[PK#05] Pathfinder Kingmaker (Last Azlanti Unfair*) - Fangberries and the Technic League!

- Off to run an errand for mr. Bokken we go. Some evil spooders must be disposed off which are no match for our well prepared party. (In earlier versions of the game you actually needed to fight some swarms here which were a much bigger headache).
With that sorted, we peacefully make our way into the Abandoned Hut area, but we are ambushed on the road by some slavers calling themselves the Technic League!

Amiri screaming "tear them apart" before exploding enemies gives me life.
Eheh battlecries are really awesome :D for the longest time I also thought she said "Watch me gore 'em!" Instead of "watch me gorum" :p
Personally, I prefer to play with party AI Off. This way you don't need to babysit Amiri all the time when she run wrong way in her barbarian fury. And since you set party commands yourself anyway there is even less reason to have AI On.
I also always spare Kalannah (Neutral Good person and all that) and that has a kind of positive consequences later in Octavia/Regongar companions quest.
Wether I spare Kalannah comes down to just one thing, am I building a Wizard from scratch or am I just running with the two int classes the game gives you.
I tend to do that on characters that have spellcasting capabilities in fights where I feel I will need their spells ASAP. For other characters, sure you would have more control over it but then they just stand still after killing an enemy which is just a waste of time and having to command on every single thing, especially in lesser fights gets boring quickly, so I just let them run rampant and murder everything.
It's basically the tradeoff of losing control to gain some quality of life (and spend some money on ressurect scrolls :p)
@@CoredumpedGaming i like when you get ambushed by bandits in mid/late game and just drag select and point at them for blendering
One of my favourite things :D
I died so many times technic league fight :D Especially if mage managed to cast "cause fear" all my party dies while running mindlessly :D
Yep, these fights have a real potential to go sideways quite quickly lol
I noticed Octavia died just before the fight ended, thank you scripted resurrection

Scrolls of Cure Light Wounds cost and weigh half as much as Potions of Cure Light Wounds. The most cost effective healing item you can buy.
For healing out of combat they for sure are the superior choice. In combat, potions do have the edge as you can drink them and still act in the same round
When I use reg for combat I normally run something like magus 16 DD 4 yes I know it slows down key feats but the free strength is just so good when you are always keeping him enlarged so he does not trigger the spell casting check for melee attacks
Ah, worry not friend, that is exactly my plan for him :p I just like to give him the medium armor proficiency at level 7 and then put 4 points of DD in. It's just too good to pass up on, str, ac and a bite attack
I never got the hang of the Magus class. This will be interesting - if you'll have Regongar as a permanent party member. I guess you'll switch Coredumpina out once you have Tristan? Or who'll have the cleric slot in your party?
magus always seemed way too fiddly, unless you're doing turn based (which is excellent in kingmaker now, so that's fine)
Magus is quite good but as mr. @jimbowardoable mentioned, they can only be truly played to their fullest potential in turn based mode given that there's a lot of swift actions and micro management to take into consideration to fully utilize them. In RTwP it's more of a buff up and go class which still works quite well, with the occasional touch attack weaved into melee attacks for extra burst.
Coredumpina will be with us forever :D Tristian is a fine support but Coredumpina features more useful domains for the team, which will play a bit part later on.
@@CoredumpedGaming are you going to swap out octavia for a certain tiny bomb throwing maniac

Ecclesiathurge can do ok as archers given Erastil gives you the proficiency for free. You probably have to skip deadly aim, but at higher levels, divine power without the deadly aim penalty puts you on par with the AB of a warrior. Weapon focus is a fairly safe pick for archers, because you basically will just want longbow.
As for evocation focus, archon's aura is only 20ft. Even with toggling point blank, you will not by default be in range to debuff enemies without either going melee or micromanagement. Firestorm, stormbolts and flame strike are all respectable evocation spells, but it will be quite a while before spell focus will be a worthwhile investment. Honestly, you will probably want to cast other 5th level spells as a cleric, though the 7th and 8th level spells are actually quite bad for buffs and healing, so using these for offensive spells is a relatively better option.
Doing good so far.
Regarding spell combat, if you are prepared to micro him into melee before he casts (the AI is really bad at using touch attacks with spell combat on autocast), then a 2nd attack with spell strike spamming touch of fatigue is absolutely worth both the AB penalty and the reduction in the strength modifier to damage. I would much sooner take this than the defensive fighting penalty. Personally, I would just use enlarge person on Regongar to stop him being targeted rather than worry about his AC. Valerie and your Leopard will tank a lot better.
However, if you don't micro him and have touch of fatigue on autocast, the AI will cast touch of fatigue out of melee range and then move to attack, meaning you will seldom actually perform a full attack action, which completely defeats the point.
Oh yes, you are completely right about that. I'm not sure if I mention it in the video or not, but I feel that Magus really is a class that shows its full potential only in Turn-based. It is a lot better to have spell combat with something like touch of fatigue on by default for the extra attack, but as you correctly stated and as I found out a long time ago, the game doesn't really do it properly... He just starts casting from afar and then runs in to hit, which wastes the whole point of spell combat, a shame really. I mostly use him as a fighter/mage type of character. I focus on tanking as well for him because I like to have him be able to service as a tank in case I need an additional one. Plus it also makes him safer in general, as even while enlarged things can go very wrong for those near the enemies.
will u replace Octavia for the black ranger? ( i don't remember his name )
Ekundayo, he will join the party for some time but Octavia will be gone by then. Her replacement is definitely more verbose than Ekun :p
