Thank you for posting this video. Very insightful. It can be a bit overwhelming trying to choose the proper custom character build. You have given me a lot to think about. I know I want my MC to be an officer, but still struggling to choose the best path for World, etc etc.
Strangely enough, this is the first CRPG with lots of options I've played in a long time where I don't feel like I even need to fully respec a character. Like, it's a pretty damn flexible system, just like 40k TTRPGs, so Officer/Sanctioned psyker is basically something I'll never regret picking. You can learn new psychic discipline paths whenever you get to pick abilities so you can switch the combination out by respecing talents. Meanwhile, games like Pillars of Eternity, Wrath of the Righteous and so on are games where solid 60% of all my game time is spent replaying Act 1.
In first Pillars, building a character greatly depends on class you playing. Funnily enough, for casting classes almost all their class talents are just no-brainers, you generally should pick all of them sooner or later and never look at various generic or cross-class talents (they are mostly shit.) Fighter classes, on the other hand, can't really define what's better for them, so it's sometimes harder to build fighter (choosing all different weapon foci for all the cool sticks you found) than it is to build a wizard.
I've already had to restart a few times - the main problem is the homeworld and origins picks, which are fixed and can't be respecced. You can think of them as the "chassis" of the build. When you first start playing the game, it's not really clear what the best homeworld/origin picks are for the archetype combo you want, until you get a sense of which of the passive/stat bump/talent combinations is best for what you have in mind. Of course it doesn't matter that much on lower difficulties, because the system is indeed flexibile enough to handle a less-than-synergistic pick of homeworld/origins (IOW a new player can just go by rp feel and still be effective); but I think if you're playing on Unfair you have to be very careful and already have a bit of knowledge of the game (which I suppose makes sense lol).
Summary Execution requires the Commissar to land the killing blow but the Commissar will not get any bonuses from At All Costs if he kills the target so it isn't allowing more uses, it is a refund mechanic in case your Commissar gets the killing blow instead of an ally.

thanks for the guide, but I think soldier is better for burst and area weapons (to kill a lot of weak enemys) and operative is better for snipers (boss killers). Soldier rewards you for a lot of hits and kills, while operative talents heavily buff you first attack and promote to be stationary.
The problem with officers is that they have to be so close, and in line of sight, to use their abilities. I'm constantly finding myself unable to buff the right person because my officer has to be somewhere else. My RT right now is Officer/Grand Strategist. So I get the half turn, send Bring It Down to my sniper, get back to my RT's full turn since GS goes first regardless of initiative, send BiD to another person, then back to my RT so he can kill something. But my snipers are so good I don't always keep them close to my RT. A properly built sniper is the best mercenary you can have. I use two on my team. They sit in the back and just delete people from the game. I started out building snipers as Bounty Hunters because that's what all the videos and blogs say. But that's the wrong Archetype for it. The best sniper you can build is Forge World>Asta Militarum Commander>Operative>Assassin. For the Forge World, be sure to pick the brain implants to boost intelligence. Assassin is better for snipers because most of the talents work with a stationary character. And "Elusive Shadow" is absolutely perfect for a sniper, makes them the lowest priority target. All of the Assassin ability buffs are based on Intelligence, Agility, and Perception. The Homeworld/Origin combo used here boosts Intelligence, Perception, and Ballistic Skills. BS works for the Operative abilities and, obviously, snipers in general. It does ignore Agility. But Agility only plays a role on the defensive part of things. Since snipers are hidden in the background, they don't need much defense. And thanks to the Operative/Assassin abilities, these snipers don't need an officer nearby. They can buff themselves. With the right Abilities and enough AP, each of my snipers can 1-shot 2-3 critters per turn. Yrliet found that out the hard way.

Navy officer get into cover count as Extra turns for cassio mastery of time, which mean if you can use it twice it grant up to 50 fellowship, which translate into greatly upgraded master tactitian cassio If you realy want to exploit this run a 2 bounty hunter 2 officer type and 2 navy team. Bounty has 2 skills that grant extra turns, not to mention 2 exploiter that can increase everyone armor indefinetely with officer extra extra turn. Combined with the ramping buff cassio. Her buff will break the game the moment you get bounty hunter talent. Bonus tip firebird work with navy officer get into cover
Yep, I covered it in my Cassia Guide here: ua-cam.com/video/K28tcLd2Bis/v-deo.html It's my favorite talent to get for her the earliest for this reason alone!
The master is back, and has already homed in on the most OP things, so you don't have to :) I always think it's a bit of a double-edged sword, because once you know the OP things, it feels a bit sad playing anything less than optimal, even though it might be more fun for your preferred personal playstyle, or more suited to the sense of rp you initially had in mind.
@@cRPGBro I decided to do the most un-optimized, un-synergistic combo of Crime Lord/Officer with a Voidborn homeworld. Get Smart from Voidborn allows me to use INT in place of Fellowship for things that use Fellowship bonus (though not for skills per se, like Persuasion), so that takes care of the officer abilities that use Fellowship bonus checks, while at the same time allowing me to fufill my swashbuckling skill monkey dreams and utilize some of the Plan abilities from Crime Lord (along with perception and agility bumps). Fun in a LARP-ey way, but not exactly a highly optimized destroyer of worlds :) But I find that Officer spends so much time using Officer abilities to buff more powerful damage dealers that he hardly ever gets to use his own abilities anyway, so there's that.
A solid, but odd build. Pyro mancer with the fire res backgroud. You light yourself on fire, and wade into melee. and just Anihilate enemies. If they hit you, attack, deal fire dmg to you or you cast anything you PBAOE. Point blank area of effect. It also allows firestorm to work, since it wont hit things not on fire.
Bit lost in WH 40k - curious how my journey will be. Pretty sure, your guides will be helpful as usual, even i am not as happy in melee as you are 😄 I prefer being a Commander and let my team get the injuries 🙃 Skill Monkey / Caster in other games...
Surprised you skipped over Incinerate for Pyromancer. Once you get the ball rolling by stacking fire across the battlefield, it is a fantastic way to burst down priority targets.
@cRPGBro yeah I was checking that video out, the build looks fun! Currently I been playing a soldier but it feels a bit pointless when you get the battle sister who is amazing lol. I might remake 🤔
I find pyromancer to be quite strong, especially if you have an officer with the feat that allows them to always go first. You can cast ignite on their bonus turn and then firestorm on their actual turn. A good synergy is to have a melee tank with a flamer or hand flamer to proc fire and then use firestorm to spread it to more people. Also one thing I love about officers is that their extra turn ability can be used on an extra turn so if you have multiple officers you can chain the ability like a conga line to reach someone who's otherwise too far.
Have not tried this game yet, but I have heard that the difficulty (especially on Unfair) of this compared to Pathfinder WotR is not as much. So I assume that this game will be more forgiving on builds that are not near perfect.
Yes, I do find it easier but in a better way since Unfair bonuses are slowly added until the end of Chapter 1, and 20% extra damage taken is a lot better than the nonsense 2x from Pathfinder, at least for the early levelsl.
@cRPGBro Muuhahaha! Yeah, navigator and officer Nerf hammer seems righteous in a way! My personal fave is plasma pistol and hammer build! An arch militant build I find to be fun and not as OP! I enjoy the combat of this game and would rather not just nuke them to dust! ^_^ Looking forward to your own Arch Militant build!
Everyone: "The Word Bearer was too hard!" Me: "Hold my buffed Argenta." Chaos Marine: "Why do you have so many officers?! WHY IS THIS SISTER OF BATTLE SO POWERFUL!?"
I don't think Summary Execution is as good as you think, because the only way to trigger it is to kill the target with your Commissar, and the Commissar doesn't get the bonus from At All Costs!. Sure you can apply the ability again but its more of preventing a wasteful usage of it than actually providing additional value.
Pyro psyker build is rather easy to make. 1) pick a talent which grants you +1 psi rating when you are on fire. (Ideally it should be first pick.) 2) set yourself on fire. 3) start blasting.
I went with Sanctic instead because you have the easiest time getting 1000+ damage nukes as early as Act 2! Officer Psyker Build is here: ua-cam.com/video/xA1VH9CzmdI/v-deo.html
Hmm I really can't decide the best Archetype for a Pyromancer caster blaster. I don't wanna reroll again so late in the game. Save me, CRPG bro! I'm thinking either Master Tactician or Assassin. I know action economy is king in turn based RPGs so the extra turn from Master Tactician helps. If the AOEs from Pyromancer procs the assassin's perk, then assassin would be huge too.
Yes, the more Officers the better! You can just keep 1 full DPS focused character to be fair, since all the Extra Turns will be granted to them, like Argenta. A Tank can also work but frankly even on Unfair poor Abelard barely gets to do his job since the Officer Mafia just buffs one character to kill everything before the enemies get to act!
Trying to decide what second warrior archetype to take for my rogue trader. Have a sanctioned psyker background. Wanted to use the sanctic psykers sword attack in the end game, if it doesn't turn out to be terrible. Definitely melee focused, though.
Look you can fully respec everyone apart from the rogue trader just hire a new mercenary. I like how it sticks you to your class and background doesn't make sense story wise for the rogue trader to completely change.
@@cRPGBro oh yeah, I definitely agree if you’re looking at it from the perspective of a rpg video gamer, which I also am; I’m just big into 40K so I thought I’d share the knowledge lol. For me, it’s one of those small details that I appreciate where you can tell they were thoughtful about treating the IP with respect, just a little nod to the 40K universe.
typical owlcat not letting you respec character when that's the most fun part of their games, i have major indecisiveness i don't want to restart everytime i wanna try a new mash up, pretty sure i spent more time thinking about what classes i wanna run than i actually spent playing bg3
Don’t such things as characters backgrounds affect your story greatly? I haven’t played it yet but if that’s the case then, interaction maybe inconsistent which disturbs role-play aspect. Toybox is already made so you can sort of help to some degree.
@@kisame3520 owlcats earlier games kingmaker and wrath of righteos allowed you to respec from level zero allowing you to chance race and subrace so that argument doesnt really work.
Thanks for the basics, i plaed tabletop a long time ago, and the worst thing was the character creation mayhem. i really disliked it, especially because the book was a mess. i do love the setting though. Played a sniper / hacker mechanus frommone of the forgeworlds, which was a lotta fun :)
It does! Because you can use Seize the Initiative to go first and provide a huge DPS like Argenta with an extra turn way before she'd get to act to handle enemies and start building Momentum. This way you also give turns to a character that's fully buffed and at their peak.
To unlock him, after speaking with him you need to talk to the Elf surgeon, with the option to request his audience (that should cost a monster part you find while fighting enemies at Arena), then you can request him to free Ulfar!
reading an awful lot of overheating issues due to the Unity engine. Anyone else have this or a solution? got an older ti1070 card, so rather hesitant to buy this atm.... (bg3 runs fine on this btw)
Can anyone please elaborate on this part 41:45 ? What does he mean by not having spells in 60-70% of the game? Do you get to have spells later, even if you are not a psyker?
I mean that you can later use the Exemplar Archetype to get spells even if you didn't start as a Sanctioned Psyker. HOWEVER, that's only available at level 35+!
as far as I played, it's good to have shotgun on argenta as secondary weapon, 'cause you cannot use bolter if the enemy is close Also on my main I using sword and shotgun-revolwer in case I kill the enemy with charge, so i can kill another enemy. Its fun to dual-wield sword and gun
I'm having a great time with it, but I think I prefer Wrath of the Righteous because the Mythic Paths are really fun, and you also get a lot more classes and build options.
Kinda bummed that of all the psyker types they have not included the funniest of them all: TELEKINESIS PSYKER. In wargame, usage of TELEKINESIS usually amounts to huge bonuses to AP of the weapons (mostly melee, your ordinary sword is now a power sword) and possibly an armor bonus. And, of course, just throwing boulders at enemies. Also if I remember correctly, invisibility was one of the telepathic powers, and it's not there. Double bummer.
Sorry about that, it's just that I really wanted to cover everything Character Creation wise, since currently you CANNOT respec out of anything picked at level 1.
I really couldn’t figure out a build to make the sister of battle any good. One or maybe two mediocre bolster shots that missed pretty often seemed terrible. What’s a better build for her?
I took rapid fire feats, pumped her ballistic skill, and mostly try to have her full autoing into groups and she does ok. Does a lot of damage, its just spread out and rarely seems to actually kill much herself unless it's the low tier garbage enemies with like 9 hp. I think she's really suffering from the boltgun itself being weak. At least, the one she starts with seems to be lagging behind as I get further into chapter 1 and I haven't come across any upgrades. Should be one of the most devastating weapons a human can even use but like so many games it's been reduced to just a slow machine gun for whatever reason.
have your officer (either Main char or Cassia) buff her up and she will win fights by herself. focus + take aim is especially busted, I've had her walking around fights with 130+ ballistics skill chain critting everything that she can see after she starts snowballing with Revel in Slaughter
I disagree one Argenta, if you go arch-militant with her she can get super OP i only just started Chapter two and if you give her a bolter and the kick ability you can really stack up her class buffs you rotate between single and burst fire and if anyone gets in to melee you kick then (that counts as a new attack so another stat buff) and i gave her a blade trinket that lets her parry with ranged weapons using her BS so she is hard to hit....... so i got this mad bolter bitch running around with 120+ BS and WS kicking fools and turning enemy entire groups in to swiss cheese with rapid fire, i even gave her the grenadier skill so she gets a free nade too.
your builds are perfect or at least close, which are meta builds and somewhat kills the RPG element of the game, besides that, really perfect content gotta admit and I have been a follower since wotr. maybe you should sometimes give up the maths and optimization and put in some rpg elements?
if you want to RP, you don't need a guide. He will eventually do guides on the off meta stuff. For example he did a guide on a Paladin Angel in WOTR, which is far worse than any merged Angel.
@@maxscherzer9521that's the the thing about these imo. Knowing what's good can inform your decision making when making an RP build to make sure it doesn't just fall entirely flat.

@@cRPGBro I appear to have been wrong about the movement. I apologize I must have misremembered. Again sorry.
You can get agility to movement if you create a forge world character and choose the locomotion system augment. This gives bonus MP equal to half your agility bonus and dodge equal to 2 times your agility bonus.
23:45 Wounds having that meaning is not just Rogue Trader, it's a Warhammer thing in general (also in Fantasy and not just 40K)
For the Voidborn's Be Smart ability, I think you got it backwards, It allows you to use Intelligence for Fellowship Abilities and Talents.
So it let's you play officer without leveling fellowship?
Yes! Though you have to pick up the talent first.
Would it help on persuasion checks and other RP dialogue checks on a char with low Fellowship and high Int ?
@@maxkiller2738Nope

Navy officer get into cover count as Extra turns for cassio mastery of time, which mean if you can use it twice it grant up to 50 fellowship, which translate into greatly upgraded master tactitian cassio
If you realy want to exploit this run a 2 bounty hunter 2 officer type and 2 navy team.
Yep, I covered it in my Cassia Guide here: ua-cam.com/video/K28tcLd2Bis/v-deo.html
It's my favorite talent to get for her the earliest for this reason alone!
Can't afford the game right now but a friend was showing me feats, I read sieze the initiative and said instantly pick that LOL
Yep, it's really that good!
The master is back, and has already homed in on the most OP things, so you don't have to :)
I always think it's a bit of a double-edged sword, because once you know the OP things, it feels a bit sad playing anything less than optimal, even though it might be more fun for your preferred personal playstyle, or more suited to the sense of rp you initially had in mind.
For a very OP MC, go with Officer Psyker 😁: ua-cam.com/video/xA1VH9CzmdI/v-deo.html
Fun in a LARP-ey way, but not exactly a highly optimized destroyer of worlds :)
But I find that Officer spends so much time using Officer abilities to buff more powerful damage dealers that he hardly ever gets to use his own abilities anyway, so there's that.
Thematic and effetive!
Bit lost in WH 40k - curious how my journey will be.
Pretty sure, your guides will be helpful as usual, even i am not as happy in melee as you are 😄
I prefer being a Commander and let my team get the injuries 🙃
Skill Monkey / Caster in other games...
Gimme the buuuilds. Please make a warrior Vanguard build
Look who is here hahaha
@@ThiagoGraunke hahaha. Melhores builds de Pathfinder são do @crpgbro
Warrior + Vanguard should come for Abelard as a companion 😃
Surprised you skipped over Incinerate for Pyromancer. Once you get the ball rolling by stacking fire across the battlefield, it is a fantastic way to burst down priority targets.
It's just that Pyro is rather low damage early on Unfair, but it can be good later indeed!
You making me wanna remake my main character into a officer 😂
Officer Psyker is very good and fun!
Buffs & even 1000+ damage AoEs very early as I show here: ua-cam.com/video/xA1VH9CzmdI/v-deo.html
Yes! Crpg bro! Lets gooo!
Its time to break this game like we did wrath!
Already did it in a way with 1000+ damage AoEs Officer Psyker here, get it while it's hot and unnerfed 😁: ua-cam.com/video/xA1VH9CzmdI/v-deo.html
@cRPGBro Muuhahaha!
Yeah, navigator and officer Nerf hammer seems righteous in a way! My personal fave is plasma pistol and hammer build!
An arch militant build I find to be fun and not as OP! I enjoy the combat of this game and would rather not just nuke them to dust! ^_^
Looking forward to your own Arch Militant build!
comment for the algorithm. bis guide as always
Much appreciated!
Whats the best officer build? 😊
My favorite is right here for buffing & 1k+ AoEs: ua-cam.com/video/xA1VH9CzmdI/v-deo.html
Everyone: "The Word Bearer was too hard!"
Me: "Hold my buffed Argenta."
Chaos Marine: "Why do you have so many officers?! WHY IS THIS SISTER OF BATTLE SO POWERFUL!?"
cant wait for the companion builds
First with Cassia the Navigator here: ua-cam.com/video/K28tcLd2Bis/v-deo.html
I don't think Summary Execution is as good as you think, because the only way to trigger it is to kill the target with your Commissar, and the Commissar doesn't get the bonus from At All Costs!. Sure you can apply the ability again but its more of preventing a wasteful usage of it than actually providing additional value.
Thanks for the note!
Cant wait for your builds! Especially for the pyromancer psycher. Maximum dmg 😩
Pyro psyker build is rather easy to make.
1) pick a talent which grants you +1 psi rating when you are on fire. (Ideally it should be first pick.)
2) set yourself on fire.
Thanks for the guide. I am guessing the best party comp would be 4 officers and 2 soldiers. (for Min/Max play)
Bro make full op officer build please
It's here, for both uber Buffs and even 1000+ dmg Aoes: ua-cam.com/video/xA1VH9CzmdI/v-deo.html
My main is psyker tank/dps. Very fun build.
Perfect
Can you respec companion origins, archetypes, homeworld?...
Trying to decide what second warrior archetype to take for my rogue trader. Have a sanctioned psyker background. Wanted to use the sanctic psykers sword attack in the end game, if it doesn't turn out to be terrible.
Definitely melee focused, though.
I went for the warrior + assassin combo, purely because it increases your damage by a lot. (with biomancer sanctioned psyker)
I suppose it depends on what you want, Vanguard for more tanking, or something like Assassin for more damage!
Look you can fully respec everyone apart from the rogue trader just hire a new mercenary. I like how it sticks you to your class and background doesn't make sense story wise for the rogue trader to completely change.
Health is denoted as wounds because that is how health is tracked in all Warhammer and Warhammer 40K tabletop games.
It's what I imagined, still feels counter intuitive after all the games I played where Wounds are bad, hah!
Sanctioned Psyker Melee Nuker
How do?
typical owlcat not letting you respec character when that's the most fun part of their games, i have major indecisiveness i don't want to restart everytime i wanna try a new mash up, pretty sure i spent more time thinking about what classes i wanna run than i actually spent playing bg3
I hope this is sarcasm
Homeworld and origins is like race and subrace in fantasy games. In BG3 you cant respec your race too.
Don’t such things as characters backgrounds affect your story greatly? I haven’t played it yet but if that’s the case then, interaction maybe inconsistent which disturbs role-play aspect.
Toybox is already made so you can sort of help to some degree.
Help, major newbie here, I want to play a nuker, caster type? What do I pick? This is completely new to me
@@kisame3520 owlcats earlier games kingmaker and wrath of righteos allowed you to respec from level zero allowing you to chance race and subrace so that argument doesnt really work.
I went forge world operative crime lord and using sniper rifles.
Sniper Rifles are my favorite ranged weapons, especially Laser ones!
I can respec out of anything but that's cause i built a save editor.
I'll provide some Build Guides to help with that!
(Me when I just try to roleplay as Commissar Cain and his faithful aide, Jurgen): heh, pew pew
Please do an assassin build I can’t any
Valeu pelo video

Hello author ans other guys! Could you please let me alme advices about melee pyro? I cant really decide about stats and world
I regret picking Operative. I wanted to play Officer
I have a very fun and quite OP Officer Build here: ua-cam.com/video/xA1VH9CzmdI/v-deo.html
Giving up your turn to give an ally an extra turn doesn't gain anything, though?
It does!
Because you can use Seize the Initiative to go first and provide a huge DPS like Argenta with an extra turn way before she'd get to act to handle enemies and start building Momentum.
This way you also give turns to a character that's fully buffed and at their peak.
I couldnt unlock him , the option never came up..! 😢 he stayed in his cage and i left the city without him ..bugs! :(
To unlock him, after speaking with him you need to talk to the Elf surgeon, with the option to request his audience (that should cost a monster part you find while fighting enemies at Arena), then you can request him to free Ulfar!
@@cRPGBro I did all that! Didn't work! :( So many bugs!
reading an awful lot of overheating issues due to the Unity engine. Anyone else have this or a solution?
got an older ti1070 card, so rather hesitant to buy this atm....
(bg3 runs fine on this btw)
I haven't tried Burst Weapons much yet, as I prefer Sniping early for more hit chance, but I know they can be quite powerful in Rogue Trader!
@@cRPGBro Did not find any meltas in act 1 but gave mc that first laser sniper and she melted everything anyways.
Are there stat requirements for gear? Want to play a 2H fighter in heavy armor but it seems like AGI scales everything better than STR
heavy armor has strength reqs
Heavy and Power Armor usually requires STR, around 45+ or so!
Any shotgun build viable? Or melee weapons much better?
as far as I played, it's good to have shotgun on argenta as secondary weapon, 'cause you cannot use bolter if the enemy is close
Also on my main I using sword and shotgun-revolwer in case I kill the enemy with charge, so i can kill another enemy. Its fun to dual-wield sword and gun
Yo Mr. BRO, how would you rank rouge trader among bg3 and pathfinder wotr?
I'm having a great time with it, but I think I prefer Wrath of the Righteous because the Mythic Paths are really fun, and you also get a lot more classes and build options.
is an Officer\sniper build viable for the main?
Yep!
Ideally with Master Tactician because you have enormous damage bonuses with it with Press the Advantage.
@@cRPGBro awesome! Thanks man!:) merry Xmas
Would be nice to see more included in the future!
Really unhappy that Origins matter so little in the game compared to archetypes. :/
Puts a massive damper on replayability.
what would be the best hoemworld for a damage melee cahracter
Death World is one of my favorites!
So, leaving BG3 behind? Well, had to happen at some point, I guess
Still planning on more builds for it, but I really wish Larian eventually adds more content especially classes, subclasses and such!
@@cRPGBro After getting all the GOTY everywhere, they kinda have to do SOMETHING
Martinez Edward Wilson Linda Taylor Laura
can i respect my companions?
Yes, but not from level 1, usually from the level they come at like in the Pathfinder games.
You always have the best guide, but this video is too long.
I'd say it's a lot easier to make more lore appropriate builds in Rogue Trader!
