Great to see you old friend! Wonderful video that covered this fantastic subject. I too love anything to do with how a movie or television show is written, shot and edited, to say nothing of the special effects and music score that accompany them. Thanks for this James and a special hello to your bride!
When do you continue the Silmarillion series. I just finished the silmarillion, it is truly a masterpiece. I really enjoyed your series and i would love to see new videos. Also glad you back!
I think depth of the behind the scenes work giving folk that extra insight pairs perfectly to the LotR books and it’s Appendicitis. Just demonstrates the faith Peter J had in production to document it from Day One when everyone else thought it a huge gamble.
For me, abandoning the Silmarillion recap worked out. While waiting, I re-read the chapters again and again so have a much better knowledge and appreciation for the narrative. Given me a solid based moving onto the rest of the legendarium. I’m currently reading Unfinished Tales and it sort of seems fitting (Tolkienesque) to leave the series incomplete.
My now adult kids grew up being read Harry Potter, and I did let them watch the movies as they came out. However I was hesitant with LOTR, my son pestered me so agreed he could try FOTR if he watched 3 hours of the making of, to ensure he understood it was not real. He dutifully watched the making of film 1, then I got a huge fail as a parent when his wee face turned to me and said “does that mean Harry Potter is not real” I felt so bad
I hope not to tell you anything new when I say you have to see the documentary Hearts of Darkness on the making of Apocalypse Now. Thanks for the new upload.
Costa Botes delivered 20 hours of material (selected from over 1000 hours), but New Line kept changing their mind on what they wanted. There are claims that some of Costa’s footage was then used by the “rival” team. All this unpleasantness led Costa to turn down working on the Hobbit movies.
Glad to see you're back!
Thanks!
This was great, thanks for talking about this
You’re welcome 🙂
I just found your channel a couple days ago and been binge watching your videos. Never thought you'd upload so soon, good to see you back at it
