    It would be so much more helpful to see all these actions with someone who actually can't help herself along as this person can.

      Exactly, clearly the "patients" in videos such as this are mobile,far from what people deal with on a day to day basis in real life.

      I agree. There is so much More to this when a person has limited mobility. My 91yr old pretty active dad is just getting over Covid it weakened him so much he’s hasn’t walked in 3wks spending 1wk in hospital. Being home now in my care a visiting Nurse said most important thing in his recovery is at least sitting on edge of bed & baby steps like edge of bed, stand , turn to chair. My dad is like 5’4/220lbs.. He’s been home 4days now n has only sat on a Commode once, then sat on edge of bed today. He very much want to get up n go but for now it’s Baby steps. Im petrified I will drop him if say he stands then can’t in middle of trying.. My neice, a nurse sent one of these belts n I received it today Hence reason I’m looking at videos. My brother comes over after work n helps him stand etc.. I’m 62 & it’s really hard being a caregiver when alone although I have a husband n he helps as much as he can. Haha no one is getting any younger. But definitely agree with ppl saying It would be way more helpful if they used an actual patient w/limited mobility! Sry this was long but if u read it Thank you, any suggestions are deeply appreciated 🙏🏽 Off to search more REALISTIC videos …

      Absolutely. Some of my patients are completely immobile. Unfortunately not a helpful video.

    Honestly, it is hard and different from actual patient...I almost broke my ribs coz I was lifting an over 200lbs paraplegic patients...what is more difficult is her bathroom and bath is too small like only 1 /2 meters wide enough to fit in her wheelchair... Being a caregiver is not an easy task.

    • @annehancock6734
      @annehancock6734 Рік тому +2

      I really feel like there should be at least 2 CNA’s, or Caregivers when you lift patients. In fact, I think that is actually a rule now in nursing homes in some states.

      @@annehancock6734At both of the healthcare facilities I worked at (one in Kansas and one in Ohio), it was only a recommendation for some specific patients to do a 2 person assist. At my work in Kansas, we even had a 3 person assist.

    • @scent-bubbles
      @scent-bubbles Рік тому +1

      I agree! You guys don't have any sort of lift to help with the paraplegic patient you mentioned? All of the paraplegic patients I've had we have strictly used lifts (sit to stand or full assist) with a minimum of 2 people helping for bathing, incontinence care, or even just getting them from bed to wheelchair. I'm baffled you're trying to do it single handedly.

    Just found out what these were. I've been buying them from thrift stores as regular belts. Pulled cars with them. Basically I do a lot of unconventional things with this belt that no other belt can do.

      I used them to spank my children when they were young. I knew I would spank too hard but this belt was softer and wider so I would put the Hammer of Thor down hard on those misbehaving bratty buttocks. I mean I would hit homeruns, knock it out of the park ! Now I need them for my elderly Mom who has cancer. My kids are in their 30s and laugh : Daddy found his spanking belt ! They said it was so much better than a palm or leather belt but just the fact I was TRYING to wear those bratty buttocks out hurt their feelings worse than spankings. Now I see in the future kids using it with me ( to lift not spankings haha ). My Mom feel yesterday, would not have if I used this belt.

      One thing people. Make sure you use this belt. Patients say they can walk when they cant. My Mom fell yesterday because she didnt want belt

    I was under the impression that the gait belt is supposed to provide a preventive against lifting a person's dead weight and hurting your back as a caregiver, nurse, etc.

    I agree that it would be far more helpful if like real patients they were unable to move left or right side of the body.

      I have Muscular Dystrophy and need more help to transfer. The person on the video seems to be able to move which is not helpful in teaching an attendant how to transfer with a gait belt
      I don't really see the point in using someone who can move easily. Not educational enough. Also, surprised.

    • @melissa1118
      @melissa1118 3 роки тому +8

      I mean, isn’t a gait belt just there to assist? If they can’t bear any weight or move their limbs, they’d be using a hoyer.

    • @cactisaurusp7864
      @cactisaurusp7864 Рік тому +1

      if they can’t move their limbs at all, you’d use a mechanical lift.
      gait belts are only for assistance

    I have a client that is not stable on her feet at all. How can this work with her. Transfer from bed to chair is a stand-quick swivel, but I am nervous because tonight I have to do the reverse to put her in bed... someone else usually does this. Pray for her and me🙏🏾

    It's not that easy when transferring a patient that can't stand on their own...My mother hade knee replacement surgery and hip surgery she can't stand so I try using gatebelt for transferring her to the potty chair and it's hard.

    Worst training EVER! I care for my 76 year old mother (and was a caregiver 15 yrs ago for several years), who can't do most of these things to assist. This video does more damage than good!

    • @voidbornvixen
      @voidbornvixen 4 роки тому +4

      This is extremely basic training. It’s just to give an outline. You don’t know how it is to actually move a dependent until you actually do it. Nothing can really prepare you for that lol
