I've only just had internet connected in the house I just moved in to... but I've seen email notifications about the streams and I've been looking forward to catching up on them. There may be a lot of videos on UA-cam but so few of them are enjoyable to listen to. Will be keeping an eye on these for sure. Brilliant stuff! Thanks
this is the greatest thing you've ever put on your feed. Lune is a beautiful piece of music and to see how you put it together is just awesome. Thanks man ;)
Misha, you are an inspiration for many of us, aspiring or seasoned producers/writers/musicians. Keep doing your amazing job and bleassing us with your badass insights. Peace.
Wow the YT vid is so much clearer. We actually can see your beautiful face here! Thanks so much for showing us the orchestral libraries. It's been very helpful.
These videos along with all of your recording/producing tips videos are great!! I also thought it was cool that Lune happens to be one of your favorite songs off the new album, it's the song my wife and I had our first dance to at our wedding!!
Great video/stream Misha! I'm trying to get into writing orchestral music too, it would be awesome if you did a full orchestral stream/video in the future!
Amazing work as always. I have a suggestion regarding streaming and recording at the same time without eating all of your system resources. Check out OBS/OBS Studio (Open Broadcaster Software). I find your videos and streams very informative and extremely inspiring. Thank you for taking the time to do this. Cheers!
This is awesome man. I'm a big fan of using orchestral arrangements in my songs too. Would be cool to see a video on how you arrange your orchestral templates using kontakt.
Cool video Misha! Thanks for sharing. PIII is an amazing album and Lune is such a great closer. I always turn it up loud in the car and sing along like little girly man. :) Re: East West libraries in Kontakt... There was a time (before 2010 maybe?) that East West didn't have their own sample player (PLAY) and their "Symphonic Ochestra" libraries were Kontakt-based. I was lucky enough to have invested in their full orch back then, so I have the Kontakt-based stuff, and use it for various things, like percussion and woodwind section sustains & staccatos. Unfortunately their newer libraries, like Hollywood Strings, were only ever available for their PLAY sample player, and I have indeed heard from folks that run the PLAY library on Mac OS X that the performance is pretty bad. With a PC slave you can put all your samples on there (including the EW PLAY stuff if you want) and host in Vienna Ensemble Pro to enjoy a main sequence/mix rig whose memory & CPU is hardly taxed at all - at the expense of another computer and some routing/setup to do, of course. FWIW!
I like that you have a "Riff Graveyard" haha, almost every writing session of mine has a ton of riffs shoved over to the right that were ideas or potential things I was maybe going to use, but not at the particular point of the song I was currently at. Some get used some don't, but nearly everyone asks what the hell all these little clips are when they look over. Now I know I'm not alone.
Misha, I'm not sure whether you want to show how do you process things, but it's very intresting and entertaining. Especially for myself who's thinking of start to produce stuff. Lots of high quality tips - if you'll start a regular series I'll definitely shit my pants. Many djenkz!
Thanks so much Misha! I got cubase LE for free with my focusrite scarlet 2i2 and am attempting to learn how to use it but I struggle with figuring out the basics and finding the things i need... any tips or video recommendations on learning all the basics? I just cant find tutorials that are telling me what I really want to know (connecting guitars, stereo input from my amp modeler etc...) thanks so much and you have inspired me to work on my cubase skills and get Spitfire!
Man, I'm so jealous about your Kontakt library. Last week I was finally able to afford your preset pack for Superior Drummer. And that came out like 5 years ago...
Alright Misha, I cant stop watching these live streams! I have recently bought cubase, is there any chance you could do a live stream on how you get the piano into lanes and get the plugins to run that way rather that 4 or more tracks with the plug ins been open, thanks man and good luck with new album :)
Which Mac should I get if I want to use libraries like the Albion One? My PC can't keep up so I decided that I will buy a Mac that I will use only for music production. Is my only choice the most expensive one or can I do this type of stuff that Misha is doing here with a more affordable one?
Is the key to being able to play your midi controller with no latency without using Delay Compensation a combination of your interface and streaming off SSDs?
You should get the newer Spitfire Studio Strings library. It is recorded in a smaller studio so they have less Reverb/Room so they are much tighter and dryer and fits metal/rock/pop MUCH better than all the other epic cinematic orchestral libraries.
Hey Misha. Would you recommend Cubase above the likes of Logic and Pro Tools? I recently bought a Scarlett Solo Studio which came with Pro Tools First so I don't have a full version of a DAW yet.
I've used Pro Tools on a PC and there is a lot of annyoingness involved with their ilok thumb drive which is used to authenticate everything before you can use anything. So any time you switch computers you're going to have problems which makes upgrading annoying as hell. I'm looking to switch to a different DAW myself as I'm just getting tired of dealing with ilok's ridiculousness...
Misha, what do you think about EW QL's Hollywood Strings? And I think Berlin Strings are one of the best string libraries ever. Do you use it :D? Greetings from Mexico :D!
What midi controller are you using? I want to get a good keyboard to start doing this with, I'm pretty tired of using the mouse to program everything lol. HELP Misha🤘🙏🖤
Hey there Misha, sorry that I missed you guys in Cape Town! Anyway, can you perhaps state some more VST's for me to look up and even download. I am looking at Spitfire Albion ONE and also Superior drummer at the moment. I really want to push my home studio and start to make great sounding tracks. Thanks again for the great video and I really happy to have found this channel
korn788 It's because there are less system configurations, all the system configurations are well known and the specs don't change that much. So it is very much easier for Avid (and others) to support Apple computers than PC's. But if you keep your PC tidy and properly indexed, you shouldn't have any problems. They used to have a lot more issues with crashing when doing audio back in the day.
Total noob question, but how do you program the individual instruments? I'm assuming you select the midi channel within the plugin, but I'm wondering if theres more to it, superb video by the way!
The EWQL stuff uses its own engine, but I have heard from a number of people it's pretty unstable on mac. I'm quite happy with Kontakt honestly, and there are a lot of libraries that use the free version of Kontakt, so you don't even need to buy it to get those particular libraries to work.
Misha Mansoor Oh hell, well that changes everything. I'll look into what I can buy for the free Kontakt plugin then. Thanks for the heads up, Misha. Also I've been using the Bulb Zilla pack lately and it owns bones, nice work from you and Mikko on that one.
Do/did you guys (Periph) use Cubase for your official PIII recording and programming?? That and, let's say you record a track using multiple DAWs, is it possible to tie them all in for the final product?
Since I oversee the writing process, we work in Cubase. Nolly oversees the tracking and mixing, so that is done in Logic. Spencer actually handles all of his vocal recording and production, and he uses Pro Tools, so we end up using all 3 major DAWs on a Periphery record. Though it is all mixed in Logic by Nolly.
Oh ok, gotcha. Cool, thanks-I'll probably need to do some research on that for future reference. I thought your Deus Ex track was incredible btw. Did you apply for that or submit a demo to the games' music directors? or...? I've been working on some similar material for video games and movie, and I would love to move forward with it!
Thanks dude! The Deus Ex track was honestly just a lucky break, I have a friend who works for Square Enix and I guess they were looking for something a little heavier for the credits, so he hit me up and asked me if I was interested.
Hey Misha, who did you go to in order to get the real string layers? Im curious if you guys set up those sessions yourself? or did you know musicians personally who came in to record those real layers? haha like did you just hit up string players and was like"yo.. we need a violin.. you wanna be on a record?" Thanks!
Please make more of these videos in the future. Very informative and high quality.
That's the plan! These are honestly really fun to do!
Thanks
i know it is pretty randomly asking but does anybody know of a good place to watch new movies online?
@Crosby Kabir Try FlixZone. Just google for it =)
@Ryan Ernesto yea, I've been using FlixZone for years myself =)
The orchestral stuff really added a lot to PIII imo, love these vids
So youre the one that made periphery 3 SO badass with the orchestral backgrounds!
this is the greatest thing you've ever put on your feed. Lune is a beautiful piece of music and to see how you put it together is just awesome. Thanks man ;)
The orchestral parts of the album are amazing. Not forced at all. Totally fit and are really interesting seg-ways into the next song. LOVE THEM!
Thanks Misha. Your way of thinking is truly inspiring. Thank you for this!
When you hear those guide drum tracks I appreaciate how much flavour Matt Halpern adds in his playing!
Misha, you are an inspiration for many of us, aspiring or seasoned producers/writers/musicians. Keep doing your amazing job and bleassing us with your badass insights. Peace.
This was INSANELY helpful. It is awesome to have a musician "cross-talk" the theory and nomenclature in these libraries.
Wow the YT vid is so much clearer. We actually can see your beautiful face here! Thanks so much for showing us the orchestral libraries. It's been very helpful.
These are incredibly useful. Thanks, Misha!
Everything just sounds so beautiful
Great video and content!! Lune is an incredible piece of music
These videos along with all of your recording/producing tips videos are great!! I also thought it was cool that Lune happens to be one of your favorite songs off the new album, it's the song my wife and I had our first dance to at our wedding!!
How was dancing in 7/4? lol
Actually curious tho
Your "demo" is literally better than anything I've ever attempted to record/mix. Super impressive song writing!
Love it. Thanks for sharing.
This was awesome! Thanks a lot!
misha, thanks for sharing! !! I was searching for some like this.
This is awesome, it's where I want to go musically too... Thanks Misha! :D
Yes, please do another stream with a full orchestra! Would love to see that!
So awesome!
Awesome!Looking forward to see you guys in Hongkong!
Great video/stream Misha! I'm trying to get into writing orchestral music too, it would be awesome if you did a full orchestral stream/video in the future!
Love this!
youre such an inspiration man
I just got Spitfire Chamber Strings about a month ago. They are phenomenal.
u rock dude \m/...that was really helpful
When Misha’s demos sound better than a lot of major releases!
You're a freaking genius okay
Mindblowing
Amazing work as always. I have a suggestion regarding streaming and recording at the same time without eating all of your system resources. Check out OBS/OBS Studio (Open Broadcaster Software). I find your videos and streams very informative and extremely inspiring. Thank you for taking the time to do this. Cheers!
Id love if you uploaded that whole raw track! be awesome to hear that in itself!
36:48 Senpai noticed me! Hahaha!
Jokes aside, as I said, that was a good and interesting streaming Misha. Keep on rocking as usual mate!
This is awesome man. I'm a big fan of using orchestral arrangements in my songs too. Would be cool to see a video on how you arrange your orchestral templates using kontakt.
Thanks for great vid!
Misha, pls, make some kind of ambient\drone programming tips for metal
Cool video Misha! Thanks for sharing. PIII is an amazing album and Lune is such a great closer. I always turn it up loud in the car and sing along like little girly man. :)

Making an instrumental version of this album with an emphasis on these orchestric arrangements would be legendary!
I like that you have a "Riff Graveyard" haha, almost every writing session of mine has a ton of riffs shoved over to the right that were ideas or potential things I was maybe going to use, but not at the particular point of the song I was currently at. Many djenkz!
The tonal quality is amazing
I'd be super grateful for a video on general mixing and gain staging.
GIVE US PERIPHERY 3 INSTRUMENTAL VERSION!!!! haha
This is amazin
Thanks so much Misha! Genius!
We have full East West stuff at my school on Mac Pro's and it sounds amazing, and Vienna Symphonic Library too
Jesus Christ what kind of school do you go to
They have Vienna? I'll be robbing your school soon ty
BigFatCock Michigan Tech!
Those horns sound sick
Yeah the Spitfire Horns are pretty damn incredible!
awesome video. i missed it live. will you do more videos like this?
so seemingly me and Misha have exactly the same style of writing (orchestral) music!
I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to play those trumpet parts. I'm gonna go hit my friend up and we're gonna figure this out!!!
Native Instruments = OP VST's
Man, I'm so jealous about your Kontakt library. Last week I was finally able to afford your preset pack for Superior Drummer. And that came out like 5 years ago...
I can hear your Martin O'Donnell influence in this song!
the new album should be a soundtrack for the new final fantasy games!! so beatiful
Alright Misha, I cant stop watching these live streams! I'm getting major Spirited Away vibes
Sounds great on my end
In Lune and other of your stuff, how did you get your DAW's metronome to do the 7/8 + 8/8 transitions
In Reaper at least it's very easy to set a tempo marker and change the meter from there.
Hope they release an instrumental of P3!
Your neighbours must be proud :D
Hey ! Thanks for the vid. What is the drum plugin you are using in that video ? thanks !
The chord progressions :))
does anyone here know where I can find info on how misha runs his streams? would LOVE to know!!!
Awesome vid Misha! Any chance you could cover some of the electronic elements and glitch type effects you used on P1 & P2?
this^^
Didn't Jake do all that
GuitarKid218 yeah
i climax everytime i hear that climax
Do you think that you'll ever do a livestream on how you were using the hardware synths to help match with the guitar parts for Periphery III?
I need this.
Can you release just the orchestral version of Lune? It's honestly amazing just by itself
That last string melody of the song has really reminded me 'Postcard' by Steven Wilson.
Hmm, I'm not familiar with that, but I do love Steven Wilson's work, what album is that off of?
'Grace for Drowning', the second one, '11. It's also appeared on the latest SW's compilation - 'Transience'.
Which Mac should I get if I want to use libraries like the Albion One? My PC can't keep up so I decided that I will buy a Mac that I will use only for music production. Is my only choice the most expensive one or can I do this type of stuff that Misha is doing here with a more affordable one?

15:38 sounds like dredg
Mike G look what I have founddddddd a seashell in a sea of shells
Hey Misha, how do you pan the orchestral stuff with the guitars, basses, drums?
Hey Misha. Would you recommend Cubase above the likes of Logic and Pro Tools? I recently bought a Scarlett Solo Studio which came with Pro Tools First so I don't have a full version of a DAW yet.

And I think Berlin Strings are one of the best string libraries ever. Do you use it :D?
Greetings from Mexico :D!
What's the best computer for djent music?
Hey misha just wondering, do these libraries work in the free version of kontakt?
Yes
Anyone know where to find The Dark Knight stems?
how do Misha come up with these epic melodies
great video! which sample library would you consider for someone just starting out. ?
I'd definitely recommend Spitfire Albion ONE. Albion was my entry point to this stuff, and it really fueled the fire haha.
i'm sure the libraries that you have plus all the SSD's must really cost a lot haha. thanks for the reply Misha!. really inspired to check it out.
+Adieu Might be late, but check out the VSCO2 Community Edition and the Sonatina Symphony Orchestra. They're completely free!
misha do you think the strings and piano that come with cubase pro 8.5 are good?
Hmm not really haha, but I'm a bit of a snob with all the sweet dedicated libraries that I have now.
What midi controller are you using? I want to get a good keyboard to start doing this with, I'm pretty tired of using the mouse to program everything lol. HELP Misha🤘🙏🖤
Oh wow, brass that doesn't sound godawful! Very nice.
Hey there Misha, sorry that I missed you guys in Cape Town! Anyway, can you perhaps state some more VST's for me to look up and even download. Definitely check out GGD for Drums. You can get more info at www.getgooddrums.com That's what I'm using in this clip.
Any other Vst you recommend. You can literally throw out names. Thanks Misha Mansoor
How do you create the midi lanes for the piano to play multiple lines without copying it to every track?
Using Cubase's Lanes feature! Very handy!
What are the specs on your mac? I'm in the market for a new one since I'm running out of processing power pretty often lately.
don't get a mac get a pc build for you. WAY cheaper and can perform just as good or better
korn788 Mac architecture just runs audio software better.
actually macs just use workstation components but most software never benefit from it thats why you can go the cheaper route
korn788 It's because there are less system configurations, all the system configurations are well known and the specs don't change that much. So it is very much easier for Avid (and others) to support Apple computers than PC's. But if you keep your PC tidy and properly indexed, you shouldn't have any problems. 14:07 "hehe, climax"
Total noob question, but how do you program the individual instruments? I'm assuming you select the midi channel within the plugin, but I'm wondering if theres more to it, superb video by the way!
Nope that's it.
As I've heard some say, "them feels, though". Seriously, such purty melodies. Where do you stream?
I'll bet you're gonna get some Nobuo Uematsu and Motoi Sakuraba grooves emerging in the future.
I'd pay stupid money to hear an S&M Periphery concert.
what's that sound around 25:04?
Anyone got any suggestions for good orchestral plugins with a standalone GUI? For those of us who don't have Kontakt.
The EWQL stuff uses its own engine, but I have heard from a number of people it's pretty unstable on mac. I'm quite happy with Kontakt honestly, and there are a lot of libraries that use the free version of Kontakt, so you don't even need to buy it to get those particular libraries to work.

Misha, what midi controller do you use?
What MIDI keyboard are you using Misha?
Hey man, what monitor are you using here? and at what resolution?
Which library
Hey @Misha. What's the name of the strings and stuff ? I cannot see very well and I want to try/buy it.
The strings are Spitfire Chamber Strings. If you watch the video in 1440p you should be able to see every detail!
thanks :)
