    "Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.
    Many people ask me where I am from and where I film my projects. I am from Northern Ontario, Canada, and live in an area where off-grinding is easy because I have lots of land to build on and experiment with different buildings and materials. Everything I do is to try to be more self reliant, and to depend less on others. But that doesn't mean I don't like working together with other people on projects. Knowing people who have skills is part of being self reliant, and trading skills is a great way to get more things done!

      Yer agreed but you need the mist to be just off the end off the belt. Otherwise you will run into trouble with belt slip and material build up on the belt.

    That is success!!
    For what you originally wanted, to dump loads of rock and it would filter in and go onto a conveyor belt away from the crusher. That was the dream many months ago
    But as we know for Kevin it is never completed, there's always something more to build or something to add
    He doesn't know what it is until he finds it or sometimes it's one of his mad dreams and visions that send him on some wild treasure hunt for a piece of something that he can adapt
    Dreams vs reality...for Kevin there are a lot of shades of gray, but always a silver lining
    Now everything has to go mobile, with it's own dump truck, detachable bed, solar, powered, jackery integrated, homeless employment, rock depository, for food center unit.
    That's gravy
    God bless you Kevin

I'm so glad you keep the bad/screw up parts in your videos. It's always great to learn and grow from our mistakes, as well as the mistakes others, so I very much appreciate you keeping the mistakes in! Driveway looks great! I have no notes on that. I did see a comment about a misting sprayer at the end of the belt to keep dust down and that's a great idea, but it needs to be slightly off of the belt to avoid slippage of the belt on the rollers

    The third update of the rock crusher has made its capabilities stronger and demonstrated the durability of our machine.❤
    Watching its progress is like seeing children grow up little by little, and it also provides us with good suggestions for improving our machines.🤝🏻
    One suggestion is that the vibration motor in the feeding part is a bit small, resulting in insufficient vibration force. It would be better if the power of the vibration motor could be increased.

    Fun fact, propane is heavier than air. After removing the valve I turn em upside down for a day or 2 before commencing to apply fire and/or electricity to achieve modifications! Never had a problem. Also propane only explodes at a perfect ratio, may ignite at others but won't explode unless a relatively perfect ratio of 17% propane under pressure is achieved.
    Grab a double switch junction box and wire the power thru a switch to a duplex plug so you can stop and start the conveyer and shaker with 1 switch. Safety sometimes!!
    I was going to mention that on almost all of the crushers I have seen the shaker was on a jack shaft and the motor was solid mounted. You may be able to run both the shaker and the conveyor from 1 motor or like bigger ones off of the crusher motor thru jack shafts.
    I don't know why crushing rock is so satisfying, but it is!

    Mr. Googly was a definite asset when that big round spud didn’t want to take one for the team. I think he threw it back 4 times. You are a master tinkerer. I’ve been thinking about adding a vibratory feature to a large lawn roller for the last ten or fifteen years. I had already decided that if/when I build this, I’d use a shaft with off-balance weights and turn it with a belt from a gas engine. That would make it work without rattling the nuts and bolts out of the engine. I don’t think the bearings in your furnace motor would last long if you did find a way to keep it continuously running. But I love your scientific method. You have definitely identified a list of things that didn’t work. Keep on experimenting Mr. Edison! 🥸👍👀✅

    In Aus. Topsoil/spoil piles. A lot of farmers will have rock piles from there fields. And the side of the road/cuttings through hillsides.
    Now. To the concentric vibrator. Usually you need to solid mount the motor and put the concentric part on the shaker. And belt drive it. Constantly off weighting the motor usually ends up with bearings exiting the program.
    Also Mrs Kevin must be the most amazing and understanding lady to let you loose building and creating what comes into your head.

    FYI for anyone making a vibrator. The flywheel has a "offset" weight not a one-sided weight. You need to have mass on the other side. Also for a shaker deck there needs to be bearings so the force isn't translated back to the motor It is run through the bearing. You can get various size to hold shaft bearings at farm and fleet or tractor supply or home Depot... They are pretty common. Other than that awesome design just didn't think it all the way through.

    You the Man Kevin😊

  • @Xero1of1
    @Xero1of1 8 днів тому

    24:30 My thoughts here are that you may want to have the offset weight centered on the table. I noticed that someof the rocks creep upwards on the far end of the weight. Another option is to create a half-housing for your motor with some bearings... half in that it just holds the ends in place. You'll probably want to extend the shaft through the weight so you can put another bearing on the other side... leaving it hanging like that puts a lot of force on the shaft within the motor which can be bad. You want to have the least amount of undesirable force acting on the motor to increase longevity.

  • @Craneman4100w
    @Craneman4100w 8 днів тому

    Have your crusher converor feed the second conveyor and right into the truck. You could also set the second conveyor up as a stacker set to a higher elevation and if you put wheels that can be angled on it, you will be able to slew the conveyor in a big arc to stretch out the pile. You'll never get a good weld on the sheet metal the motor is made of. Make a bearing to handle the shaker and run it with a fan belt from the motor.

    You should just make a belt Tensioner/Vibrator that works off the conveyer belts motor, It'll be isolated by the rubber belt, and maybe stop your issue of destroying motors? You can make a full sized multi bearing setup too so bearings aren't a issue in the future

  • @gonnagetya1433
    @gonnagetya1433 7 днів тому

    Happy the shaker motor broke off RATHER than the 'blade' you welded to the shaft, that looked deadly if it had gone flying off. The propane tank to keep the rocks from flying up is way better than what I had suggested. Only thing missing is some grizzly bars on the end of the conveyor to 'grade' the gravel but I think that would be too much for your purposes. Was thinking you might be able to run a belt from the diesel motor up to the shaker table, so you wouldn't need an electrical connection when you are taking it to the rockpiles. Farmers might pay you to convert their rock piles into gravel for them.

  • @3sparewashers-lg3gf
    @3sparewashers-lg3gf 2 дні тому

    FWIW you can probably improve the lifespan of that vibratory motor drastically by running a belt to some pillow block bearings with a shaft with the vibratory weight.
    Unscreened fill can be easily had for free from your local DPW/Highway department or excavation companies, especially those that handle bigger jobs. They have to pay to haul fill (rock, concrete debris, asphalt chunks, etc) to the dump. It's gonna be junky material with dirt, organic matter etc but for free 99, cant go wrong

    At some point when I'm better setup to fabricate stuff I definitely need to build myself one of these. Recently got a section on my off grid property cleared so I can build and we found that the ground is extremely rocky. If I can pull out at least the smaller rocks I could make quite a lot of gravel. A load of gravel goes for around $700 per dump truck load so the machine would pay for itself in a short time.

    As a farmer, I can confirm. I would LOVE for someone to ask me to pick up rocks in the field. They have an old nickname I'm not going to repeat on UA-cam. It's not very nice. Try to go between harvest and planting so you can drive around the field. Rocks are very hard on the blades of the equipment.

      I've got a couple of good contacts for the next harvest. When I can collect rocks!

    I can see that it would be nice if you could run the conveyor and the shaker from the diesel motor instead of the electric motors.
    Maybe you could mount some pulleys to drive them on the side opposite the crusher's drive belts.
    When you mount everything on a trailer you will have a nice compact independent unit.

    As you learned, you never want to have the offset weight driven directly off the motor shaft, especially that kind of motor with brass bushing bearings. You might as well put it into a power hammer and just beat it to death. You want to drive off of a jack shaft possibly even two so that the vibrations don't make it back to the motor. Using something like a front wheel bearing and cv joint from a car whould be a good option. Just weight one side of the wheel to give you your offset weight. The wheel is big enough that you could spin it slower meanwhile being heavy enough to give a good thimping vibration that will move the load of rocks.

    Kevin I work for a company called Tennant that makes street sweepers and floor cleanerd and they use vibrators to help empty the dibri from the hoppers , the way that they work is having a weight attched evenly to one side of the motors shaft , usually about 16 to 20 oz and it allows it to vibrate evenly and with far more force . you can contact me to get the exact specs , but just looking at your design it needs close to twice the weight and welded even on one side of the shaft

    Any thought to grading the gravel and sorting it by size so you have different options for different applications? Finely crushed stone for walking paths, bigger stones for road base. Also, are you going to compact the driveway at all? Building a drag to shape, compact, and maintain your driveway seems like a project you might consider.

    Might be worth putting the eccentric weight for the vibration on a separate shaft from the motor and connect via a belt. That way you don't trash the bearings in the motor from the unbalanced weight.
