I'm pretty sure he didn't realize it until he got closer. Remember, Osha and Mae seems to be one person split into two. This is thee reason why Sol mistaken Mae Osha at one point during the flash back.
I just noticed, when Qimir is talking to the Jedi his back is on Osha, he is facing them almost directly but never her, like they are on the same side. Good foreshadowing
@Nicholas_Chen_ right. I did not enjoy a lot the cast (my opinion), but the actor behind Qimir has a very good acting skill, as well as the one interpreting Sol. Osha/Mae actress would have been nice if she would not do two different characters... I feel like the difference between Mae and Osha's behavior should be greater, as each one has its own personality and follow different paths of the force. The chapter when they are childs those differences are very well shown, it should have been kept that way, in order to make Osha's path to dark side more dramatic
@@micah5918 to me, it feels like he wanted someone more malleable and not so focused solely on doing things her way/refusing to be taught because she’s so blinded by revenge. End of S1 they knew everyone's "identity" (even if Qimir's story is not completed, maybe also Osha), dressed similar. - He met face to face Yord with the lightsaber and then Jecki, he killed Jecki w/ it then, Yord without. - He said : "don't do the memory wipe thing", and then I think in the season he's the only one to use it (in the present bc Sol did it but in the past).

Or Qimir is just really good at Masking his Force Presence & Playing the fool, He comes off as Goofy & wacky but thats where the Genius move making others underestimate you so you can easily fool them 💯.
Also, if I'm understanding the timeline correctly, Sith we're not really a widely accepted or expected thing yet. The Jedi had been uncontested for so long they'd grown arrogant that all things force-related should follow their rules. That's why the idea of Jedi masters being killed by one of their own had caused such a big reaction. They never considered there could be a powerful Sith lord behind all this - just assumed it was an angry ex-padawan (or her sister) out for revenge. Minor plot holes aside, this show does a good job of setting up the early stages for the fall of the Jedi order and rise of the Galactic Empire. Politicians were starting to push back against the Jedi and that conflict would eventually pave the way for Palpatine to take power.
The writers made the Jedi downright stupid. They have a literal recording of Qimir admitting to his involvement in Torbin's murder. yet still, they let him go with a warning. The plot hinges on their incompetence, otherwise the rest of the story couldn’t happen. Qimir's "fool" act is so transparent and short-lived that there's no suspense about his dark side connections or true self. The series' direction to attempt another toxic reylo situation is painfully obvious and poorly executed
If there’s a season two they need a team of writers who can pick each other’s writing apart constructively instead of thinking the audience won’t question what’s happening/why characters will use an ability in one scene only to not in another. Makes me wonder if any of the actors tried to question their character’s decisions, too, because Sol and Qimir are intriguing but they’re overshadowed by terrible writing.

There are loads of techniques the sith use to mask their presence from Jedi. In the old eu palpatine was born naturally with this gift.
