I bought a 2020 Bashan Storm in 2021, from a Powersports company's website. They didn't charge tax. The receipt was itemized. To license and title, I just had to pay the tax and fees. And just the purchase price, no tax on the shipping.
The state of Vermont makes it so much easier. Under 300cc don't need a title, and all I did was print off the receipt that was emailed to me as a bill of sale. Was super easy
I own the carbed hawk 250 and live in Tennessee where registering is super easy. I had no problems putting it together or registering it, and it was at my house in two weeks of placing the order. Been modding and riding it almost daily and I think it’s amazing.
I don't normally comment but I'm a mechanic very well know this is the best bike I've ever had I've been riding since 1981 so a couple of more bucks for the tax when a regular dirt bikers like $8,000 are you kidding me and I'm in New York and the bike is street legal come on guys
Yep! We're full of rule-gestating bureaucrats, right behind California! Hardly any problems titling a dirt-bike though...as long as you add the DOT required safety components! It's ridiculousness overflowing!
I live in Colorado and registered my hawk with no problems. Had to do a vin verification $30, got insurance $150 a year went to DMV paid the tax a registration fee $150 and got license plate that day. Could be different for other county's in Colorado but I thought it was easy. All together it was $1830 from getting the bike to getting it on the road.
Bought my hawk from same place around same time as you, mine came with a title but didn’t plate or register it but still drive it everywhere off-road and on road with no plate ever since getting it with no issues fuzz gets behind me I just give them finger and throttle as I drop a gear and disappear off-road with my helmet keeping my identity secret like Batman as I ride off
The whole DMV tax thing seems a bit odd to me, I mean why would it be up to you to determine if Amazon gave the tax to the state?? I mean when you go to a convenience store do you have to figure out if "Pepsi" gave the state the tax you paid on your beverage? If they are worried about the tax then they need to do an audit of amazon and find out if they are receiving the appropriate taxes from them.
most all motor vehicle sales in a state have to be paid by a registered tax payer in that state to be valid. The problem arises in that Amazon is a third party they are only talking taxes on the sale as it was just a regular transaction. So in all honesty Colorado likely got the tax money probably didn't go to the right place but they got it. Over all in a situation like this there is always "red tape" and bs fees so may as well just consider that part of the discount buying experiance.
@@raynetorrinThe CSC TT 250 is better in some ways. CSC pre-installs/configures all parts before shipping. The TT250 also has a counter-balancer, which lowers vibrations and also makes acceleration a tad slower. So when you receive the TT250, at least all the parts are put on tight. Then, it's up to the owner to fully maintain.
I paid $2,200 with TTL included from a reseller here in Texas and I now feel that was worth every penny vs ordering it and building it myself. I didn't have any problems at all licensing my hawk 250 xpro I took the paperwork in and $115 later I had plates and tags I had to license for off-road and on road
Not a china bike advocate but I've had this bike since 2020 and I've put 6500 miles on it. Almost all were on the muddy narrow trails of Western Montana. The bike needs occasional work but honestly it hasn't had any major issues and parts are easy to find. I do not take it easy on this bike and it always comes home completely covered in mud. I feel like it does pretty well. I have the hawk dlx fuel injected model. Registering and insuring it was easy
My state requires that the MCO be notarized by the dealer/seller or they will not process the paperwork for registration. I just wish online dealers would state somewhere on their website if they will notarize the MCO. but no one does. Surely my state cannot be the only one with this requirement.
Sorry for the late reply. However, buyer beware is not a problem. It was as easy as any other bike for me to show tax & get title/tags/insurance in California - for a TT 250 simular to the Hawk . The bike is also as reliable as I make it while I ride within its limits. To be fair CSC (california scooter company) simplified the process of getting tax/title/tags.
Thanks for this now I know what I need to do to register it, I am also in Colorado. Luckily the seller I bought from has good communication. I have already messaged them 5 times before the sale even was complete.
If you live in a big city area you can just go to a powersports place and buy one assembled or in the crate, and they take care of the title and registration. I did this and didn't have any issues at all.
I bought a truck out of state new recently (saved a TON of money) and it was equally a PITA. I already had a hard copy of the OH title in hand all other paperwork and the joke of CO DMV made me get my BRAND NEW TRUCK (F150) WEIGHED FFS. The $12 dollars it cost wasn't as big of a deal as having to make another appt (3 weeks out was the soonest) and having to buy a freakin CO temp tag to cover the time period due to THEIR ridiculous requirement. While the folks working at the CO DMV branches I have been to have very pleasant the regulations and outrageous taxes for registrations are almost comical.

True but the problem is too many people steal and try to pull shams at the DMV so they are trying to make sure things are legit but they are also looking for ways to get money out of you. I have also found that if you have someone there giving you grief over silly things that you can usually have better luck with another DMV or different employee

Great tips. TFLbike is a great addition. I would never buy a bike online w/out doing review reading. And I would not want to deal with the tax and license issues you went through. I have done used bike buys. Which is fine if you don't mind turning wrenches and replacing parts. I have done NEW buys from dealerships. And while it feels expensive(and it can be)I think you buy peace of mind with the price. And for those not willing to turn wrenches up front anymore, it is the best gamble. This Hawk has a nice graphic look to it. But outside of that, it is def. not something I would personally buy or suggest to anyone other than the brand new riders. Most seasoned riders will want something with more oomph and agility.
Nice video and breakdown on that bike. Let me get someone thoughts on this. I've never ridden a dirt bike before. I'm used to Harleys and sport bikes. I'm currently in China and wondering about electric dirt bikes or a traditional gas dirt bike. I should find some really good deals here. However, if I get a dual purpose bike I need to get the Chinese motorcycle license. I can also get a carrier , hitch it to the back of my vehicle off road with my vehicle and then do some off roading with the bike. Should I be looking more into the electric dirt bikes or the gas powered dirt bikes?
You got hosed by CO on the tax. No retailer pays tax in a manner that provides proof of which transactions are covered. Thus, the state was asking for records they know do not exist.
I'm not sure if Colorado is like Arizona but it would be easier to get a bonded title. I did this on a Pantera 125cc bike I got from Pep Boys in 2008. It cost 100 bucks and was done same day.
I get the impression these guys did zero research before the bought this bike. There is a ton of information out on these bikes over the last few years. Going through Amazon adds nothing to the purchase. I purchased a Chinese bike, from Peace Sports out of Georgia. They didn't charge tax, so you pay the tax to your local DMV. I was able to title and plate the bike in Michigan with zero issues.
State of Colorado has never helped much on titles either. They currently have dealerships putting a title on every motorcycle that runs through the shop. That includes dirt bikes and ATV’s! You can not register either one in the state. Just a way to collect more tax base. I can’t even begin to tell you some of the crazy title stories in this state. Great info for ALL! Thx guys.
Got my title as soon as I verfied the vin on my hawk and I live in Colorado. Just saying don't buy from Amazon, buy from a dealer. Bought my hawk from killer Motorsports in Texas and they send it with a certificate of origin. Then I went out and verfied the vin, went to DMV was there for like 20min and left with title and registration. Of course you are going to pay a tax on it. Colorado is going to get there's before you have fun.
@@motojohnnymoe4799 Yea, and they don't know, or don't mention, that depending on the state of purchase and the state of registration that there may be legit taxes owed in both states. It is really stuff you have to research ahead of time with an online or out of state transaction. Various states taking their share, and making it into a paperwork shuffle isn't really new news. In TFLbike's case one DMV employee likely made it harder than it really needed to be. The "printed name of seller" and "signature" was a perfect example. Why was the printed name of the legal business entity not enough with a proper authorized signature? Technically PowersportsMax did print their name, but obviously they can't legally sign "PowersportsMAX" so the sales employee signed. Perfectly reasonable until the DMV says "no registration for you!".
I live in Dallas texas....there are ton of good Yamahas and Honda motorcycles on Facebook Marketplace ....used but in excellent condition. $1800 to $3000. Already titled and running good. I don't think these motorcycles are worth the money when you consider all the issues that are involved
@@TFLbike In that case, recommend that he look at a Honda CRF450RL (2019-2020 models were called the CRF450L). It's 45 hp, 280 lbs, and still street legal should he wish to ride on the road. Maybe I'll trade him mine for the 690...
Roman is a seasoned/experienced rider. His skills/abilities far out weigh what the Hawk would provide. lol At most it is good for beginners and or a campground tag along bike.
A small dual sport is an ideal bike to learn to ride on. Get a used Japanese 4 stroke. Better in every way, and they hold their value. If you need to fix them, there are lots of cheap parts. This thing won't be running at all in a few years.
These look like the weird off-brand bikes you see in South America. I heard, though, that this in a Honda engine but haven't researched it, myself. There's a similar company in Atlanta that also sells them shipped. You can acquire perfectly good Honda dirt bikes all day for this under 2K, but a street legally titled dual sport is usually going to cost you a minimum of 3000K, used. You might find KLRs for slightly less, but they have a lot of miles. There is a way to get a dirt bike legally converted through Vermont, but that's sort of questionable, and will cost money.
yeah, I looked at these.... I watched alot of vids too. I eneded buying new, a Kawy klx 300 from a dealer. The seller seemed to step up and help. I think the problem is 80% buyer, 10% Amazon, 10% Colorado. The seller delivered the product as promised and then jumped through hoops to setup and ship out new paperwork to make the DMV happy.
MSO came in the mail within the week of the bike arriving. Brought it and amazon bill of sales to DMV, left with registration 15 min later. Live in NY.
Yes you really need to go to the DMV and find out what it take to get a title and if your state will allow these bikes on the road. I live in Texas and they won't let them on the road according to the fine print on the web site. But I will ask TLF bike, how much trouble would iy have taken to register it as a home built bike?
Seems as though the Colorado DMV put you through the ringer just to make a buck. Terrible. I'm going to buy one of those bikes. Inexpensive and fun. I'll give you the storyline from Michigan! J. Thanks for sharing.
Even an old dual sport motorcycle costs about 2.5 times what this motorcycle costs. It's something a person would have to weigh up. You would probably get much better quality with an older name brand motorcycle.
The mega retailer Amazon is not the place to go to buy a bike. TX powersports sends all the documentation 5 minutes to get my China bike titled at NC DMV.
Guys! You saved me from a ton of trouble! I was about to buy one of these Chinese bikes used from a guy. When I asked to look at paperwork literally Every. Single. Thing. In your video. I think he’d just given up. He drove 50 miles to bring it to me just for me to have to pass. I ended up giving him $50 for the effort and gave him your tips on getting it taken care of.
Ha pay tax twice? I moved back to Texas with a truck I owned for 12 years and had the title and they told me I had to pay sales tax because I did not have proof I paid taxes.
i dont blame the low reviews on powersports max.. thats ppl's ignorance not researching the chinese bike they choose before buying.. alot of ppl expect these to just be good right out the box or they just choose a junk bike to begin with

Great video! Purchase process isn’t sexy, but a huge part of the experience. Glad you covered this topic.
So the whole video is basically why you would pay a dealer destination charge. I just buy used a few years old. Fees and depreciation already gone.
Some data out there is to get people to stop buying them and get us all back to the big Japanese bikes and dealers.
That needs to be Roman's new ride. He said he wanted a smaller, lighter bike than his KTM 690...I'm sure that would be exactly what he wants
Roman say he can’t go from 70 to 7HP😉
@@TFLbike In that case, recommend that he look at a Honda CRF450RL (2019-2020 models were called the CRF450L). It's 45 hp, 280 lbs, and still street legal should he wish to ride on the road. Maybe I'll trade him mine for the 690...
Roman is a seasoned/experienced rider. His skills/abilities far out weigh what the Hawk would provide. lol At most it is good for beginners and or a campground tag along bike.
I had no problem at the dmv here in NY and it’s NY
By straight from power sports max I did and no where near the trouble you all had and no I didn't pay taxes till I tagged it in Georgia
Can this bike be modded with a pull string starter?
A small dual sport is an ideal bike to learn to ride on. Get a used Japanese 4 stroke. Better in every way, and they hold their value. If you need to fix them, there are lots of cheap parts. This thing won't be running at all in a few years.
DMV here in Colorado LOVE to find an excuse to tell you no and send you kicking rocks..
Speaking of buying bikes online, I would love to see yall review the csc sg250
If I were you, I'd keep that bike running forever.
No break in , no valve adjustment and no mention of changing the sprockets ..just get another bike if you want to go over 50🤦
These look like the weird off-brand bikes you see in South America.
It would be a Honda clone engine. The Chinese bike manufacturers clone Honda engines for which the patents have expired.
Well, hopefully Weld County will be a little less of a pain.
Sounds like co is F up and any DMV sucks because no mater what they do they still have a job
yeah, I looked at these.... I watched alot of vids too. I eneded buying new, a Kawy klx 300 from a dealer. EFI, all put together for u, more, yeah, but its all tagged titled, paid, done for u. tag is on it an title paid an sent for just go down there, get on it, ride away. so when this chinese thing implodedes, whats the warranty an where do u take it? so nahhh..
Hey I think you guys are awesome and you do a great job with your content I have however have been looking into buy 1 of the hawk 250 dlx and I have looked at Amazon and was about to seal the deal because of the ability for Amazon to finance it cuz it would be hard for me to buy much of anything if not for that fact so I watched your video about tagging the hawk and you said you were selling it I was wondering if it was still available
Hey Kase n Alex!!! Is the Mighty Hawk already done at TFL??...is Roman selling it?? Didn't get to see much of it
Thank you for the information
I'm in longmont so this video really helps.
I'm in Washington state bought the 150CC X pro storm pay for work went through like a breeze no problems piece of cake Amazon bikes well worth the money I'm 235 pounds and it puts my fat **** around with no problems I've been having a blast X pro USA has the best deals bike ship handle right to your door mine ran me $1500 for an on off road 150CC like I said no problem titling it piece of cake in Washington state hope this helps you folks out there good to go have a nice day I'm heading to the hills
The bike isn't the problem, problem is the SELLER
The seller seemed to step up and help. I think the problem is 80% buyer, 10% Amazon, 10% Colorado. The seller delivered the product as promised and then jumped through hoops to setup and ship out new paperwork to make the DMV happy.
Better sellers exist.
There's a good lesson here!
Good job of explaining the trouble a buyer can ( and will ) experience IF they buy a 'vehicle' from Amazon.
Not (and will) for all, read my experience above.
What a disappointment a big company like Amazon doesn’t seem to care what people are selling on there website
Insane considering they're facilitating the sale of motor vehicles, there should be much more oversight on their part.
Even an old dual sport motorcycle costs about 2.5 times what this motorcycle costs. It's something a person would have to weigh up. You would probably get much better quality with an older name brand motorcycle.
You'd rather have a 30 year old bike for 2k? thats a joke
You can buy it straight from powersport
The mega retailer Amazon is not the place to go to buy a bike. TX powersports sends all the documentation 5 minutes to get my China bike titled at NC DMV.
I bought my Hawk Motorcycle 2018 250 from the first owner it wasn't a dealership but I got the title am I okay
This is why the dealership charges you a three or $400 document fee
Check CSC for a similar bike that is easier to tax/title/tag/insure. No added FEES!
I am so glad I don't live in a state with all that crap to deal with.
That's it with this bike? I thought you guys were going to take it on some more adventures and see how it does?
Still got the bike? I’m in Colorado
I had same problems at DMV.
I live in Colorado too. How much trouble was it to get the mandatory insurance on the bike?
Just call the insurance company they listed it as a import motorcycle
Bought a Bashan BSR250 and paid $76 for a year in Colorado...took 10 minutes!
Buy from CSC and get a similar TT250 reliable bike that is a lot easier to tax/title/tag/insure.
You usually get what you pay for in many ways ! Lol 😂 I just bought a Kawasaki 2023 KLR S . Couldn’t be happier!
how much and where are you located
You getting rid of it I’ll take it I’ve been wanting one so bad
Might consider a Chinese motorcycle from CSC but that is it...especially after the headaches you guys went through.
Ha pay tax twice? I moved back to Texas with a truck I owned for 12 years and had the title and they told me I had to pay sales tax because I did not have proof I paid taxes.
I live in Lakewood so not far. How much to purchase it?
i dont blame the low reviews on powersports max.. thats ppl's ignorance not researching the chinese bike they choose before buying.. alot of ppl expect these to just be good right out the box or they just choose a junk bike to begin with
