- I did a live stream showcasing my project file for my FF7 Battle Theme and the libraries I used.
I focused on my two latest purchases from Spitfire Audio, the Symphonic Strings and Woodwinds, because they are both incredible game changing libraries!
Brass is my trusty Cinebrass, and Percussion is NI Action Strikes with Spitfire HZ01 Timpani. DAW is Cubase 9.
Enjoy!
"Hey Misha, what're you doin?"
"Oh, you know, just Misha stuff."
Periphery IV: The Final Fantasy?
WOW! Holy shit- probably one of the best Final Fantasy covers I've heard. You nailed the shit out of this!!
*edit* - seriously, can't stop thinking about this. I've come back to listen to this like 12 times. So good!
bro im 31 and until i was 24 i used to religiously play ff7 once a year love that fucking game man love your music and your channel keep it up
Legend. You're right, those two spitfire libraries are extraordinary and you've made outstanding use of them here. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas!
YESSS!!!! XD Final fantasy forever, man! I didnt know you liked final fantasy! mad respect! too funny cause im jammin periphery while mobbin on ffxv! Just WORKS haha loved it though. thanks for sharin this
Check out Haunted Shores' FF7 covers. Misha and Mark made them a few years ago, but they're still some of the best guitar covers of Final Fantasy music I've heard.
You instantly gave me enough goosebumps that I need to replay this epic game!!! God I hope the remake's gonna be good!!!
Took me forever to find this on my PS4 but so worth it. You did an amazing job! 10/10
Mr monsoor... I'm a huge periphery fan and this is BTFA bro. NICE BRUDA
The instruments are so damn convincing.
Can't wait for One Winged Angel! And possibly the boss theme with Mark?
Dude. Be appreciative that of what he did. I like those tracks too btw.
Daniel Marino-Austin I guess it sounded unappreciative out of context, but I was following up on my comments from the Facebook stream. Of course I love this track, it's my favorite song in the game reimagined by one of my favorite musicians!
Excellent! Can't really complain about anything. Solid, through and through. You're extremely talented. Lots of feel in this, although it is MIDI.
Soon Mishas head will be all headphones, also sounds giant love it that is a great sounding library applause
I love you Misha, thank you for being you!
SO if they re-release this game WTF is stopping them from harnessing the powers of BULB for the soundtrack? Christ, it would be so epic, a mix of symphony and modern sounds.
@@TheFrenchmanCooks yeah... He's the composer.
Man that brass sounds amazing.
Can't go wrong with Cinebrass! It admittedly sounds better in the mix than it does solo'd but that's really what matters at the end of the day haha!
This is sick af my dude
Sick! Definitely has an extra kick to it.
This is pretty sweet!
Wow. I am so excited to get this program😭
is so awesome !
awesome dude!
I think it sounds awesome with just strings
Damn, I love the set up you have for Cubase. Maybe I should upgrade from 6, finally.
i hope so much that the band will come to italy again.
I know it's only a few seconds but I thought that little interlude bit you put in the middle was awesome. When I first heard it I thought it was some little chromatic trail off to end the track (which was pretty cool in itself) but then it kind of pulls itself together harmonically and the Uematsu themes sneak in and pull it back into the main theme. I just thought it was a really cool little bit of creativity to throw in there.
Thanks dude, I just did it for fun and to give it a bit of my own spin since the rest was me trying to transcribe this to be as close to the original as possible. Managed to sneak in quick subtle references to the Bombing Mission and One Winged Angel too hehe.
Misha Mansoor yeah it was the little bombing mission reference that stood out to me. I'm listening to it now though and trying to pick out the one winged angel bit. Is it that little chromatic descending bit by the flutes? If so that is really subtle!
Misha you're the greatest! 😊
Misha, you da man!
this is so Fucking awesome
This is awesome! I'm a big fan of Final Fantasy music. Ever thought of doing a stream showing how you mix your demos or productions?
A download link would be so apreciated!
Fucking. Epic.
Hi Misha. In the next episode can you please make Kurt Angle theme? Thx!
can't believe misha hasn't played ff6... smh... the music on that game is the best game music ever made...
You could show us the gear you use to handle everything, looks like you need a lot of ram.
have you heard the Distant Worlds album Misha? should be pretty cool if you like FF & orchestra lol
Please make it downloadable!
I need to buy a bass for my own home recording and I dont know anything about bassguitars or what bass to buy. The style of music I would need it to play would be rock and modern metal (djent). The budget would be something like 500-1000$. I've been thinking about a 5-string bass.
TheJagger85 get an Ibanez sr Bass, they play great and are more comfortable for guitar players than other basses
Okay I'll do some research about them thanks for help! :)
TheJagger85 Personally I'd suggest a Schecter. Ibanez are good too like StreetBass said.
Cody Caughman Okey thanks I'll check them out too c:
I would suggest a 5 string for djent as well.
Misha how do you afford so much spitfire haha. This makes me sad
The sweet sweet income from Periphery III
Hard work, saving up, and this is my job.
Misha Mansoor respect
Andy Hargrave Music I know how... pls contact me.
I wish there were any free libraries or stuff that would be useful... the whole spitfire thing is awesome but so expensive
Haha indeed, it's just tough for free libraries to be of this caliber since these libraries are insanely expensive to make.
ElDaveOX Contact Me... I can help you out
can we have more playthrougha for p3 on periphery channels please :(
How faithful do you think the remake should be to the original's soundtrack? Do you think it should sound loud and bombastic with real strings like this or go for a different style?
Anyone know the specs on his mac to handle all those virtual instruments?
Thats a great question.
5 PS4s put together and an Xbox One as a cup holder. Kind of like Saddam Hussein was rumored with the PS3s in the 2000s.
An i7 cpu guarenteed with probably 16gb RAM. Pretty typical for any high end machine and everything else is negligible
My setup handles a similar template. It's an i7 7800 overclocked to 5 ghz on 6 cores (12 threads). 32 gb of ram running @ 4 mhz. A similar setup of instruments in a session like that takes around 22 gig even when properly purged. I use the same libraries. I dont think it will run on 16g ram and if you dont want to be constantly purging samples you might want more than 32 gb.
A mac? lol thats hilarious. He runs PC. 16gb is nowhere remotely close to his setup lol. Its at least 128GB of RAM most likely DDR4 at that To handle that many instances running VSTs and not bounced to raw audio yet (as you can see in his screen) is crazy system crunching demand... and that is insane in its own right, but on top of that he is streaming too! My guess it is some type of work station running 4 to 8 processores probably all i7 quality and at least 128gb of ram. There's a difference between a mediocre gaming rig running a mere 16gb of ram and a producer's workstation, they are not the same....
Just curious, is this like a VST plugin type deal? I'm not familiar with the program you're using, I usually use FL Studio, but it seems like Spitfire is a VST plugin that would be compatible with FL Studio?
Look into a program called Kontakt, that's what Misha is using here. It's by Native Instruments. A lot of these sample libraries don't have their own GUI, so you have to load them up into a host, which is what Kontakt is. You can then load up Kontakt in FL Studio as a plugin. It's also a great way to organize your sample libraries into one place. However, this stuff is all ridiculously expensive (both in money and resources/hd space on your computer), so keep that in mind before going in.
FF
Do you keep all of your VSTs and plugin libraries on Solid State drives these days? If yes, which drives would you recommend? I'm trying to get into writing and recording again, and was just wondering what I'd need in 2016/17.
Yup, I mention it in the video, I am streaming these libraries from SSDs using Kontakt's Memory Server. Maybe I'll do a video on how I set that up at some point! I'm partial to the Samsung Evo SSDs
Misha Mansoor that would be awesome dude, thank you. I've always been put off of trying to get into producing because of the size of these libraries, I guess I never thought external was an option up until recently when I got thunderbolt and USB 3 boards
Misha can yo do some f zero x guitar cover like this? Please? ( greetings from chile)
Are there ever going to be bounced down versions of these available?
Bounced on my boys dick to this version for hours, no need for anything else.
Yeah I'll upload that soon!
Misha, what was the reason you changed to Mac from PC? I remember once you saying you originally started making music on a PC.
For a while, Mac was killing it with their offerings and I love their OS as well as how well Cubase ran on a Mac (had a built in 32 bit wrapper, plug and play midi and the Core Audio driver seems to be stable.) The new Mac stuff seems to be aimed at consumers, not power users or professionals, C9 is 64 bit only, and now C9 for windows supports plug and play midi. I think the switch is coming.
Thank you for taking the time, that's very insightful!
This is sort of an off kilter question, but how were you able to record the audio from cubase as well as monitor? Do you have to monitor through your headphones?
I used screenflow!
Lol cheers
How can I set my mixer to be in that position in the workspace instead of have it in a separate window? I's very comfortable right there
That's a Cubase 9 feature!
Damn! I've got only Cubase 8, do you know if it's possible to upgrade from 8 to 9 without payng the entire price?
Not Misha, but yes it is. Should be around 200 CDN. There's an option on the Steinberg website. I'm partial to Cubase 9 Pro. Cubase 9 Artist has an Instrument Track limit of 32.
Misha used Omnislash! It's a Critical Hit! SKWHEEEEEWOOOOHHHHHHHHHHWHEEEEEEEEEEEE! You Won! You gained 9999999 Xp. Points! Awesome Materia gained!
Donyou think the complete albion pack its worth the price in case you want orchestral libraries for different moods and you have only basic materials ?
I'd say it's definitely worth it if you don't mind the broad brushstroke approach and don't need lots of detail/divisi in the different sections. Maybe just start with Albion ONE and see how you fare with that!
Hi Misha, how do you find the 61 key midi controller for working with Kontakt? is it limiting as opposed to 88?
It's better because I don't want my controller to have weighted keys. Weighted keys are great for piano, but can be kinda limiting for everything else. Also the 88 has a massive footprint.
6:42 pants became wet. Whoa.
Computer specs?
How long did this take you?
Ohp just hit 11:08.
Perfect example to ilustrate how the sample libraries alone, no matter how cutting edge and expensive they are, won't make your cue sound good. This sound as fake as my 20 year old Roland synthesizer. This guy is highly overrated. And ffs, stop lying to your audience, saying you learned this by ear, when you acutally got the original parts... I know because I have the same orchestral transcription here.
one wing Angel advent children style with B E A beautiful vocals please make periphery dlc
gavi chavis Periphery DLC: This Time There's More
