I can't test this theory but if you preheat the boards with air or have some air over the larger area when initially on hot plate it might help prevent warping. With that end of the board being small I think it will be absorbing heat faster and expanding before the larger part hence the bend. That or maybe a cover to help more uniform distribution of heat over the top side?
Nice work. Start separating the sandwich on another spot with more thermal mass. The hole next to SIMtray for example. You will end up with a top board that isn't bent that much an it will pull itself down when soldering back together.😉

Hi jason. I was replacing home button on an iphone 6 and managed to f*cking short the pins with the backplate ( my fault not dcing the battery first) . Now i get no image and while charging the current fluctuates from .1A to .8A , any idea ? Thank you and keep up the work :)

My iPhone X stopped working all of a sudden. No warning. The phone was fine, but the next time I checked on it, then it was warm and black screen. It does not help to do a hard reset.

didn‘t you replace the bad cap? Did you just left the board w/o the cap???
I usually replace them but not in this case. It's too minuscule to risk soldering next to the PMIC. It wont make any detectable difference in how the phone runs.

Yep plastic clamps don't like heat, you could wrap the feet in aluminium kitchen foil, at least the melted plastic won't get on the pcb lol.
I wish I would have been recording when I first put the clamp on. I knew it was melting but I didn’t count on it sticking like that.
Well you have to experement to find good methods.
Have a hunt for a clamp with say teflon feet or better, they must exist :-)

Had some water damage, rear camera no has a water spot, but can live with that....

Apple: I think our iPhones are too repairable, let's sandwich the board so no one can properly separate it and fix anything. Also let's make face id brake as soon as you change the display.
Apple is trying to making it harder for independent repair shops to fix phones. Apple is trying to force their customers to deal with them only for the fix (or replacement).
If you break FaceID during a screen replacement, that's all on you.

From what I understand if the phone is in for just data recovery the repair shops don't care if something non- essential for data recovery is broken because the phone wont be used any longer. If the board is in for repair and will be used by the customer then they will take a look and see if what is broken with the shorted cap is something the customer really needs and fix it if it is essential. Sometimes fixing caps right next to the main cpu are problematic since the cpu is heat sensitive and you can kill the board pretty easly.

Why not use the thermal camera before you separate the boards in case the fault is on an outer side or did you do that already but not show it in the video?
Cause all vcc main components are inside both boards
@@froydenzi However if you watch Jasons video some of the components associated with VCC main were on the top side of the board.
There are some under the shield for acorn. I wind up floating the PCB halves to remove that shield anyway. Perhaps I could clamp it first? I did peak at it with the thermal cam before taking it apart but could not tell where the hot spot was. The odds are very low that it would be anywhere other than between the 2 halves.

In 2019 we were charging $150~$250 for most iPhone X logic board repairs. I think this one was $250 but I don't remember exactly. Now we are charging $95~$180 on this model.

when you say the vcc main shows .7 Ohms, did you know it had a short because the reading should be 0.0? so any reading that isnt 0.0 means a short?
A perfect dead short would be 0 ohms. Vdd main should be in the thousands of ohms for a normal reading. At 0.7 ohms, too much power flows. This short was even lower since some of that 0.7 ohm resistance was coming from my probes. Hope this helps! Sorry for the late response. 🙂
How removing the short and not replacing the short actually fixed it?
In this case it was a cap that was shorted together inside. Removing it allows the phone to boot and since it's such a tiny cap on a network with dozens of other caps, it wont ever be noticed. Sort of like having a couple dozen kidneys.. hehe :D
@@ststele I know it could be for power sharing etc, but surely a better value unit would have been a better fit for the customer and their rep. Do you think Apple are getting worse for cost cutting or just lax?
