foodshots with the creamy Bokeh are amazing aswell :D. Ooh and BTW, your videos are amzing, keep them up! You are my GO to channel why I decided to go with Sony.
Had 7 lenses and when I fell in love with 24mm, I got the collection down to 3. 24mm 1.4 GM, Sigma 24-70 art, Somy 85mm 1.8. Less choices has given me so much more freedom
Good one! When I first tried a 24mm my reaction was, whoa, everything is so far away. But it only took a minute, and it has become my favorite lens for everything. With that one and a 50mm or slightly longer, I'm all set!
You inspired me to buy a 24/1.4G and yep, it's a great lens. I really like its versatility and uniqueness. We all fed up with standart portraits on 85-135 mm lenses with completely blurred backgrounds. 24 mill gives a bit different portraits - shallow DOF and wide angle in one frame look different and eyes-capturing, we aren't used to this frames coz it's not standart. The background is blurred but due to a wide angle and bigger DOF (in contrast with 50, 85 and so on) you can show there's the subject at the moment and simultaneously isolate it from background. Oh, i really found my all-time-favored lens now!
The 24mm GM did pair up very nicely with my both 50mm f1.4/55mm f1.8 for cosplay events. As the 24mm did allow some nice wide shoots and the 55mm did a solid job for portraits. I also paired those 2 for Italy. 24mm handled food. 50mm did a fair number of photos and portraits there also.
I'm gonna try my 24 1.8 prime for indoor for a while. I had my 35 1.8 at a gig a few days ago, it didn't do well, I had to be too far away from the subject to get the whole person in. My 16-70 F4 did really well on my A7lll at 16mm.
You have such FANTASTIC videos. You make me want to escape my desk, grab my Nikon, and GET OUT THERE! Thanks for fanning our flames for the love of photography.
I recently upgraded from a 24mm f/2.8 to the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 dg dn, and it's a fantastic lens. And when you mount it on an APS-C body, it shoots like a 36mm f/2.1, so I've got the 35mm look, when I want it.
@@mrwashur1991 Conceded that the cropped 24mm is not a headshot lens. I have other lenses for that. But for landscape/cityscape photography, it's fine. And for landscape, extra compression may not necessarily be beneficial. A 24mm will generally have better DOF than a 35mm, which for landscape work, is usually better. Finally, the APS-C body in my kit lets me get effectively 6 lenses out of 3. It's like having a teleconverter that works with ANY lens, not just teles. I carry an 85mm f/1.8, a 45mm f/1.8, and the 24mm f/1.4, which, with the two bodies will easialy fit in a 12"x8"x8" shoulder bag, with room for spare batteries and other accessories. I'm covered for 24, 36, 45, 67.5, 85, and 127.5mm. Trying to match that with 6 separate lenses would require a substantial backpack, would be significantly more expensive, and be a pain to carry around.
Such a great video. This is exactly why I subscribed such a long time ago. Love your videos on the 85mm just like this one on the 24mm. Hope there will be other focal lengths as well. Keep it up, Jason!
Don't know how much more of these i can make! Otherwise every lens is a lens i can HIGHLY recommend 😂 But i will dive deeper in a series on how to utilize each focal length
I love shooting at 24mm on my 16-36GM, I can't justify the price of a prime right now, but definitely something I'll be thinking about down the road. Have a few other things I want yet, and some more saving to do again.
Love this video. Killer travel shots too. I’m getting the a7c and have been debating what lens to get. I usually shoot wide or tight, very rare I’m in between. So I think this vid just helped me decide what first lens to get. I’d love to see a similar video on longer focal lengths.
So what other benefits besides a lower aperture is there to a single zoom lens like FE 24mm F1.4 GM and FE 35 mm F1.4 GM vs the FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM? This one lens, I guess in theory, can do both in one lens, right? Clearly I am missing something and I am just really curious. I love the video, I have really learned a lot thanks to you and all your videos! Keep up the great work!
You are really convincing me to get the 24 mm prime. I have a 35 mm f2.8 so I'm still a bit on the fence, but I definitely can't vlog with it and I would like something versatile for when I finally get to travel again! :) Thanks for sharing your opinion- it means a lot to us!
Hey Jason, been following your channel for a wild and learning from you. I just got my first good camera fresh from the store lol, and with the camera I got 3 prime lenses, 18mm f1.8, 35mm f1.8, 85mm f1.8, the idea was 18 for landscape, 35 for everyday shooting and 85mm for landscape and portrait. The problem is that I am feeling like it is missing something on my line up, something that I can take with me for some wildlife photography and everything else lol. Like a really good zoom lens that can cover a good amount of focal length. Wold love to have some input from you, keep up the amazing work brother
I got 24 mm Gmaster lens a couple of weeks ago... LOVE IT.. until i got the highly talked about 85 mm Sigma DG DN this week... wow... i think 85mm is my new fave. Havent tried a 50mm yet tho... 100-400 zoom next on my list

You can't really talk about a 24mm 1.4 lens without mentioning the sigma 24mm 1.4 alternative! I got the 24mm 1.4 sigma and the 35mm 1.4 sigma for less than the price of one Gmaster lens! and I love them! but great video! love your perspective of this focal length, and I agree that the 24mm is the sweet spot for a wide angle lens, I actually think anything wider becomes too wide, especially if you shoot a 16-35mm at 16mm
I was just googling this as I was looking for a more versatile lens for documenting trips and stuff too...only knocks I saw was that the Sigmas were much larger and heavier
Hi Jason, such a great video. So helpful in our quest to find the perfect vlogging camera. What size lens would you suggest is best for vlogging? We know you said here 24mm isn't too bad. We are looking for the best for wide angle. I may have to save up more money between the camera itself and a lens $$$$$....LOL. But seeing your videos and picture taking, I know we want to go with a Sony this time. I think we also need a gimble for stability when vlogging. Our channel is little subscriber wise, but I still want our videos to be great quality, and right now our Canon just isnt cutting it wide angle wise and it's pretty poor quality in the dark on rides. I aspire to be the pro that you are.....hee hee. Of course my mom thinks I do pretty good.......but she has to say that!
I recently got my first ff mirrorless camera. I want this specific lens for spontaneous family outings where I don't want to carry around a huge lens but want to get great pictures, especially when comparing them to my mobile phone. I want the wider focal length and faster aperture for tight dark environments like at a booth in a restaurant (insert Jason Vong joke 😂)
Loving your Videos. It's always a nice flow and vide. Hey Jason, is it possible to make a review about the new Samyang 24mm f1.8? Would love to hear ur opinions on that lense.
Hello.. Thanks for this great video! I'm new to the camera world. I just bought a Sony A7III & now it's time to get a Gmaster lens. Question: I would like to film myself up close playing the electric guitar in low light. Would the 24mm GMaster F1.4 be better so that I can get the whole guitar in the shot? Thank you so much!
I'd love to know how you pack for an international trip...like your current one, where you're away from home for weeks on end! How do you combat "bring-everything!" syndrome?
I been thinking about this lens for automotive photography. What do u think about it in that field?? From stills to rollers. I been using sigma 35 1.4 with my Sony a7iii. And also have the nifty fifty
Great video. So I look at it like this at weddings.... If the venue is amazing I use 35mm or 55mm a lot. If it’s ok I use 55mm mostly, if its a poor venue I use the 85mm mostly. Horses for courses. I have more recently stopped discounting zoom lenses. They are amazing as well. :-)
I got this lens used for 1100€ and it is great! I had the Loxia 21 before, but 21 was too wide for me (Although I do landscape photos) + the F1.4 is amazing. Personally, I would prefer a manual 24 F1.4 tho :D
Hi Jason, nice videos man, actually they pushed me to Sony instead of Nikon. I started photography as a hobby just 6 month ago and decided to go big equipment wise. I picked up a a7c and the sony 24mm GM and hardly put it down since then. Ok, maybe sometimes when I am at work to afford more photo stuff :). So anyways, since I am totally hyped with this new hobby it was well worth it for me to invest in another prime lense. 3 weeks ago the sony 135mm GM joined the team. To be honest, it is a big lense to carry around, but the results are fantastic. The combination of these lenses allow for a wide range of targets to shoot, and since composition wise, the look of these lenses is so different, I wont get bored with these two in a long time! Ah and btw., as a bonus, cause of covid I am working from home and man, you should see the envy of my colleages when I am using the 24mm to show up in team meetings :) So, greetings from germany, keep it up!
Thinking I'm gonna talk about the 50mm next, what you guys think? 😃

I would love to see a comparison between the 24mm and the 20mm 🙏🙏

I just ordered a 24mm f/1.4 GM yesterday because of your video about it! Should be coming in tomorrow!
Enjoy it!!
Got my 24mm 1.4 GM and 85mm 1.8 and I'm so happy with this combo. Having sooo much fun!

My list of gear to buy in order: a7SIII, 24mm GM, DJI RS2, and then 85mm GM.
You’ll be better off getting 85mm 1.8. Better value compared to 1.4
I'm so excited! I'm just getting into photography when my sister gave me her old camera. I just purchased a 24mm lense and I'm so keen to try it out
And this is why the Sigma 16mm is so awesome for APS-C. Great video as always.
Just got a 16 for my apsc Fuji, thanks for so many great examples!
I like GM 24mm f1.4. It’s wide, good in Low light, sharp and crispy

This is the video I needed to remind me why I got the 24mm GM.
I love to use my 24mm f/2 in a 24/50/105mm three-lens combo.

Very good video. Im totally hesitating between the 24 1.4, a 35mm or a 24-70 (already have a 20mm 1.8) tell me what to buy !!😂
Is there any noticeable difference between the 24mm 2.8 prime vs the 24-70mm 2.8 zoom? Given they both open up at 2.8?
It’s something about taking an interest in photography that makes watching videos like these a lot more entertaining and relaxing at the same time :))
Sigma 16mm and 56mm for my a6600. Perfect.

I went with a wider combo: 20mm1.8 & 55mm1.8
My favourite combo there: the 24mm GM & 85mm Batis!

Sony a6400 with the Sigma 16mm (24mm equivalent) works amazingly!
Love your videos brother, your being yourselfness! 😊
